Message Board News / Re: Another Round of Q&As!

I would like to ask if there is a lot of retailer support for the Joe line and if the Pursuit of Cobra figures and vehicles are going to be available to Canadians.

General Joe Talk / Well holy crap..... I can get the DTC stuff!?
« on: October 23, 2005, 02:45:17 PM »
Mike,
I'd order a few of the BATs 6-packs and HISS tanks from you, as well as some of the single packed figures. Doesn't hurt that it's in Canadian funds either. Hope you can get them in.

I'm sure US post boxes would be fine.
I sent the email to their consumer affairs department at
hasbro@custhelp.com

General Joe Talk / GI JOE 3 3/4 returns (or did it really leave?)

I contacted Habro US and asked if Canadians would be able to order these figures. They gave me a very polite 'no'. They will only ship to US addresses. Unless Habro Canada decides to do a mail order site of their own we are out of luck.
crap.

General Joe Talk / Is the Canadian Joe community dying?
« on: December 27, 2004, 11:52:27 PM »
Just curious what other Canadians think about Joes these days. Maybe it's the fact that another year has gone and very few Joes (and Joe knockoffs) have made it to Canadian toy shelves that has left me kind of disillusioned. I know that we can order online or hook up with someone in the States to pick up things for us but am I the only one who actually enjoyed walking into a store and finding something new? When I was a kid I collected the Adventure Team (waaaaaaaaaay back in the 70's) and there were tons of figures and accessory packs to be found. Even Super-Joe was easy to find after the 12" figures went the way of the dinosaur. When the 80's came and the 3 3/4" figures and vehicles came out they were everywhere. I remember the drugstore in my small hometown getting all of the figures and most of the smaller and mid-sized vehicles. Of course, with the success of the Joe figures came the various companies who made knockoff figures which sometimes were just as cool as the Joes (remember General Patch?).
These days I walk into Toys R Us and find a few leftover Corps sets which have sat in the same spot for two years and no new Joes. Actually that's not entirely true. The manager of the Toys R Us closest to me said they go in one case of the figures with Venomous Maximus for Christmas. hooray.
For some reason we are being left out of the army builder sets, the Toys R Us repaints such as the Cobra Ninjas and other six packs, almost all of the vehicles and there isn't much out there to replace it. Walmart gets a lot of Transformers and Batman figures but not much else.
After thirty-some years of collecting Joes I think I'm finally getting tired of looking anymore. Just curious if anyone else is in the same boat.

General Joe Talk / I need to change my habits.
« on: December 15, 2004, 10:59:29 PM »
Wow, can I relate.
I love to army build but can't justify the cost anymore. I've been customizing any old crappy figure I find into more Cobra Infantry or specialized Vipers. I have even turned a ton of those Corps Star Force figures into custom Clone Troopers since ten bucks per Star Wars figure limits my collecting of any kind of Imperial/Republic trooper.
Although I may hate to say it, I'm kind of glad more Joe stuff doesn't find it's way to our shelves.

Alberta / new wave with Venomous Maximus at Wal-Mart
« on: October 26, 2004, 08:40:49 PM »
Just picked up the whole kit-and-kaboodle at Wal-Mart this morning. They were all there and $9.93 each. Also, for those of you looking for the repaints of the Transformers Energon figures (with DoomLock, the repainted Cruellock), they are at Superstore.

I just heard from a friend that they watched something on the news about Toys R Us closing all of it's Canadian stores. Anyone else hear anything about this?

Alberta / New Joe vehicles at TRU
« on: August 04, 2004, 10:56:08 PM »
Just checked TRU today and they've got the Cobra Battle Hornet with the yellow Neo-Viper and that tank-thing with Backstop. Someone also cleared the TRU out of all of the Valor vs Venom figures except for the pack with Coils Crusher. Nice to see Joe stuff flying off the shelves again.

General Joe Talk / Power Team Elite in Canada
« on: August 03, 2004, 08:28:54 PM »
I'm part of the Yahoo group for the Power Team collectors and a few months ago I asked Gordon Chin, the guy who designs the Power Team Elite figures and vehicles, if he knew how hungry we were in Canada for these nifty items. He sent me an email saying that the whole line was available at Giant Tiger in Canada but, so far, that was the only place. It's great if you have a Giant Tiger in your province but not so great if you don't. The only other option I know of is a new internet store which is going to deal with Power Team Elite items exclusively. Just go to the Joecustoms board and there is a link.

I know one shouldn't complain since we are finally getting the new waves of figures - although they come and go so fast you have to be quick- but does anyone think we are actually going to get the new TRU 6-packs, comic 3-packs, single packs or any new vehicles in Canada? I have to admit that the shaky distribution of Joe products is really killing my enthusiasm for the line. While on-line stores are the logical alternative I really miss going into a store, looking through the selection and just buying what I want without having to worry about shipping, insurance, exchange rates, etc. Yes, we Canadians are getting a bit of what's out there but wouldn't it be great to have access to the whole collection? I'm curious if anyone who went to the convention asked Hasbro reps if things were going to get better for us.
