I figured they'd be based on the movie this year, which is great since I can completely skip them. :)

Darth I can't see how you think this was the same goofy Cobra Commander, the guy was nuts.  Were you watching the same toon?  You weren't watching the old Dic series were you?  lol

Hmm, well, pretty much what Mike said. He still ended up as a raving maniac who wanted to destroy the world, and then slipped out the back door in the end. Sure he was toned down from the cartoon, but it pretty much felt like the old toon. The whole thing really felt like this was the old toon on steroids, which for me, is not really a good thing. And the killing of the characters, seemed like it was purely for shock value. DD got all kinds of flak for killing characters, and this was really no better, if not worse.

Oh well, I still enjoyed it for what it was. There were certainly some cool moments, and it was fun seeing some of the characters in animated form. But that's about it.

Thanks for the update Mike. I can totally understand the difficulty in trying to get people to appear. I'm hoping that maybe next year there could be more comic folks (artists and/or writers). I'm really not a cartoon person at all, so voice actors really don't excite me. And slughter holds absolutely zero interest for me.

But again, thanks for the info and the effort!

So have there been any more guests confirmed (comic writers, artists)? I believe you alluded to working on another guest or two, but haven't noticed any updates.

Anyone watch it last night? I watched it and it was okay. Overall it was kinda meh. Felt more like the old cartoons with more violence and mild cursing. Same over the top story line, same goofy cobra commander, though toned down a touch.
Animation was great if you like anime. I don't like anime, but thought it was pretty good, but still had some of those idiosyncrasies that are inherrent in anime which I find annoying (goofy facial expression being one of them).

Overall it was okay, but I'll stick to the comics, thanks.

General Joe Talk / Re: G.I. Joe Monopoly - Sweet!

Just noticed this:
"Control the entire G.I. Joe universe in this fantasy contest of deal making and risk taking, collecting the most iconic bases and locations from the 1980s G.I. Joe animated series." Bit of a let down, but still better than being based on the movie. Hopefully it's just a generalization and there will be some comic based stuff in there too.

Saw them at walmart in vaughan today. Talk about excess packaging. Deep box for 3 little figures.

Big pass for me as I'm skipping the movie merch entirely. Anyways, they had a good 1/2 dozen or so on the shelf there.

Message Board News / Re: Q&A With Hasbro Canada for the Convention
« on: April 09, 2009, 11:06:24 PM »
I don't know if this has been asked, but I'd like to know if the resolute wave of single figures and comic packs will be appearing at retail here in Canada. If they don't appear in the next few weeks, perhaps someone can ask that.

I know for me one of the hilites of last years con was chatting with the hasbro rep for probably 15 minutes or so. He was extremely informative and very friendly. Was able to talk to him about star wars stuff as well, which was great.

Oh and rather than asking when/if hasbro toy shop will ship to canada, maybe ask them why they don't. Not that it really matters at this point. I'm sure I asked last year, but don't remember what the rep said.

General Joe Talk / Re: Shipping Joes to USA via Canada Post...
« on: April 07, 2009, 06:11:39 PM »
That's the joys of canada post. As soon as a "package" (even an envelope) cannot squeeze through that little slot they have as a measuring tool, it becomes a parcel and they charge an arm and a leg even if it is light as a feather. I have wanted to trade figures on forums such as this, but the cost of shipping is usually more than a figure is worth making it unreasonable. Very frustrating. To send a single figure it shouldn't cost more than a couple bucks, but unfortunately it does. So no, you're not dong anything wrong.

Nevermind the TF Rattler and PP Conquest, it'd be nice to see the first-run exclusives up here.  They've had a year on shelves state-side - I say that after a year, exclusives should no longer be "exclusive" and should see a wide release.

Actually they're usually only exclusive in the US, so Target exclusives are available to Canadian retailers from day one. For example, Zellers carried some target exclusive star wars stuff a while back, and TRU even brought in target exclusive snowspeeders (target sticker and all). In this case it seems Canadian retailers up here just passed on them.
