General Joe Talk / Re: Saw the movie
« on: August 09, 2009, 11:22:00 AM »
Well I saw the movie and I have to say I am really disappointed.

I was one who kept an open mind beforehand, and was really hopeful after all the early fan reviews.  However, this movie was just awful.

I think the action was really well done for the most part.  The Paris scene turned out to be my favourite in the whole movie.

However, the rest was terrible.  The acting, the story, the pacing and the scenery.

I get the whole "in the near future" but the sets and bases were beyond ridiculous.

I give credit to Wayans, Miller and the actor who played SS.  Good jobs all around.  The rest including Quaid should be embarassed with how they handled the dialogue.  Granted, the dialogue was dreadful as well.

Zartan and CC seemed to be on the cusp of being great characters, but never got the chance to be fleshed out further.

I'm Canadian, and this bothered me the most....WHY WAS THE PRESIDENT OF THE USA A BRIT?????  GOOD LORD!!!  This is 2009, not 1950, you can easily find actors to play the role who either are American or can do a proper US accent.

After all this, I am still going to to and watch it again, and maybe it will improve my opinion.

General Joe Talk / Re: Zellers having a sale.
« on: August 06, 2009, 05:41:23 PM »
They just opened a giant "Super" Zellers near me today.  Great opening considering they had CAW picketing due to a strike at their distribution centre.

Anyway, the Zellers didn't have a lot, but they did have about 60 PP Conquests and TF Tiger Rats combined.

General Joe Talk / Re: Anyone going to thr Joe Con in KC?
« on: August 05, 2009, 09:23:38 PM »
Well my 95% is now 100%.  This time next week I should be about half way there.  Probably somewhere in Illinois/Indiana.  So is anyone else going or am I going to have to represent Joecanuck alone?

General Joe Talk / Re: Another Upcoming G.I. Joe Sale @ TRU
« on: August 05, 2009, 09:12:16 PM »
I'm more worried about TRU overstocking wave 1 figs.  They did a great job of clearing out early waves of Star Wars Clone Wars figs with sales.  However I worry that they would rather sit on movie stuff than clear it out for later waves if it doesn't move enough.  Or worse they over order older waves and it sits on shelves as newer stuff passes us by.

2003 Pontiac Vibe.

Great car. I love it.

It hit 299,999Km about a month ago.  It has been that ever since!!!

Who knew that a digital odometer could conk out?!

I am going to JoeCon with it in KC so I'm hoping it can survive one more road trip!

Just sitting here eating some cereal watching gi Joe on tv (teletoon retro).  So sweet!!!

I've noticed that the show was very up to date with technology and mentioned a lot of things that have come into mainstream today.  Also there were a lot of little mentions/scenarios that were more "adult" than we would see then.

I have to agree with B.  They look nice, but I will only get them for less than cost since that is where they will end up within the year.

Yearly CanJoeCon Discussion / Re: 2009 Con Sets

I think a big part of it is the fact that Comic Con just happened, and the U.S. JoeCon is about to happen.

I'm positive the demand is still there for these. It's just that people are using their money for other con items right now - and summer.

Obviously the sets are not in that big a demand, so feel free to send me your sets and I'll make sure they get a good home!!

I think that Mike is partially right.  I also think that summer time is a big lull with people spending money on vacations and upcoming bills (back to school, etc).  Also, refund cheques are long gone now so splurging on extras is on the downslide.

I would watch more closely near Christmas when someone needs a killer present for their mate/friend/whatever.

Hey all.

If anyone has boxes and plastic inserts from the Extreme Conditions or Cobra Island sets and don't want them anymore I would be willing to take them off your hands.

I am looking for people in the Toronto area who I can meet up with to avoid shipping costs, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Marc

Just thought I would ask.

I'm about 95% that I am going, so I thought I would ask and see if any of the JoeCanuckers were planning on going as well.

A few MMS will fit great with my Target HISS patrol!
For the others, i will buy them only for the figures.  I already have some vintage one.

Yeah!!!

I picked up 3 more Target HISSes at the con and each one is going to get a MMS to tow!!

I'm also loving what is going to end up as a Crimson Televiper with that Surveillence Port.

I have no doubt that TRU over ordered.  My local TRU was getting pretty bare from the sale, but I have no doubt that they will be fully restocked this weekend.
