First Backstop?.... Then Bryan Adams (don't deny it!), now Platinum Blonde?

What's next Celine Dion?!........ ok... if she is next, you're banned.

I know it seems a little shocking at first, but consider that Platinum Blonde, like many Canadian Bands from the 80's (Spoons, Glass Tiger, The Box) released and sold millions of albums on vinyl and cassette, but few on CD.  The record companies made limited runs of CD's back then due to it being an unproven technology.

Next, I'm not sure where the buyer is, but if he's in the US, then this is even more rare for him, as Canadian artists received limited distribution South of the border with the exception of border towns.

Third, I am a Platinum Blonde fan who dropped $22 on their Greatest Hits CD two years ago (okay, so that's less than $56 US, but a fan will pay that much.)  Speaking of which, I just sold a collection of 15 Cure cassettes to some guy in France on e-bay for $52 US.  I still love the band, but had upgraded all the tapes to disc.

Now, let's see if Secrets of the Alibi, Snow In June or Neptune climb that high, eh Mike?

The vinyl versions of 'Scene in North America' and 'The Northen Pikes' both sell for as LOW as $67.00 each.......  I know since I keep getting outbid.

Those were the Indie albums......... and I have one of them. :-)

A while ago, I found out that Sergio Galli (PB's guitarist) lives only five minutes away from my house.  He's frequent library customer and one time my supervisor told him that she was a big fan but her car was stolen with some of her PB cds in it. Next day, he gave her copies of their albums, all signed by him, too. He's currently an architect.
Mark Holmes currently works as a dj at this club I frequent, the Mod Club in TO. Interpol is said to be one of his current favourite bands.

That's pretty kewl Loop...about two years ago PB stopped in at Y108 to do an interview with Alan Cross.  I'm pretty much a whore, so I took in my vinyl copies of Standing In The Dark and Alien Shores and got Mark to sign them.  They were playing that night at the Hardball in Milton, and I scored a couple of tickets for me and a buddy.  They band was great, although Mark was the only original member there, and they were playing as a three-piece, so there were no keyboards.  They played all the hits, which didn't sound  as dated as you might think (probably because of the lack of cheesy 80's keyboards) and the surprise during the encore was a performance of "Heaven" by the Psychadelic Furs.  Turns out that Mark Holmes wrote it....who knew?!  If you ever get the chance to catch them live, do so...and hat goes for the Pikes too!  In 1987 I saw them twice in a club in Welland and for a free show on top of Jackson Square....great live band!

Man, that was the first concert I ever went to. I even had the black T shirt with the white arms. Saw them at Super Skate Seven or was it called "The Twist" by then? Anyhow, after seeing probably a few hundred bands later I can still say I remember seeing that show.
