Title: Ah crap, I thought I did my part.
Post by: Pete The Greek on February 10, 2004, 09:55:35 PM
Well I though I cleaned out all the Big Ben/White Out packs at my local TRU for the Canadian Joe meet.  Instead I go there today (to find a Transformer Armada for an American friend) and I spot over 30 of these dusting attracting packs.  Come on.

It's the only store in Canada that sold out - so they shipped the rest there!

ok, since i'm admittedly a novice with newer Joes, I need some clarification.  I see that the Big Ben/Whiteout two pack is from 2000, and I'm led to beleive by the comments that the general consensus is that it sucks.  My question is why?  Again...new to the game, and just curious.

cheers!

Not so much that they suck.... (which they sorta do), but that seems to be ALL Canada got from that wave.... It's like Hasbro U.S. said "Send the leftovers of those two to Canada - they have snow... they'll enjoy them!".

Hasbro Canada I'm afraid isn't much brighter....

ah...and because they're a couple of years old at this point and anybody that wanted them has already picked them up, they're selling for $2.98?

I bet if they went on ebay someone would pay 5 U.S. for them...Canada is the only place you can still get them...worth a 3 dollar gamble...?

just thinking that at that price, I might actually make the jump into newer joes...pick up two, one to open and one to keep mint.  but i still prefer the joes of my youth.

You know what's interesting.... I have the worse luck.

I bought a collection of Joes today (added most online already - hint hint).
and in them was 4 Big Ben and White outs....
WTF!?!?
When we needed these last week I had none.

Anyway, I was actually going to try them out on my site.
At say...... $3 or $4 Canadian each.
I would 'assume' some Americans are still in need of them no?

There is nothing wrong with this two pack.  I actually like the figures.  But there was too many of them released up here.  I actually sold some of these figures to Americans at sale price cost just to help TRU blow them out. But another 30...forget it.

Hey now! That's my neck of the woods and while the price is listed as $7.99, if you scan them they come up at $2.98, or at least they did last time I looked. They might sell some of these if the let everybody know they were $2.98 and not $7.99.
I just don't have any more room for more of these 2 packs. If it were Walmart they would have been marked down to $1.00 by now, just like they did with their MUSCLE toys (which BTW they sold a crap load of when the price dropped to a buck a pop)

I too am stuck with a big ben / wipeout invasion at my local tru. The thing is that they're not on sale. They're still $8.99... At $3 I'd buy a few to make an arctic commando or something...

How many packs do you want?  I am in Montreal during the first week of March.

Well Pete, I'm not sure how many I want, but while you're in Montreal be sure to go to Legends on St-Hubert street. Its a cool action figure store and the owner are really nice people.

The Big Ben mold is shot. If you look at a '91 Big Ben and a '00 Big Ben, you'll notice that the detailing is a lot softer. It's been overused, and as a result, the tooling is worn out. A '91 Big Ben is a great figure. All the others? Baloney!

wasn't it reported that  no more re-issues of  BIg Ben were going to happen  a couple of years back?

With  what  Jon  said..  the  mold  was  probably used until  it  completly  wore down   into nothingnes.

at  least  the world is now safe from more of that Figure   lol

The Big Ben mold was used twice more after the 2000 version.  So I don't know if the mold is shot but the figure has run it course.

Look at the quality of those Big Bens compared to your old ones and you'll believe me that the tooling is shot. It might still function, but it won't produce quality Big Bens.

Good. Then maybe it's time to send it off to Funskool in India. I always get a kick out of those figures.

If they send it off to India, Big Ben would be released with a clock tower for a backpack lol. Poor Windmill.

Going to Funskool is the best thing that ever happened to Windmill. Sure, he's got a actual windmill for a backpack, but he's gotten more attention than he ever would have. Also, we don't have to see this mold show up in a future TRU exclusive.

As for the Big Ben/Whiteout packs. I think the real reason, they've not sold up here is not that everyone didn't buy them, it's just that there were too many to buy. If I'm not mistaken, I believe they came 4 to a case of 12. That's one friggin' third of the case. I could be wrong, so don't flame me if I am. However, that's what I recall from somewhere. So, let's say everyone picked up a whole set. There'd still be 2 extra BB/WO packs leftover for each case. Multiply that for every case TRU and Wal-Mart got and you've got a wall of BB/WO leftovers. The only reason Wal-Mart got rid of them was that they had fewer cases and that they discounted all their 2-packs for $2.00 at that time.
