Yearly CanJoeCon Discussion / Next Joe Meet Date?
« on: June 14, 2004, 10:57:41 AM »
Gotta say, everything on that list sounds good to me.

This time around, instead of having a custom figure, could we have individual file cards writen up using our submitted photos (or artist renditions of those photos in classic ARAH card art style)? There would be less copyright infringement.

The Bounty Hunter Toys ad over at Joe Customs advertising the new arrival of Wave 5 is getting pretty old. Give it two months and it will seem like we got new product first.

Y`know, as high north as Pikangikum is, is it really a frigid permafrost? If they wanted cold, talk Yukon, not Ontario.

Card art`s a bit strange and inconsistant, but a lot of fun. Zarana looks cool, the Dreadheads look like Steve Austin in a hood, and Hardtop never looked so bad ass.

Actually, I really like Hardtop`s FC in general. He had about two appearances in the Marvel comic, and he was depicted as a guy that doesn`t say`Hello`when a nod will do. They`ve captured that characteristic and written up some fun details.

Quebec / There are GI Joes in Quebec!

I just got back from Carrefoure Angrignon. By some stroke of insanity, VvsV wave 2 has arrived in Quebec stores. I found them at both Wal-Mart and TRU. Looked like the full line. Hopefully they were fresh from the case and not sitting untouched for a week. Not that I bought any, but it was a thrill to see new product other than BTR for the first time since Big Ben/White Out first hit the shelves.

Hopefully this is a sign that we're getting the comic three packs.

Jeez Redmao, I never realize your avatar had an animation! Caught it out the corner of my eye and thought I`d gone mad. Damn ninjas always messing with my head.

But more on topic, I think we could start a Montreal trade group. Start a mailing list between us and share our lists of wants. Whenever we happen upon something on someone else`s list, we let them know about it.

I`m liking my idea. I`m so smart. :)

I appreciate the search, Sound Effect, but I already had all that info stamped on the back of a comic board. I didn't see Strange Adventures while I was there. I just happened to drive along Quinpool just about every day I was down there.

I did enjoy Halifax very much. It's much more casual and inviting than Montreal. I've been to a lot of "Nice to visits" but very few have been "Would like to live"s. Sadly, I don't see myself going back in the near future. My brother graduated and has moved back home, with his eye on Ontario or the states for a job.

Reorganize ourselves how? If you mean set up connections with the States as a group to make sure we all acquire our Joes at fair prices, I'm game. I was hopping for at least three Troops Builders, but am having trouble getting a single one. And I'll be damned if I don't get a gaggle of the comic three-packs.

If you mean pressuring Legends to carry more supply, I'm not really up for it. All collectors have different tastes. I'd only be interested in vintage figs at reasonable prices and new RAH style. I doubt Legends would jump at the chance to meet our individual needs, nor do I think we'd get deals as good or quality as dependable as we can get through trades and direct purchases.

And if you want to open a Joe themed store, I'd say good luck, I'll support you all I can as a customer, but I can't invest in that kind of thing right now.

So what did you mean?

General Joe Talk / Comic 3 packs

Thank you Pete! I've heard everyone talking about these but have been unable to find these picks.

There's a great mix here. That will be the definitive Stalker in my books, and having a Hawk that's faithful to his comic look is awesome. My issue is with the sizes of the Scarlett and the Baroness heads. One's too small, the other's too big.

Still, I'll be grabbing at least three of each pack.

Sadly, I visited Odysee 2000 on my last day in Halifax. I only thought of telling him to visit the board after I was back at my brother's apartment. I'll try to track down his e-mail address, though, and hook him up.

I finally found a complete Back-Stop with his elusive pistol, two of them in fact, and a complete North American release of the Pursuader at a store in Halifax by the name of Odysee 2000. He also sold me a copy of How To Draw GI Joes #1 from 1987 for a buck. I had a quick chat with the owner, who was a great guy (seems to be the trend in Halifax) and had substancial knowledge of GI Joe.

He mentioned that he once sold a 99% complete Terrordrome (missing only two gas pumps) within an hour of putting it on display for $450. I was curious if the big buyer is on this board, and if anyone in the Maritime area has ever dropped by this place. Reasonable prices on what he has, which isn't all that much but enough for a comic shop, and just a guy worth supporting.
