A friend told me the eaglehawk is now in the TRU system. Hopefully they will show up before x-mas.

All Across Canada / Re: Preorders for Wave 3.5 and 4 at Legends
« on: September 07, 2013, 12:06:42 PM »
I don't think waves 3.5 and beyond will show up at regular retail unless they bring in US packaged stuff. They did that for a few SW waves. The case from legends was on US cards.

And a friend told me the eaglehawk is now showing in the TRU computer. No numbers, but it is now in the system.

General Joe Talk / Re: MOC cards poster(s)

Awesome poster. Definitely the one without the Twins. They just don't fit, both literally and thematically. I have a rule that I basically don't buy posters anymore. I have about 10 posters and art prints, and some original comic art that I need to hang and don't have the space yet, so another poster would just end up in storage. But this one is very tempting!

Well, thanks for posting! I managed to grab the only two on the shelf at a target in Oakville, one for me and one for a friend. Given the fact that these are on bilingual packaging and not showing up in TRU computer system at all (another friend confirmed this today, still not in the TRU computer), I would not be surprised if they show up at Winners in a few months. Time will tell. Winners is so hit and miss, and the good stuff usually goes so darn fast, I was happy to grab it at Target. Haven't opened it yet, but soon.

Now I just can't wait for my Kwinn figure to arrive!!

General Joe Talk / Re: Dave Dorman "American Hero" art book
« on: August 14, 2013, 11:41:24 PM »
I saw this, and I'm a fan of Dorman, but yeesh, $25 for what is really a comic book sized floppy? Card stock cover is not hardcover, so this will likely feel like a comic book. Seems more like a tease than a real book to me. This is no reflection on the content, the art looks fantastic! And it's a cool thing to put out, a glimpse behind the scenes. But, as amazing as the art is, the format and the era it covers is not that appealing to me.

But I say jump on it quick if you want it, 250 copies is not very many.

General Joe Talk / Re: Tomahawk listed on Toys R Us.com

Has there been any word confirming whether or not this is coming to Canadian retail? I don't remember hearing anything beyond speculation. Anyone know?
My source working at TRU tells me there's nothing in the computer for GIJOE.  No open/pending orders AT ALL.
That extends for the next couple of months ahead, and it's anyone's guess if the Christmas inventory will have any Joe product at all.
The best bet for Canada: Target stores.

Thanks for that update. Not good news, but I appreciate it none the less.

I'm debating on ordering one from hasbrotoyshop.com and having it sent to a friend in the US to forward it to me. It's $39.99, free shipping in the US, and then whatever the shipping would be to me. It's like $30 to ship right from Hasbro and they charge tax up front, so no chance of it slipping through customs unscathed.

Anyway, still hopeful it will come to Canada but not holding my breath!!

Well, I just made a pre-order for the wave at Legends Action Figures. They offer a discount of the tax for members of snowtroopers.ca, so my total with shipping comes to $129. Better than regular retail. At that price, I had to jump at it, even if there are a couple I don't care for. There are a few must haves and a few that don't represent my vision of classic characters, but are just solid figures with some great accessories, so this wave is worthwhile. And I won't have to try and track down the ones I REALLY want. :) Yay Kwinn! Kwinn for the winn! Yippee!

Canada Customs allows a personal exemption of about approx. $40-$50 for imported item via mail.  There is NO duty on action figures/toys.
If you have to pay a fee, its for GST/PST on the total value of the shipment including the shipping costs. The total amount shouldn't be more than about 15%, or $15 of $100 value.
Customs does not always assign this fee, and they are less likely to if the import is, say, just 2 or 3 carded figures. You are more likely to see the added fee if the items are very expensive or if its a case of figures because the oft-assumption is that the items may be for re-sale.

If you use a courier, you'll very likely get assigned brokerage fees, for the intermediary at the border who "handles" and "guarantees" the package for Customs, to allow it into the country. Usually the brokers fee doesn't even appear itself until later, when you receive the separate bill for it, but it can be reflected on the parcel when it arrives and , I believe, is calculated into the value for declaration which can bump up the amount that much more.
Actually, in addition to the HST (or appropriate tax in your province), there is a handling fee (not duty). It used to be around $5 only a few years ago, and it was $8.50 until last August, and it is now $9.95!

http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/aboutus/news/announcements/customsfee.jsf

So in Ontario, for example, on $100 you can expect to pay $13 HST plus the $9.95 handling fee. Or if you're lucky it will pass through customs. Technically anything over $20 should be stopped and taxed at customs. But in my experience they will let things through up to about $50-$60, and occasionally you can get lucky and a more expensive parcel will sneak though and you pay absolutely nothing.

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/import/postal-postale/duty-droits-eng.html

So for a case of $120 you're looking at $120US, plus shipping (say $10), plus customs and tax, (about $26) for a total of about $160. Maybe a touch more depending on exchange and what the seller charges for shipping. Not cheap.

There was a stretch when I ordered a fair bit from BBTS and at first it was maybe 50/50 on whether it would get hit with customs. But at one point, it became every single order that got hit. Meanwhile other orders from the US that were roughly the same value (couple hundred $$ per order) were still maybe 50/50. Part of it must be value, with their "bag of loot" option I was generally waiting for items to accumulate before shipping. But yeah, in my experience, when ordering from BBTS, count on getting hit with customs. And with a case of figures valued at over $100 I would expect to get hit with customs no matter what store you order from in the US.

Wrong set ;) He was referring to this one with FIREfly, not the DRAGONfly. :) And it's even more affordable at $13.

Ontario / Re: GI Joe Kre o blind bags in Ottawa!!!

Thanks for the heads up, I was able to pick up a set at my local TRU last week. Only one case, so no troop builders left after I was done. Hopefully they put more out at some point for those that missed them.

I hope they put out troop builder sets at some point, because putting troopers in the cases at the same ratio as the characters is going to make them difficult to track down. And they're so cheep to army build too.
