Title: Canadian Joe Meet 2005 - Date Decided On.
Post by: BHMike on December 01, 2004, 06:19:28 PM
It's FINALLY decided.

April 23rd, 2005 will be the next Canadian Joe Meet!
EDIT: This date confirmed after original post)

(Assuming the hall isn't already booked!)

That's only 4 months away gang, so anything you plan on making (customs, dios, etc) start doing them now.

Anyone interested in setting up a table and 'selling' at it this year, shoot me an email at www.joecanuck.com (http://www.joecanuck.com) instead.

Ever since I bought the PS2 carrying bag, my console has been around the block, then another block.... my ps2's a slut. :shifty:

edit: Since we have 4 months left, one thing we could do is collect any styro-foam boxes/containers that would be great for a Cobra Arctic Base in the Joe Meet dio-story.

Do I bring the playmobil fort or not for the dio story?

Takes after its owner, does it?

Excellent, the 26th. Right at the end of two weeks off for Spring Break, one of the perks of working at a grade school. Plus, I should be getting a lift all the way from Montreal this time, meaning I can bring a whack load of stuff. 1987 GI Joe sleeping blanket's going on a road trip!

Card Game Section: I need to talk to Raptor first and see if he wants to take this task on... basically a section to play the new card game!

If Raptor doesn't want to do it, or if he'd like to split responsibilities, I'm interested in running the card game section, or helping out with it anyway I can.

I'm all over helping you, but I haven't had time to run for diapers let alone running a card game. If we're doing a tourney, we'll need to be able to play about 4 games at a time, no more than that. I can judge if need be, but I'd also like to play. We might be better off doing casual play. Mind you I could end up doing that all day....

It is an option, Redmao. However I was planning to go down a few days early and visit Toronto. I'll have to check with my driver if she's good with the extra company.

Raptor, I thought it was just going to be casual play and tutorial. With Mike's permission, I could run a small tournament, and the game does play fast enough that it could be done in an hour if we do it bracket style, best two of out three advances. I run miniature gaming tournaments as a second job, so I am qualified and experienced with such things.

Plus I look good in a hat.

So Scramble, do with it what you wish.
It's your project now. :-)

On a side note, I'll be buying some boxes of packs for the meet......... and most likely the store and site as well. :shifty:

Yeah.......packs.
I called today. I 'should' have them by Tuesday.
I'm not going to carry any starter decks however.

Post by: Scramble on December 03, 2004, 02:08:58 PM
The Starter Set is a pretty good deal for a new player, but from a seller's point of view I don't think you should get them. A card store can, that's what they're for. You're bringing them in at the demand of people who already play, and starters aren't worth getting multiples of.

I've got to get thinking about what I'm going to do with my new assignment. :)

Just a thought, if I can make some good looking Joe Wrestlers, then we'll use the NEW Smackdown vs Raw game. If not, then it's back to the one from two years ago...... you know... the one that I used to toss Loop out of the Royal Rumble in 4 seconds with!

I'm looking forward to playing (and having my butt handed to me) the card game - I've got a bunch of but no one wants to play with me.

I bow to greater experience and to more humility. I'm happy to serve in any capacity that I can support you in this endevor. As mike eluded to, I want to help, but I just don't have the time to organize.

Seriously though, tourney or not I think it would be good to let people know this is hapening and maybe et a sign up list oin so tat people know to bring the cards.

Then I'll have to start working now on a deck to defeat and publicly humiliate you. I mean, maybe we should do a demonstration match to show the game off so that people who are interested can watch.

Yeah, that's what I meant...

Maybe I'm mistaken, but isn't gabbing about it here a way of letting people know it's going down? Sure, Mike will probably post the event on other boards but unless he plans on postering at the major comic shops in the GTA, we're already advertising.

If we're playing demo games, it's probably best that your deck show a wide range of cards rather than actually be any good. Afterall, we'll probably be explaining our boost cards and why we chose them to the on-lookers, so it wouldn't be competitive.

Then we could go all out, face to face, cheek to cheek.

If I have time I'll post them on other boards......... but ummm.... you're all pretty welcome to do so as well!!! :-)
You don't need my permission to promote this site or the Canadian Joe Meet. :-)

Post away! Just give the www.joecanuck.com (http://www.joecanuck.com) url instead of the direct one to the board.

March 26th, 2005 will be the next Canadian Joe Meet!

Well that sucks.
As I looked on a calender today, I noticed that March 26th is Easter weekend.

Obviously the date is going to have to be pushed back guys.
I'd rather not have it Easter weekend, and I'm sure many others would agree with that.

Any suggestions on a 'new' date?

Anyone opposed to APRIL 9th?

April 9th? We skipped over the rest of March completely?

To be honest, I'm glad we changed the date. I just found out the IWS' biggest show of the year is on the weekend of the 26th. I'd hate to miss it. And this is still enough heads up that I can tell work I don't need the 26th off, but the 9th instead.

But now are we absolutely positive it will be the 9th?

Yes...it's best to push it back for another a couple weeks, just for more preparation time. I'm down with April 9th.

The irony of it, I actually changed the date of my wedding to be able to attend the meet and guess what date it was changed to---the weekend of April 9th the problem is it's in Jamaica.  Oh well.  :(

Go to Jamaica man! I've done both, Jamaica for my honey moon and the Canadian Joe con and I've got to be honest, Jamaica wins. It was just so awesome there. That was the best trip I've ever taken. We were at a Sandal's resort (Ocho Rios) and man do I want to go back some day.
It's a shame that you'll miss the Joe meet, but your wedding and honey moon should come first.

Just try not to leave the resort to much because the vendors can really get to be much after a while.

I've bought from Real Boss and he seems to be trying really hard to get a Canadian foothold with the Master collector group so once again, if we have to bump back, that is fine with me. I'd like to see the Joe meet grow and if this is one of the steps we need to make to start the ball rolling on this becoming a recognized event I say we do this.
Maybe it's the Lucky Lager talking but with the comment Hasbro has made about giving Joe a real push the second half of this year maybe we can start to make a loud enough noise that hasbro canada might start to give us some attention.
So if we need to bump it again for the greater good then I say do it.

I agree, we need to pick a date and stick with it.  But I am in favour of pushing back the date, provided this doesn't screw up Scramble's plans.

Screw it.

Dealers or not, the meet is 100% taking place on Saturday April 16. Time to be decided later - most likely in the afternoon for a start.

Real Boss should be able to set up by then (assuming you're back by then), and Condor Knight shouldn't have a problem with it - Hal?

1000% this is the date. If you can't make it, then we'll see ya next time.
The group attending is small enough that I don't mind switching it - again, but no more... I shouldn't have to get stressed out over something I'm doing for fans of Joes and for fun! :-)

Here's the situation, Custo. I'm driving down with my girlfriend. We'll attend the con, and also spend some time together in Toronto. If you really can't hook up any other way of getting to the con, I think I can convince her to give you a lift. But you'd have to find ways to entertain yourself the rest of the time.

This is something I've been meaning to address.

While I have no problems with kids being there, I'd like to have no kids there that need constant attention. (ie: babies)

I'm responsible for the hall, and ultimately have to answer for anything that happens at the meet/show/con.

Not saying we have anything would happen, but on the off chance someone's kid get's knocked off a table, gets stolen, or injured, I would like to go on record saying that I would rather no kids under the age of 5 or 6 attend.

Call me a prick if you wish, but I know of at least ONE person that shops at my store that will leave his kid near the cash register at the store and 'shop' for nearly 20 mins - NEVER checking on the kid - even while he's screaming.

I'd really hate for that to happen at the meet.

I agree with you on leaving a bit early. Last time I left at like 11:00 at night and that was to late to drive home so this year I'm leaving somewhere around 8 or so I think. Depends on when things get started and all.
