Title: Nighthawks Newest Customs
Post by: nighthawk on August 25, 2011, 12:17:45 PM
Here's my stab at Sneak Peek.  However, I am missing his vintage green tower and black box.  If anyone's got extra of those items to trade, please PM me so I can finish off my Sneak Peek with his vintage gear.

You know, I'd buy that if it were made by Hasbro.

Very cool.

All hail the Chrome King's comments  8) !

A modest choice of parts that greatly succeed at doing the job. The color scheme is very discreet and contribute in making Sneak Peek very recognizable. One color that is missing though is the green paint aps from its 87' counterpart. But that doesn't bother me at all.

This is not underdone nor overdone, the touch is just right.

Because of the above, I also agree that this is something that Hasbro would've released.

All this figure needs now is to be fitted with its 87's Sneak Peek's "Periscope". And if you paint black to go with your custom's color scheme, that's still good.

Excellent work Nighthawk!

Thanks for the comments...now does someone have a vintage Sneak Peek periscope and radio box that they don't need? haha.

I'm not sure if it will take it or not but I'd consider giving those parts a black rit dye if you work a deal with latinjoe. Rit dye won't chip and adds to the the play factor of the toy. Keeping them green wouldn't mesh with the rest of your figure in my humble opinion.

BTW, what parts did you use?
Title: Re: Nighthawks Newest Customs
Post by: nighthawk on August 26, 2011, 12:03:05 PM
Thanks for the comments.  The parts used are:

head: ROC Aqua Viper officer
lower arms and hands: ROC Air Raid
lower legs: 25th Viper
helmet and rifle - ROC Rollbar
binoculars - comic pack Duke
rest of figure - Walmart POC Scrap Iron

I actually have a green Tunnel Rat belt so I might do something to the vest so I can attach the green belt.  Then when I get the tower, it won't look as out of place being green.

That head would make an excellent Scoop or Light foot head as well.

Thanks for sharing!

I made an Interrogator before but wasn't happy with the way the head mounted.  The head actually couldn't move and was static in one position (ie. it was actually taped on...haha)

I've since updated it and now he has full range of movement.

Here's how I did it:
I added a Star Wars ball joint to enlongate the neck joint
(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l171/wing_woo/Joe%20Customs/Picture038.jpg)

The helmet is hollowed out to fit the ball joint and excess on the rear portion was drilled out too to accomodate the tall collar on the Destro body.

And here's how it looks on him:

I never thought I'd ever do a Duke custom...other than this minor tweak to fix his arms:

However, he's kind of outdated when you compare him to the new POC stuff.  The new POC Hawk did not scream Hawk to me.  I decided to use that as a base to make a more battle ready Duke and the POC Duke head was such a nice sculpt, I felt I had to use it somewhere.  Unfortunately, the skin tone was off from the 25th one so I give you my new battlefield Duke:

From a LightFoot fan to a Sneak Peek connaisseur  ;), I totally disagree:

Lightfoot has a very very serious expression, like"please let me do my job, I know what I'm doing!". This head's face looks more like he just doesn't care about leaving a mine behind and undetected for others to step on....at least, it's the way I see it, LOL!

Modified a Night Spectre a few months ago.  Finally finished a pilot for him.  Since I used my Air Raid to make a Barrel Roll, I decided to just name this pilot Air Raid.

In his vehicle:

Here's my modern style Crosshairs.  He's not an exact reproduction of the original one.  I just used what I had available to make him and continued with my non painting upgrades.  I've seen that lots of snipers use flight suits under their ghillie suits so that's where I got the idea to use my spare Ripcord body for this.  I'm still looking for the NF version of Crosshairs webgear belt and hat if anyone's got extra.

Later on, I may change out the gun as the Crosshairs one does look kinda small.  When I get an extra POC Snow Job one, I might end up using that instead.

Later, I decided to change his belt to one that has a gun cause a sniper needs a secondary firearm.

Thanks for the comments.  I actually just updated Crosshairs.  I put his belt on the outside.  I think it holds the ghillie suit down better.

I like the new 5pack Shipwreck, I don't like his puny arms though.  I put the comic pack arms on him and made a connector (basically, one of my extra Duke hands that I don't need after doing the Rock N Roll and Clutch mods.  I cut off the hand and cut a connector piece so that there is a peg on both sides) to go between the arm and the hand so it can be connected.  The wrists still swivel as well.  I also had to trim the elbow peg as the comic pack one is larger than the 5 pack one.

The left over arms, I put on the comic pack Shipwreck.  I cut and drilled out the hands from a 21 Century figure.  I just did this just so the arms don't go to waste.

Deep Six is the comic pack Deep Six with head on a shark tattoo Shipwreck body.  The hands are from the SRO2 Deep Six.  I figured that the shark tattoo would be appropriate.

The other sailor is just a Endor Rebel trooper head on the Shipwreck body.

Leatherneck
Was sad Hasbro never released a decent Leatherneck and don't think they ever will cause the club released one, so here's my Leatherneck.

Here's Slice & Dice

I did this just cause I had the parts so I decided to just slap it together.

For the Dice gauntlets, I just scraped off the markings from Snake Eyes' armor.  Since he uses Rex's head which is scarred, the story is that he kept the scratches in the armor to remind him of why he's so bitter instead of keeping his armor clean.  The Red Fang Ninja gear has purple parts on it and that's the homage to the purple figure Hasbro gave us.

For Slice, it's just the black Storm Shadow head on a Red Ninja body.

Slice:

I had all the parts for this for about a year and since I have some time cause I'm waiting for some parts for another custom, decided to finally work on Mindbender.

All I did was modify his hands to put his vintage gauntlets on him and gave him his vintage gear.  The gun in his holster is held on by elastics (just like the way the guns are held on the CGs in the TRU 5 pack).  Doesn't need the elastic to stay in place, but I just don't want to lose the gun so I put it on.

Blizzard
I started this last year and finally I can add him to my arctic forces.

I still need help though.  I'm looking for this head: http://yojoe.com/action/05/images/shortfuze5_large.shtml

You can't see it in the pictures, but the head cracked behind his ear.  The older head is too brittle.  I'm hoping to replace it with the one in the link above cause the plastic is softer as well.  If anyone can help, please PM me.  Now onto the custom itself:

My backpack was missing the handles so I modified Fang handles onto it.  It is facing down in storage mode and when he needs to use it in sled mode, the handles are turned the other way.  Just looked weird leaving them facing up on his backpack which is why I did this.

I love your customs. Esp. the first few you showed.  Sneak Peek is more relevant than ever with his new prominence in the Hama Joe series running now.

Aren't you reading Hama's continuation in IDW?  For shame!  Talk about writing yourself out of a hole!!

Haha...well, I made Sneak Peek just cause I had the parts.  I'll be posting an update soon when I get the last part to finish him off.  I've made some changes to add some green to him so he matches his tower thing that I just aquired. :)

So, I think the cloth cape idea that Hasbro tried on CC was quite neat.  Too bad it just looked like crap on him cause the buckle part keeps sticking up.

I just got the figure in a trade and I was gonna make a generic Cobra Officer type figure like this one that I made before:

However, I kinda liked how CC looked and I just had to figure out how to make the cape look good.

Turns out that with some creative re-routing of all the belts and stuff on him, you can get a look similar to the comic cover too.

I like the battle helmet better too...plus, with the headswap, i can call this a custom now...haha.

Title: TNT
Post by: nighthawk on November 18, 2011, 04:09:19 PM
Before the club announced the TNT, I was already thinking of making one.

I wanted one but didn't want to deal with paint rub so I took some creative liberties on mine.  I didn't like Blowtorch's wrist angle and the fact that his lower legs were not the same length which is why those were the parts I switched out.  The vest and belt piece were from ROC Charbroil.

I've always loved the vintage Blowtorch, so when I had the vintage TNT, I always had him decked out in Blowtorch gear so this is him representing my vintage one.

Then I saw the club subscription one and I think that Doc backpack is a great idea so here he is representing my version of the club subscription figure.

As a kid, I liked Skystriker (the pilot) but I wish he was also released as a non-TF figure.

Well, I saw the TF Wild Bill and with the Green Lantern pilot figure, I thought I might as well cobble together a modern version of him in non-TF colors.

Head and gear: Hal Jordan
Feet - 25th grey Snake Eyes

I may change my mind and use the 30th Ace helmet with the 25th SRO Deep Six harness, but I haven't decided yet.  He does look kinda bland right now.  For now, I'll leave him as is.  Just a simple test pilot.

Title: Overkill
Post by: nighthawk on November 22, 2011, 12:52:04 PM
This custom is based on this version of Overkill: YOJOE.COM | Over Kill (http://www.yojoe.com/action/03/overkill2.shtml)

The right hand in the backpack is just for show and it doesn't actually fit back onto the figure anymore.  I screwed up when doing it so that's why it doesn't fit. If anyone has an extra Spy Troops Overkill right arm, please let me know as I need another plug to fix the mistake, and then the hand would be able to fit on his arm again so he can be like a BAT and have two hands.

Here's Cobra Commander's Elite Guards.

Just had some extra CC's so I converted them to other guys.

This was my first version using the comic pack CC.

Then I had this other CC who's colors were a perfect match for the Python CG head:

And here he is backing up Destro and CC:

I am looking for another CG belt, comic pack CC legs and the Python CG black backpack if anyone can help me out.  Thanks!

Also, Dart and Spirit:
Here's my modern take on Dart.  For those who don't remember, here's the original Dart: YOJOE.COM | Dart (http://www.yojoe.com/action/02/dart.shtml)

The skin tone mismatch is not that bad in person, but the camera flash really makes it look a lot worse than it actually is.  I just put Spirit in the pictures just for fun.

Post by: nighthawk on November 29, 2011, 12:39:53 PM
Not sure how many people remember him, but just for those who have forgotten or don't know, here's Depth Charge V1: YOJOE.COM | Depth Charge (http://www.yojoe.com/action/03/depthcharge.shtml)

He is listed as an UDT specialist.  For me, that's too limited.  I wanted him to have some land use as well.  We see enough of his face to see that he is blonde so that's why I used the DTC Lowlight head.  Here he is updated and fit for modern warfare. :)

Title: Scarlett and Covergirl
Post by: nighthawk on December 06, 2011, 12:45:23 PM
Here is my second take at the Resolute Scarlett. I found the 25th head I used last time too small.  This time I modded a single pack Lady Jaye head and put the Resolute Scarlett hair on.

Also, I felt it silly that she didn't come with a quiver with arrows so I gave her the 25th version's belt over top of the ROC one.

Since I can't afford the club subscription Cover Girl, here is Cover Girl for my collection.  I know the head skin tone doesn't 100% match the neck but the flash makes it worse.  If I ever get around to painted the flesh tone, then I will paint it to match the DTC Cover Girl head and modify that head to fit, but for now, I'm happy with this.  Also, I don't really have a need for the wrist articulation right now, so I'm leaving it as is for now.  Maybe in the future, if I find suitable hands, I might modify them to add wrist articulation.

I really like the Scarlett you did. That head helps a lot.

The Cover Girl I'm not sold on. Her head looks too big and the figure just doesn't feel right. I've never tried this but do you know if you can boil and pop JvC arms apart like you can with the 25th stuff? If so, I suggest removing the lower part of her arms for spare bare skin lower arms, then using epoxy puddy at the end of the up arms and making a small ring, to indicate where the sleeves from her coat are rolled up.  Paint the puddy he same color as the fur on inside as her coat (where the zipper should be) anf that would tie the figure together.

That's just a suggestion. Different strokes for different folks and all that.  ;)

Thanks for the comments.  Yeah, the arms can be boil and popped on hers.  I do actually plan to cut off the hands and modify it for articulated wrists when I figure out for sure which head to use.  I have to paint her neck area.  The head on there right now matches ok colour wise in person.  However, the DTC Cover Girl's skin tone is way off so I'm debating whether to paint and use that head or keep this head before I decide what hands to put on.

The only reason I made this was because I was bored and I was left with a Python CG that had no weapons belt or head.

That being said, I'm still looking for a Python CG backpack and any CG belt.  Please let me know if you can help me out with that.

Anyways, here's a LBC of just spare parts basically.  Like I said, I had the parts and I can't think of any use for it so I just cobbled it together.  Please don't flame me if it sucks...haha.  Didn't bother putting a gun in the holster cause the sword is there already and it'll get in the way of him accessing anything there.

Don't take this the wrong way, but when I saw the red helmet on the Python patrol Crimson guard torso it immediately reminded me of Ronald McDonald, and now it's stuck in my head: Ronald McDonald is a Crimson Guard!!!!!

Why did you have to do this to me Nighhawk LOL?!  ;D
