Title: POC at Walmart
Post by: canprime on January 13, 2012, 12:56:02 PM
Saw this morning at Walmart (Eglinton/Pharmacy) a case of wave??  The one with Blowtorch (regular colours don't get excited), Cobra Trooper, Steel Brigade, Jungle Bat, Hawk, CC.  Not in the system so I don't know what price they were, but at least there is something.  Too bad it is such an old wave.  Oh well.

Anyone found a Skyfighter yet? Three Walmarts had nothing...

Cambridge Wal~Mart had some of the same wave.  The new layouts also showed 2 pegs of singles as well as some flex space for GI JOE (I assume move product when it hits.)

No price on the figures.

So far from what I have read it is only Square One and an unconfirmed report from another west end Walmart.

It could mean a delay it the release to other Walmarts, or as in years past with other "super" deals (Armada/Energon Omega Supreme, SW AT-TE) it may be regulated to a specific 1-2 Walmarts.

I want to know what the cost is for the figures. I'm curious to know if they are doing a clear out of stock before the movie stuff. I think with the New York Toy Fair being a month away Hasbro wants to clear out of everything.

I think the prices are $7.92....that's the price I saw them at on the pegs...but I could be wrong. I didn't bother to verify that they were actually placed on the correct pegs...with the over abundance of wave 5 that we received...there was no interest to look through them.

Confirmed this today. You are corrct sir. $7.92 per figure. I saw the pegs, but they hadn't moved out the stock yet.

arg have to have the will power not to buy more on impulse, it makes it easy though since this wave is over saturated to absurdity...Even hardcore army builders can't make a dent anymore.

I'll make a dent if they go the way of Captain America figures at Walmart.  ;)

I know I made quite a few Cap figures disappear for $2.  I'm waiting for the Thor figures to hit $2 as well.

They hit $5 at my local Walmart, but they only seem to have a couple of different Thors and Loki.

Thor is $5 at my local Walmart too.  If they were $2 maybe they'd disappear as quick as Cap did.  I still need to get a Fandral to complete my Warriors 3.

Found a single case of wave 8??? (Eglinton/Pharmacy Walmart)

The one on the new cards with Stalker, Hazard Viper, Viper, Cobra Trooper, IG and SB.  $10.77 each, and someone had already taken the Vipers and a Hazard Viper.

Forgot to add that the card was Multilingual with an English filecard like the US and a paper French/Spanish filecard inside.

The price point increase is just to stretch us out for the licensing fees with the movie figures.

I really want to support G.I. Joe at retail but I can't wait 4-6 months. Even if I did wait there's always the risk they'll never show up or barely show up. Arghhh. At least Retaliation stuff should be on time and easy to find.

Understand that if the product doesn't show up in a brick & mortar retail store, then that retailer has already made the decision to NOT support the line, because they have not placed orders for the product.
Instead ordering from a smaller retailer ( such as a comic shop or collectible store) or an on-line retailer is probably the better (and more reliable) way to actually support the toy-lines you are interested in because they actually get supplied with the goods.

My local Walmart had: Sgt. Stalker, Hazard Viper, Viper, Cobra Trooper, Iron Grenadier and Steel Brigade.

It is nice to see Stalker finally hit Canadian retail shelves.  My friend grabbed him when he saw them.  At $10.77 it was still a deal.

found them at the south oshawa walmart aswell,

Sniff, my old stomping grounds.  Instead, I have to resort to Markham area Walmarts.  I found remains of this wave at Markville Mall yesterday.

Back to writing up my Oshawa Centre assessment report, which is making me home sick.

Man some days I LOVE Walmart.

Today I went to a Walmart. They had a bunch of 30th stuff. I grabbed a couple of Vipers since I don't have any with the red trim around the arms. Then I look at the price. It's still at $7.92. I took it to a price checker and it says "see an employee". So I go to the checkout, point out the sign and I know they have a rule that says they must sell it for the shown price. Also, they will give you up to $10.00 off your first purchase. So I got 2 Vipers for $7.92 total (plus taxes). So I found my own BOGO free deal and at the old rates.  ;)

Yep, this is something that EVERYONE in Canada should be aware of, its called the Scanner Code of Practise ( SCOPe) and quite a few retailers abide by it. Its not law, but rather an agreed-to policy that many retailers have. The stores that take part show a small sign or sticker at the entrance, and the policy is basically as Morgardee has said: if the scanner and the checkout show a difference, you get the item for FREE (or a discount), up to $10 off.
http://www.competitionbureau.gc.ca/eic/site/cb-bc.nsf/eng/01262.html
There's other aspects to this, so reading up on it can be worth one's while.
Bear in mind that not all stores are signatories of this policy, and even some stores within a chain that are signatories may not play along.
If the store is a signatory and you bring it up, the manager might have to go check up on the policy before you can get the discount--which can take some time--and even then then may decline it. Again, it doesn't hurt to ask though....

Someone told me if the item is over $10, you get $10 off - had not heard that and that is not how I read the rules.

A manager at WM gave me alot of grief over this once.  They had just finished a price drop event for SW figs and went back to the regular 9.92 vs the sale price of 7.92.  I picked up Mace Windu on Vintage card and saw there were still 7.92 tags on the pegs. When the cashier was confused over my claims of the SCOPe, she called a manager over.  At first the manager just said no.  Then when I challenged her she said it didn't apply because the scan comes up as "Vintage Figure" and Mace was in the newer trilogy, not the "Vintage" one - which kind of impressed me.

I called her boss Monday - at the time only to see if I was right or wrong.  After talking it over with him he agreed with me, I told him I didn't want it but he offered me a $25 GC for my trouble.

ya its crazy,  the walmarts in durham and clarington put out the 30th stuff (one case) and they flew off the shelves.  then it looks like the ordered more joes because they were a hit and they got in wave 5 by the boat load (2 or 3 cases) and they are peg warming nicely ::)
