Brilliant stuff. Not into the old 12" stuff at all, but love the translation into the 3 3/4" versions. Fantastic job.

General Joe Talk / Re: G.I. Joe 2014 Convention Set: Zombie Hunters
« on: December 17, 2013, 12:30:59 PM »
i don't like zombies either (only thing i've ever really liked involving zombies was Return to Castle Wolfenstein and that was only about 20% zombies...) so i'm even less interested than usual (since i despise ME figures and only collect ARAH), the only thing is, I had decided to buy the con comics (only missing the 2008 one) and now i have to decide, do i get the 2014 one just to maintain the set or do i skip it since it's frigging zombies...?

If it's just the comic, why not? Thats the completist in me talking...
Did you know that the con comic comes out later in comic shops in a slightly different version? I believe the main difference is the actual con comic acts as a program as well. And I think the comic shop version adds a couple dossiers as well. But if you're really just interested in the comic, you can probably get your local comic shop to order it for you. I have a couple from previous years, but I haven't bothered with them in a couple years. They don't fit the Marvel continuity, so I don't really care for them.

Well, I'm not big on fan club stuff mainly because it is always insanely expensive and often out of reach for the average collector, which is antithetical to what a collectors club should be. Mind you, I am very happy to have my Oktober Guard set from a couple years ago. The collectors club is such a double edged sword. Anyway, I say this merely to explain why the zombies make me happy. It's because I hate zombies! :) Never liked them, never will. So the fact that this set is zombies makes me happy because it means I won't have any interest whatsoever in trying to track anything down! So this just means I am not tempted to spend crazy $$, which is good.

I suppose it fits right in with various other outlandish stuff in GI Joe, like Cobra La, Serpentor, ninja BATS, etc. so it fits in the big scheme of things I suppose. But it's just not for me.

As for the 50th, well, I do think that it makes more sense for the 12" stuff to have the direct tie in to that, since ARAH didn't come until 1982. Sounds like the club has that covered particularly by including the 3 3/4 Colton as a nod to the modern era. Funny thing is, I have zero 12" era stuff and really zero interest in it other than as a historical connection to the 1982 line, but the 12" con set might be more appealing to me than the 3 3/4" con set at this point! Ironic.

Perhaps Hasbro proper will have something a little more directly tied in with the 50th with the 3 3/4 line in 2014, and maybe the club couldn't tread on that territory. Perhaps we'll find out in February. Just a thought.

Yearly CanJoeCon Discussion / Re: 2014 Canadian Joe Convention

Can we lobby for guests? :) For example I would love to see an artist from the original Marvel run, like Rod Whigham, Ron Wagner, Herb Trimpe, or Mike Zeck. Has a Marvel Joe artist been to a CanJoeCon before?

General Joe Talk / Re: AFA Grading, love it or hate it. ?
« on: October 16, 2013, 04:20:53 PM »
AFA, one of the big debates that seems to spark rage! Just like the loose vs carded collecting debate. :)

I don't own a single graded item in my collection. Having said that, I totally see the merit in the service. But with that comes the exploitation and the twisting of it into something it really wasn't meant to be. At least in my opinion. Obviously it's a business, and that is a primary purpose of the company. But the niche it filled that I could see myself using it for is for actually verifying the authenticity of something. For example, if I wanted to buy a vinyl caped Jawa, or a straight arm snake eyes. In either of these cases I might not be confident enough in my knowledge of the item to truly authenticate it. Sure I can read online about all the things to look out for, but how many vinyl caped Jawas have I held in my hand in my lifetime? Maybe two. Therefore, as an insurance policy of sorts, I might look to AFA to help. So it totally makes sense to pay a premium for AFA graded items because you're paying for that authentication service and that peace of mind.

Perhaps this is the world we live in though, where there are a lot of collectors lacking confidence in authenticity. This is understandable when you're buying online. How can you really authenticate an item over the internet? So there is enough demand from folks wanting authenticity, and I guess they're willing to pay that much of a premium for that peace of mind. I'm not, but that's what the market it. What I don't understand is the people who buy things just for the sake of it being AFA graded. If you have the knowledge and ability to know if something is legit, the service is essentially useless. Which is also why, for the most part, grading modern items baffles me. Completely pointless.

Anyway, I think AFA has merit, but unfortunately the market has pushed it into something a bit absurd.

They had a bunch of transformers, but I don't follow them anymore, so no idea what they were (movie, cartoon etc.) Might have been a bunch of a few figures, which seems to be the case for many of their action figure related items. Tonnes of a given case assortment.

Star Wars all they had was a clone wars alien guy with a funky looking speeder bike (not a collector of the CW stuff, so I don't know his name). It was from the deluxe line and it looked like about 10 pegs of that one guy. He was $10 I think. That was it that I noticed for SW.

They had some 6" DC figures, (not sure who or how much, I have zero knowledge of these guys) in yellow packaging.
They had a 6" batman and bane, $10 each, and a tonne of the little batman movie figures with the 5 points of articulation. Batman in a variety of colours and bane, $3 each.

Hope that helps.

Nothin GI Joe there this time round. A couple battleship and transformers kreo sets, but nothing of interest to me.

Along with a couple books for my daughter, I did pick up a random hot wheels car. They had a WALL full of the Atari 2600 themed hot wheels cars.  :o Never heard of these before. 5 of them were themed around individual games and then one (a GMC Motorhome) themed around the console itself! Black with wood paneled sides! Hilarious! For 3 bucks, I had to buy that one. They had tonnes of the 5 game themed ones, and I grabbed the only console themed one. It was stapled together so that's probably why it was still there. So it seems to be the popular one.

Anyway, if you're going there looking for Joe stuff, forget it.

Ontario / Re: GI JOE KREON Wave 2 at TRU!!!
« on: September 26, 2013, 03:26:21 PM »
Local TRU in Markham had 5 cases of kreons wave 2 today. 3 in the kreo/lego section and 2 with the regular joe stuff. Picked up a set plus a couple extra BATS and Eels. Lovin the little Kreons.

Also, noticed today at Maple Walmart the Halo Mega Block Battlescape III sets are down to $10. Not a bad display platform for some Joes, especially for $10. One of the nice things about building sets, you can use other random sets to build stuff for your Joes.

Joe Kreos are now 50% off for the $25+ sets. Good time to get the big ones!

No sign of the wave 2 blind bags.

All Across Canada / Re: Preorders for Wave 3.5 and 4 at Legends
« on: September 07, 2013, 11:17:46 PM »
Most specialty stores get the US cards, it's only the chain stores that usually get the bi-lingual stuff.
Legends regularly carries the Canadian carded figures when available. So far there's been no evidence of these final waves on multilingual packaging, and the fact that the ones I got from Legends are US just indicates there's still no evidence of multilingual packaging.

I'd be thrilled if they show up at regular retail, as I'd like another Kwinn and a blind master and dark ninja. I'm just not holding my breath.
