Alberta / TRU Expands their Joe inventory....
« on: July 06, 2004, 11:45:34 PM »
I picked up the movie and 3-pack for a couple of reasons. I want TRU to continue getting Joe product so purchasing a bit here and there from them will hopefully convince them to continue carrying the line. With so many of the better figures coming out as TRU exclusives it would be a shame if the Canadian retailers decided it isn't worth the trouble to export them here. As well, I do a ton of customizing so three more figures can easily be customized into something other than Duke, Snake Eyes and Cobra Commander.
I can only speak for myself but the movie was let-down. I just couldn't believe that Beachhead sounds like a fifteen year old surfer and Shipwreck, in my mind, should sound like Jack Nicholson. For all the hype at the convention last year I was disappointed when I finally saw the film.

Alberta / Still trying to find the rest of Wave 3
« on: July 04, 2004, 10:00:31 PM »
I must have got to Wal Mart ten minutes ahead of Alley Viper. I found all but the Snow Wolf/Bat pack. My personal opinion - they're ok but don't really do much for me. Perhaps a bunch of new characters instead of yet another Wild Bill might have made this a better wave. I did like Coils Crusher - more because of him being a new character than an old one in a new uniform.

I sometimes wonder if the nature of the hobby isn't changing for a lot of people. In the beginning you had basically one group of people who bought the figures and vehicles and played with them. Next came the people who stayed with the line to the end and the people who, for their own reasons, got rid of everything. Those who took advantage of all the loose figures and vehicles floating around at that time, and who wanted the line to continue anyway it could, got the whole customizing ball rolling. As time went by the whole nostalgia aspect appeared and those who got rid of everything years ago suddenly wanted everything back. Prices started to rise, GIJoe became popular again and Hasbro re-released the line. Now, with the original RAH series, the new Joe VS Cobra series, the Mastercollector offerings every year, Ebay, customizers, older collectors vs kids, MOC people vs open everything, play or display, army builders, etc., the Joe line has become a lot of different things to different people. It's probably this lack of unity which keeps Hasbro guessing what everyone wants and why not everyone is happy when something new comes out. It probably also makes people who offer Joes on the secondary market cringe with fear because what one person will pay $500 for another wouldn't even give it a second glance.
Just my two cents.

General Joe Talk / Dreadnok Rampage - more updates

I'm curious if anyone is planning on just buying six Funskool Muskrat figures, adding some cast Air Viper heads and building their own Dreadheads.

I'm glad Alleyviper reminded me I signed up! Between finishing my degree, becoming a new dad and casting a bazillion things for customizers I barely remember who I am these days.

if Giant Tiger in Edmonton carries the 3 3/4" Power Team / World Peacekeepers figures and vehicles? I contacted Gordon Chin from M&C toys and he said Giant Tiger was the main distributor in Canada. After reading about some people who can't find any of the figures or vehicles at Giant Tigers across Canada I'm wondering if I should drive to Edmonton to check it out or just ask someone already there. I've tried to get a phone number for Giant Tiger but have come up empty handed. Help!!!
