Title: S.K. Omega Official Thread
Post by: BHMike on May 01, 2010, 03:29:53 PM
Molten Monkey International Debuting New Original Toy License at Joe Con 2010

Molten Monkey International LLC is proud to announce a line of action figures, vehicles, and playsets based on characters from an all-new original story. MMI has been working with distinguished toy designers Ron Rudat and Guy Cassaday to bring action figures back to their roots. Some of their amazing designs will be on display at the Molten Monkey booth. Guy Cassaday will be in attendance at the MMI booth to sign autographs and discuss anything related to the new toy line, his history with GI Joe, and his work with Tonka. Ron Rudat will also be present at the show as a special guest of Master Collector and Joe Con 2010.

Guy Cassaday

Guy Cassaday’s extensive and diverse career in product design and illustration has contributed to some of the most significant American toy concepts in the last three decades including the redesign of the iconic Tonka Mighty Dump Truck. His career at Tonka led to the design of other construction vehicles, bringing to life his love of vehicle design. A brief stint at Playskool in Chicago led Guy to Hasbro, Inc. where he excelled as the premier GI Joe vehicle designer known for large vehicles such as the Mobile Command Center, Persuader, Sky Storm, Conquest and Rolling Thunder. In 1997, Guy launched Cassaday Design, Inc. and branched off into general consumer product design while keeping his hand in the toy industry.

Ron Rudat
Ron Rudat started working for Hasbro Toy Company in 1971 as an illustrator, eventually working his way up to Senior Designer in his 28 year tenure. Starting in 1980, Ron was responsible for figure designs of the Real American Hero toy line continuing through the 1987 assortment. In addition, he designed accessories, vehicles, weapons, and many of the logos including the infamous Cobra logo. He now runs and owns Bright Ideas! Design, Inc. doing freelance for such companies as Hasbro, Mattel, Toybiz, among others. He and his son, Tristan Rudat, have also been working on a documentary telling the story of the artists and designers responsible for bringing GIJOE to life.

Everything I have seen so far is quite impressive, and I look forward to seeing the final products and how they stucture the Omega vs Virus  conflict, but as they are going to follow the o-ring style of figures (and I honesty would not have restarted collecting had 25th been o-rings) I am more interested in the vehicles and playsets MMI has on tap.

I'm sure they'd like to get the toys into as many places as possible, so I don't think BHT will be the "Official" seller. ;-)

We'll see. I've pulled away from doing "new" stuff and mainly do vintage items now (25th joes are the exception).

I'm a little concerned about this line.

Someone made a good point on another board that while great, the line has no set release date, distributor or even any actual "product" for display.  As a collector aimed line that means more options for distribution depending on their game plan, but with fewer "kid friendly" distribution lines (TRU, Target, Walmart) it may mean significant retail pricing.

I loved the images I have seen, this line has great potential and some real toy powerhouses behind it.
I would love to see the actual product and accessories and packaging.

I still can't get over how much that base they're working on is like the old cardboard Cobra Missile HQ set given full life in plastic form.

I get the feeling that it was done partly to cater to old school ARAH fans, and partly due to some of the guys involved working on JOE before.  They probably wanted to see the old Missile Command done right.

Oh yeah, I get that feeling too.
I mean the similarities are so jarring... there's no way this wasn't done on purpose.

I like the art and concepts, but whether it translates well to their toys is another thing, I will defiantly be keeping and eye on this.

It was possible for us to take a look at their figures packagings (at the UsCon) and man I want them all.. The concept for the base was there too and it's really big! The animation was not good at all and I think that their storyline is a big meh... The best part of this toyline seems to be the vehicules designs!

It seems to me that too much artwork got released too early, or too much of a sneak preview was given away. And some time has passed without the launch of MMI's website. Personnaly I wouldn't be surprised if the people at Hasbro got a glimpse at MMI's designs and got a wake-up call that would help them reconsider a stronger ARAH involvement in the future of POC line. Perhaps we will see old characters as great as Low-Light resurface for a second first time in a brand new old school kickass format, if plans for a greater good do end up working out for the best of everyone

Perhaps the fact the ROC figure sales tanked are slowing them down.  That, and the improved POC stuff.
Title: Re: S.K. Omega Official Thread
Post by: morgardee on January 21, 2011, 01:14:38 PM
POC sales and even G.I. Joe in general wouldn't stop me personally in investing in a new toy line that is simulate to the original ARAH as long as the quality is there. The Corps figures lacked quality, and as a result I didn't pay much attention to them except for maybe the odd piece here an there.

If Omega has a solid product that in compatible with ARAH and the price point is around $5 - $8 a figure then I'm in, hands down.

Ya, probably couldnt get the investment/investors they needed, they did try hard though with all the hype they generated.  It just makes the disappointment even more hard. :(

Wouldn't it be wiser to secure the funds before creating all that hype?
It would suck that a RAH compatible line would die in the egg.

I would suspect they're dead.Haven't heard anything in forever.
Let's face it, it's tough, as we're their ideal target audience, and only a few of us are interested...and even then, only for a low price point.
I just don't think there's a sustainable business there. GI Joe has it's troubles -with waaaaay better brand recognition, a wider audience and better distribution.
Just my 2 cents.

Maybe they just tried to do too much for day 1:

They should have started small with few figs for the first year then add a little bit more every year as the cash flow allow it.

don't panic everybody. I don't think that the Monkey is dead.

My Source: http://www.trademarkia.com/corresponden ... c-1-910422 (http://www.trademarkia.com/correspondent-molten-monkey-international-llc-1-910422)

If you look at the date, this was just filed Friday, November 5, 2010. Contained in the article are the names we saw at the con. Almost 3 months ago, sure, but we have to figure that bringing a toyline through the stormy seas of trademarks and intellectual properties is slow going. Surely the state of the economy here in the US hasn't helped, though I understand that things are better to our north in Canuckland. Patience, everyone. Between this and the Thundercats, fans of 3.75 scale will have more than they can handle

The gave an interview to the folks of What's on Joe Mind.

The project is still moving forward. Apparently, they're past the sculpting stage and are into the tooling stage.
Still no ETA and they don't have anything they want to show at this stage, thus explaining why the website hasn't evolved from the "Coming Soon" page yet.

• No more cartoon project, but the comic is still a go, so is the graphic novel.
• Classic O-ring construction, no wrist or ankle articulations.
• They still have 10 figures and three vehicles scheduled for the first wave.
