Yearly CanJoeCon Discussion / The MOC Version of the Figure.
« on: February 09, 2004, 10:32:54 AM »
Mike, Scramble and I where not inside when this happened.  I was looking for a Toronto road map (to find out where Elizabeth Street is in Toronto to drop off Ryan) in my car and tagged along with Scramble to check out your store from the outside.

Yearly CanJoeCon Discussion / The MOC Version of the Figure.
« on: February 09, 2004, 10:17:27 AM »
These are my views and opinions.  Thus do not jumped own anybodys throats except for mine.....................

I have kept silent of this issue until I can gether all the information regarding this.  (I was outside with Scramble and a couple of other guys at the meet when the events occurred).  I have asked certain people to what happened as I don't speculate or assume.   I have a good picture on what was said and what wasn't said.  I will keep those conclusions to myself.

This is what I propose.  Since Aire sent two people to another country (I know there visit was tainted from this incident and if it wasn't I don't buy it), I am willing to give up my custom figure to be used for a another unique carded item to be sent to the States.  After all Colin and Blake were the very first Americans to meet us Canadians.  They should get something for the efforts.  If this meet was a steping stone for something bigger in the near future, why not acknowledge this on a unique custom carded item.  I wouldn't alter the original carded item that much to make the second one.  Something that states the first Americans ever to come for such an event.  Then Pete keeps the first carded item and he could in theory bring it back every year to the meet or convention (if it gets that big).  Aire gets to use the carded item for her book (it would be great exposure for BHT). So both carded items would be unique.  Everybody wins except the first guy (but that will depend if he cared about getting the item or just wanted to contribute to the convention like my intentions when I bought some tickets, including the friendy rivarly with Ed).

After all this is a custom were are talking about.  I wasn't going to lose sleep over who got the carded item.  Honestly, I was hoping it would stay in Canada but that is my opinion.  I am a completist but this item was not supported or endorsed by Hasbro Canada.  Keeping that in mind, that carded item was a backup incase we were in the red (the hall cost was higher than expected and some people didn't show up).  As a result, it would have been sold off on ebay if the the loses were greater than first expected. So the notion of keeping the carded in Canada doesn't hold any water as I know that somebody in the US will bid for it.  If this was the case, then the Americans would have not been allowed to participate in the draw if the item was intended to stay in Canada.  Right? But when the loses were lower than first speculated, I was glad the item was NOT put on ebay as Hasbro could go after Mike or I for making a profit of their figure.  My view was that trading the carded item lost it's meaning or significance.

Like I said, worst comes to worse, I will donate my figure and time to ensure everybody is happy in the end.  This is not worth fight over.  There are more important things to worry about in the real world than this.

Peter

Spill, back to your question...  If I was you i'd sell/trade the stuff for retail value.  If you try to get like $40 worth of stuff for 1 Infantry 6pack, your no better than the scalpers out there.

But how do you know sometimes what 40 bucks worth of stuff is?  Is it based on retail or what the market is fetching on ebay (which goes up and down all the time).  Say I wanted to trade 6 Agent Faces for a Cobra 6 pack.  A one for one trade sounds fair or does it?  Do I go by the 2.99 US for 2 figures (which is 9 bucks for 6 figures) or the stupid prices I have seen on ebay for them like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... egory=2467 (six figures would cost 100 US)

Thus I really don't pay close attention to the value when trading.  If something sounds logical, I do the trade.

I especially enjoyed having the G.I. Joe cartoons on TV. Something about having the show playing in the background really helped the atmosphere. The pepperoni was delicious. The timbits were delicious.

What was the name of the guys that gave us the free pepperoni sticks.  I am craving them today.  Man, they were good.

Well I think that for our first Canadian Joe meet that was fun. Personaly I think our figures we got were nicer than the ones from Hasbro that came out last year with their G.I.Joe club. So everyone that was involved in getting this thing together, THANKS
Some of you I'll see In July at Disney world, some next year and Mike, well whenever I guess I'm in Hamilton I'll stop by to raid your $2.00 bins some more.
Anyhow, nice to put faces to the names.

My only questions why did I kep hearing "Your Morgardee? You  don't look like how I expeceted".    What was everyone expecting? Maybe I should have pulled out my old Chef Morgardee costume and floresent paint. That would have gotten me some looks on the drive into town!

Hey, I think I have a new tag to go with my name

Sorry Dave.  I though I was expecting a 6'5" chef. lol.  It was cool to met some new people, in addition to some of the people I have come across in the past. I should be in Orlando but I am trying to make this trip cheap as possible.

You never know when the shoe is on the other foot.  I just mailed off 3 bike bots to Prozac as they were not released in the States  .

What the heck is a bike bot?   :?

Have you ever seen those knock off Transformers (like a dump truck, a car with an UK flag) near or next to the actual TFs.  The same company also made replica yamaha bikes for 9.99 CAN.  They were never made available in the USA.  Brad showed me an auction where one of these bikes was going over 26 US.

Conversly, scalpers on another message board, like dorkingbay, I can't stand them and there pathetic capitalism logic.  Buying a Airbone/Tele Viper pack, putting it on ebay with a insane BIN price of over 50 bucks and calling it a service to people that can't get those packs makes me want to choke the hell of them.

..... and I thought I had high prices on some stuff!?
Mike

Mike your different.  You have a store to run and need to make a profit in the end.  But you don't wake up at 8 am in the morning waiting outside Target like Al Bundy awaiting for he cheesecake for the sole purpose to grab variants or items in demand.  Dorkingbay does.  All these jabronis  do is drive up the market value of new toys, which affects everybody.

There is nothing wrong with your collection as I was in the same boat before.  Went through the phase of upgrading my busted figures first, then, getting all the figures I wanted as a kid, then getting the all the glory years (1984-1986) and then all of them (neon and all).

Some advice if you want to get back into the swing of things.  Avoid ebay if possible for common or easy to find items. You save on shipping and currency conversion with local dealers like BHT and with the 3 major toy shows in the GTA every year.  I just use ebay for harder to find items. It's just way cheaper in the end and you don't have to worry about duty tax (unless you know the loophole that I have used for over 4 years).

I sure missed Vancouver's weather as the only snow I saw was on the mountain tops.  But this freezing rain in Southern Ontario is no good.

Cheap?  We talked about this at your house.  If I am getting something I need (and can't find in my area) and the trading partner is getting something they need (and can't find in there area either), a trade makes perfect sence.

Case in point, I had no problems in giving you the He Man snake packs for 3 future GI JOE considerations.  Carl, I will hunt down the other He Man Snake men line packs you wanted in return.

Plus if I can't do a trade or I am not looking to do a trade, I will sell the item at cost to guys that I can trust or help out. (Ed you have an email by the way).  And this goes vice versa as Prozac, Bucky and Justin Barnhill have helped me out a number of times (without the markup).  You never know when the shoe is on the other foot.  I just mailed off 3 bike bots to Prozac as they were not released in the States.  Did I charge him extra?  Not in a million years. If that was me selling the Airborne pack, it would be at cost.
