Hidden Joe Gems - The Hidroelice de Emboscada
« on: June 11, 2006, 05:07:19 PM »

Since I took these pictures recently (yesterday) for the JoeIndex site, might as well share them here.   Something to spice up the board.

If you think outside the box nor are ignorant to the fact their are some really cool international pieces out there, I suggest in trying to obtain this this piece for your vehicle collection.  Yes, it's the same in terms of parts that the regular Water Mocassin uses, but the colour itself sets it apart from most international vehicles.  Unlike most international vehicles where the colour is just a shade darker, this vehicle makes a cool complement to the Hydrofoil/Moray.   This is the main reason why I wanted to get one.

Quality: In terms of plastic, it's very comparable to American version of the Water Mocassin.  Doesn't feel cheap at all.

Availability: The vehicle isn't rare and not a common piece either.  It's some where in the middle.  But I wouldn't put in the cheap category either.  If anybody wants to get one, I will let my contact know in Brazil.

And WTF is a Bat doing in this boat with Crystal Ball?

I'm surprised they never made one to match the python patrol as there was a python copperhead.  Nice item thou.

Pete's contribution (one of many and many more to come) - the Hidroelice De Emboscada. Any extra little factoids about this piece I can add?

Still need to get one of these. :(

I've finally seen one in person, and it suits Cobra better than the green one. Green just doesn't work as a cobra color. This one works a lot better.

However incomplete WM's run around $5 and krylon crimson (an almost dead on match) is another $7. I would likely go that route should I get one.

It's a great piece though - to buy or make.  Sometimes the foreign stuff just completely outclasses the domesic versions.

The vehicle first appeared in the Commandos em Acao 1990 catelog.  So it would have been released then.  It has Estrella stamped on the bottom of the vehicle with the 1984 Hasbro info.   That is all I can come with for now.

Wow Pete. That's pretty cool.

And raptor, I'm surprised you didn't suggest just dipping one in a batch of rit dype.  :shifty:

Very nice piece.  If only I hadn't just come to terms with the fact that my current space really doesn't lend itself to my owning many vehicles I'd be all over one of those.

I suppose that it would be impolitic to mention that it fits perfectly on an ikea glassed in shelf with enough room for a full load of figures AND some dio elements to give it life.

You could pretty much display a full original python patrol or the full group of the new one on it...

aw crap. Now I want to make one...

Mor - the green won't dye to crimson, it'd come out black. Plus, for obvious reasons, boats are hard to submerge in water. The krylon fusion paint bonds with plastic, so it's perfect for this sort of thing. It's the base that python viper uses for his PP vehicle customs.

Now this has me thinking with the talk of dye and vehicles....wouldn't Joecanuck or Black Ice need a vehicle down the line?   Could we get like 20 vehicles with a crappy paint job to begin with and redo them?

I was just thinking about that myself yesterday. If I ever get around to learning how to cast my own parts I was wondering about something like the Radid Fire Motorcycle done in a steel grey of something like that.

Hmm. How about getting Loop to sculpt a rocket pack and rocket boots - casted material takes dye really well.
