Wave 9
« on: July 22, 2008, 06:39:34 PM »

Hit a couple of Wal-marts on the way home from vacation with no luck and then my wife finds a few at the home base Wal-mart.  Finally got a Wild Bill, a General Hawk and Bazooka.  The only other one was a BAT which I never was a big fan of and the Serpentor which has been peg warming for a few months now.  It is lean out there definitely more demand than supply which seems to be the new retail model.  Get it now or never find it again.

How much are they going for at Wal-Mart? I've only seen Joe stuff at TRU and Zellers.

If you know of any place cheaper in Canada I'd like to know about it.

That's what I was thinking. Most places in the US have "upped" their prices to $7.99 already...

It's probably the cheapest you're gonna find, but there's no Wal-Mart close enough to me to warrant making a special trip. Transport costs would negate any savings.

That and there's something about that many fluorescent lights that just wigs me out.

Sureshot what is the success rate in your travels?  Being outside of Edmonton I find most Zellers and Toys R Us stores have limited choice by the time I get to them.

If you can get there on a Tuesday or Wednesday that's the usually the replenishment days for Toys R' Us, Monday or Tuesday for Zellers. I've never seen more than a case of anything at any given store, so it's usually only the leftovers (especially now that I can only go on weekends as I'm working/staying in Barrhead during the week). There is just not enough product out there to sustain the amount of collectors in the Edmonton area, with scalpers thrown in for good measure. I got lucky a few times early on at Toys 'R Us with comic packs, but it is a lot easier for me just to ebay, internet, or hit the comic book stores now. My 25th collection would only be about a 10 or 20 figures if I just shopped local. This way I haven't had to settle for Canadian packaging yet either. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but the American style gets way more nostalgia points.

No Joes last weekend at the south side (Calgary Trail) TRU, which is the only one within reasonable striking distance for me. I did pick up the wave 9 Torpedo repack at my local comic store, so most specialty stores in Edmonton should have them as well.
