Anyone thinking about picking these up?
I bought the Arielbots minus the helicopter (can't find him yet) Dragstrip(?), and Powerglide. They're pretty cool and Superion certainty looks impressive. I thought the whole line was supposed to be all combiners but not the case after seeing Bombshell and others. That Devestator they're coming out with certainly looks impressive.
-
I was very impressed with Devastator, I will see how much it is before I go for it
-
Yeah.
I was really down to just Masterpiece transformers and the odd other purchases when it came to Transformers, but this line is drawing me back in to main line stuff again. On the plus side, I didn't get sucked into the third party craze of combiners, so I can get fairly high quality ones for a lot less.

Yeah.

I was the same. The last Hasbro thing I bought was their MP Starscream and Prime and before that the G1 re-issues. I started to dig those fancy updated ones (Blitzwing, Springer and such) but I was told the quality was poor so passed on them. I seriously considered some of the 3rd party stuff as well but the cost drove me away, especially with so many Masterpieces coming out in such a shot span.
My brother had Superion as a kid (still does in storage) and the new one is WAY better. Bigger, sturdier, more poseable, the robot modes are more true to the show. My biggest beef is Hasbro changing some of the vehicles around. How can some helicopter keep up with a team of jets?
Is there a new show coming that these toys are based on?

^comic, I believe

Yeah.

IDW is changing the mainline Transformers comic to "Combiner Wars" in the coming months, which is where the toys are going to be featured.
Don't worry too much, wave 2 has the final Aerialbot so you can replace "Alpha Bravo" in your Superion.
Basically Hasbro mixed up the characters a bit for this line to start, but will pretty much release all the original members within one or two waves for each combiner (Superion, Menasor, Defensor, etc.)

Alpha Bravo seems to be permanent but Slingshot is going to be in the Japanese release so maybe we'll be able to get it here at some point. The black jet will replace the yellow race car (Dragstrip?)

Yeah sorry. Air Raid (black jet) is wave 2 of the deluxes. Slingshot (white jet) is currently Takara (Japan) only, but there is a rumour that he will see a release later in the year (wave 4 possibly). Which, like you said, makes sense since he will be released with the Takara version.
The belief is that Alpha Bravo (the helicopter) was done simply because it allowed for an easy repaint into Blades for Defensor. However seeing as how they are releasing Slingshot in Japan, it doesn't really matter.

The only problem with getting Slingshot is that I read Superion will be sold as a set, rather than seperately. Kinda $$.

I went back and checked on some TF sites and there was a report that someone working at TRU found listings for Slingshot and the remaining Stunticon (I forget which name, Dead End?) in their system.
So there is a chance they will see release down the line. I would wait for Botcon and SDCC before making any decision to buy the Takara version.

Maybe there are 4 different jets in name only...

I'm pretty sure it has been confirmed that Slingshot is a repaint of Firefly so it would be 4 different mold and not just names.
Also, here is a pic of Viper (Powerglide repaint in Rattler colours w/ a new head) along with other wave 3 items:

I like the Power Glide as a Rattler Jet. Is there a story behind that one?
-
Wave 2 is out here one the West Coast and I'm quite happy with Menasor. He's a bit short in the torso, Blackjack sticks his chest out kinda far, and Motormaster's tractor mode is too modern for my taste but I'm pleased with the new additions. The stunticons are really rather different transformation-wise which I like and all the robot modes are really great. I really like Huffer as well, better than Windcharger in any case and came with a gun this time. All they need to do now I announce a 2-pack with the replacement figs for Alpha Bravo and the truck guy and I'm set until Devastator and Defensor.
-
Slingshot and Wildrider? They are being released later this month as Quickslinger and Brake-Neck as online available only. Not 100% sure but I think I read somewhere May 22.
-
I've read that we might see Ratchet, Ironhide, Sunstreaker and Prowl (re-tools of First Aid, Breakdown and Streetwise?) to combine with Optimus Prime. That would be weird, but also kind of awesome.
-
So, picked up the replacement Arialbot and Stunticon from TrU in the US. Pretty nice even if they're identical molds to existing figs.
Also managed to pick up Defensor, my favorite so far. Not a fan of the Rook figure. Seems kinda blocky and doesn't have fist holes for his gun but I like the vehicle mode. Defensor is sturdier than the previous combiners, he stays together better overall. Very happy with him, I love how the ladder and head work as Defensor.
Lucky for me I got Backjack previously, haven't seen another one since.
Devastator is next!

Congrats!
I still need Rook and Hotspot to finish Defensor. Like you I was lucky to find Blackjack (x2) in the wild and get them. Quickslinger and Break-Neck are better choices to finish Superion and Menasor. I mean, the original team is the must have right? I do love Off-Road though. I love the mold, colours, and a new character is always appreciated. Same goes for Alpha Bravo.
I will pick up Devastator, but only on sale, or at Costco which is all but confirmed to be getting the set for $139.99. I know people are bitching and moaning about the quality of the design for the individual bots, but the overall Devastator is still a great sight to behold.
I never thought I would be such a completest again, ever. However this line is slowly but surely dragging me down that road again.
-
I too have started to buy them. Looking for Huffer right now.
-
I preordered Devastator from TrU Canada. Still not shipping yet. He's listed as $189.99 CAD with free shipping which I thought was OK since he seems to be $139.99USD at BBTS. I'd buy a second one close to Xmas at $140 if it ends up that cheap.
My local TrU (Surrey BC) got all the Defensor limbs in last week but still no more Blackjacks.
I had to buy a second Streetwise. Mine had one really white leg for some reason and no trading card.
Anyone else got a Dragstrip with a purple fist/foot that doesn't match the other ones?
-
Defensor = damn. If I found all five, I will end up buying them. I just hope this doesn't start another completist trend with these combiners.
-
Got him last week. Expensive but awesome. Almost busted Long Haul yanking him off Hook. Had to widen the chest slot in Hook after that.
-
Man, the small combiners have dried up at retail.
-
I just managed to find Hot Spot / Groove. Now I can't find the other four. Also still need a Blackjack.
Transformers distribution is weird, eh?
-
I've been out and about the past week and there's nothing out there. A pile of first wave mini bots and a lot of Silverbolts and Motormasters and that's it. Here's hoping they all get re-released for xmas along with Bruticus.
-
Check your local Walmart. Lots of reports of people finding wave 4 deluxes. (Prowl, Ironhide, Sunstreaker, Mirage)
-
I've completed Superion with the Powerglide weapon attachment
I have motomaster and dragstrip. I need the other three Stunticons
To complete. There are none around its just the protectobots parts
In the store and there are only like 12 motomasters as central parts.
-
Hot Spot is kinda rare. I occasionally see him at WalMart but I did see one at TrU last weekend.
They seem to be ramping up the series 2 minis again, I've seen 2 Blackjacks in the past couple weeks.
TrU just got a million Protectobots, the first 2 waves seem to be about done. WalMart is your best bet I'd say.
I picked up Ironhide, Prowl and the rest of that wave 3 weeks ago at Walmart along with that white Prime at TrU last week. No Hot Rod sightings yet.
MP Starscream came and went in about 3 days at TrU. He's WAY better than the old Walmart one and way cheaper than the Takara one with similar colours. (I had to fight a bit to get his legs out but I've read a lot of reports about kinda crappy quality with that one.)
-
Finally. I found the rest of the guys I needed for Defensor at the TRU in Newmarket. Also saw the newer ones like Prowl there as well. About time TRU restocked.
-
Finally found Rodimus at Walmart and picked up a Cyclonus for $20. I've come around on Cyclonus. I kinda like how purple he is.
Also picked up silver Megatron at TrU. He was on sale for $50 I think. Kinda cool tank mode and looks good as at robot. Kinda wish he was to scale with Optimus. :(
Now keeping an eye out for Combaticons.
Noticed Hasbro changed the legs on white Prime a bit. He stands with the legs farther apart (I prefer the original style) but he stands way better as a combiner.
