Title: The November Master Collector news letter, anyone got it yet?
Post by: morgardee on November 28, 2007, 09:00:50 PM
Has anyone in Canada (or outside the USA for that matter) received the G.I.Joe collectors club news letter for November 2007 yet? I'm asking because I know there are a few members here besides myself and I haven't received my copy yet.

Yep... it's all because Hasbro is coming to the Joe Meet. ;-)

Getting a little off topic here but did you guys here that botcon next year is set to place in April 24 - 28th in Ohio. Funny how close it is to the boarder and the date is just one week after Joe Canuck. Botcon and the GI Joe C.C. meet are suppose to switch back and forth between July and September.

Maybe I'm just reading into things but it seems too much like a coincidence to me that the year we get Larry and Hasbro showing up, suddenly the dates switch around drastically.

Anyhow, back on topic, anyone in Canada get their news letter yet?

Well I phoned Angie at the G.I. Joe collectors club (Gah, so much faster to type MC club) and she told me that it looks like they ALL went out. I told her I've spoke with 5 different Canadian members and none of us have it. She told me it would be handled on a per incident basis. In other words, each and every one of us need to contact them personally and let them know we haven't received it. Do me a favor and can everyone who's a member and not received their news letter let Angie know they don't have it yet. The phone number is 1-817-448-9863 (if you don't mind paying a long distance charge) or email her: angie@mastercollector.com .

There is a thread going on over there on the message board about how many of us want the on line news letter to stay, yet they have pulled it and now we are not receiving our news letters by mail either. This is a service we've paid for and it seems like everyone in Canada who I've spoke to has not gotten it. This is just another reason why the on line news letter should stay.

Thanks guys.

Hey... umm... in those threads, do a search for this " joecanuck " (without quotes).

Just curious if anyone has mentioned the Joe Meet there. ;-)

Given the proximity to Christmas, cross-border mail is likely to be delayed by at least a week longer than usual. Maybe more.

Not to mention the increase in online orders from Canada now that it's cheaper to buy and ship certain products than it is to buy them locally.

At this point, I could care less about the newsletter.  The American Thanksgiving has past by and no word about those convention Maulers being shipped by now.

Yeah, I noticed the Maulers are still listed as "preorders" in their club store. I have no idea what is going on with the MC club. They even have a holiday special where you can buy 3 MOTH sets and get the 4th free. That might get some army builder attention, except for the fact you can't pick and choose the sets you get. You would have to buy one of each meaning you would end up with doubles set 3 with the Joes in it (assuming you already own a set right now).

I called MC about a number of things this morning.  I asked about the Maulers and I was informed that they are no longer taking pre-orders because they are experiencing delays with the manufacturer.  I asked if there was any chance these would show up before Christmas and it sounded pretty doubtful.

I asked about the newsletter and it sounded as if the Canadian ones were shipped through Sweden ???  I hope it is not printed in Swedish.  I know enough to order a beer, but not enough to read it.

Got mine yesterday.

About freakin' time too.

According to the posting sticker, it is from Sweden. WTF ?!?!
That explains why it take so freakin' long!

How come nobody on the Club's board can answer that simple question: why Sweden?

Can't they print it in the States?

How come they wont solve the online newsletter issue already?

Why am I so complaining today...

Because for a place like Master Collector that Hasbro has placed so much faith in - and that you had to PAY to join, you would expect a little customer service and some respect for your money.

Shipped from Sweden, yet "printed in the USA"?

How does that make any sense? They print them in the USA, send them to Sweden and then mail them from there? Smells like bullshit.

Ugh. Mike, start a news letter.

I'm sort of kidding when I say that but honestly, I'm sure we could put out something half way decent. Lets break down the average MC news letter:

Phase one, hype the up coming con, it's figures and guest. Throw in a mention of pre-orders for an on line store. Yep, we could do that.

Phase two, a cool dio story. I'm sure we could get that done. Heck, Justin is a member here. If it's a conflict of interest then print a few of Travel Joe Canuck stories. That could be a whole section in itself.

Phaser three, do a figure review and it's history. Pete is the man when it comes to the international figures. Ask him to slap together a one page review every month. An international review would be cool coming from an Canadian group since we are outside the USA.

Phaser four, some 12' figures making fun of Big Jim. I got a bunch of Big Jim and 12' Joe figures in the attic somewhere and a digital camera.

The only really big piece of the puzzle of what's missing is what's new and coming from Hasbro. Maybe one of the on line US stores who orders product in advance could help with that.

Make it a PDF on the web landing page for everyone to download and were done. Heck, throw in some add some for one of the on line stores even.

Yeah, I know this most likely won't happen but I'm just saying it could.

And for no reason, I want to use the Mr. T icon now.

I really don't care what MC would think.... I mean, they do seem to care more about their Transformer stuff instead of Joe stuff, and messed up this Tank pretty bad in my opinion.

This years figure for the Joe Meet was started MONTHS ago - the name and idea was done pretty much within a month of the last meet, and the figure was "decided" during a visit at Stealths house this past summer. If a small group of us can get our shit together, and do everything BY HAND, there's no reason a place as big as MC with all the "official" contacts they have shouldn't.

I think Hasbro should rethink the agreement they have with MC.... But they won't. Mainly due to the Transformers end of it. I swear, if Lucasfilm didn't own Star Wars, Savage would have a Star Wars Con yearly as well.

New year is a few weeks away. If Anyone is interested in seriously starting up a Canadian Joe Newsletter, PM me.  We're small - but known enough that people will read it.
Great idea Dave.... I may have to let you beat me at wrestling next year. LOL.

This where my frustration lies with MC, the GIJOE collectors club or what ever they call themselves today.  The Maulers should have been manufactured in the spring of 2007.  If something hits the fan (and it had), then there would plenty of time to execute a plan B.  Glad to see Mike has the business sence to avoid shit like this.

Back on topic. Brian has posted over on the MC board. Apperently the problem lies with FedEx and asks that we contact the club directly:

Quote
morgardee,

There is an 800 number for orders 800-772-6673.

Also, FedEx handles the foreign mail shipments. We don't track things through the forums, we track them by who calls or emails customer service 817-448-9863.

Then we can see if there seems to be a global problem.

Brian

So please, all Canucks please pick up the phone and call the 800 number and let them know your issues are showing up late.

I will call them myself tomorrow about the December issue. We don't need to be rude. Just let them know that it's taking over 40 days for our news letters to arrive.  I also noticed the news letter says on the bottom of the front page (upside down) "This issue mailed on or before October 25, 2007".

I'm pretty sure FedEx moves faster than 45 days to deliver a news letter. It also says " Postmaster Time Value: Please Deliever by Nov 12, 2007".

Lets all make some calls tomorrow if you we can. We all need to speak up on this one.

Oh that it pure bull. "Fed Ex messed up - not us."

Fed Ex doesn't "HOLD" stuff for you. They get your money, then ship the stuff out.
Does Savage really think we're all dumb little kids that believe that noise??? A MAJOR delivery company is the only reason places outside the U.S. don't get things from MC on time?

Yeah... ok.... Friggin excuses. Own up to it MC!

I didn't renew last year.  I live in the States and my newsletter would show up a week and a half after other people in the the US said they got their newsletters.  And nothing else about the club was worth the membership price anymore.  And ever since I've been a nonmember I've gotten quite an amused kick out of reading about the next big thing The Club is dropping the ball on and then at Savage's each-one-stupider-than-the-last new excuse on WHY it went wrong.  No, I'm not laughing at anyone who's been fucked over by them, I'm laughing whole-heartedly at the sheer absurdity of it:  No matter how many times MC/GIJCC fumbled the ball anymore, I know Mike is right in that Hasbro will not rethink the agreement.  IMO The Club has proven beyond all doubt that they've bitten off way more than they can chew with handling TF and letting Joe fall further down the ladder of priority but will Hasbro yank the license and wait for someone else who WILL give GIJoe the proper love to come along and try running a new Joe club?  NO.  It's so stupid, it hurts.

I was reading the club's board and Lanny was talking about the posting of the Wild Bill figure on boards.
I told him that it was a shame that paying members HAD to go to online boards to be up to date with something they're paying for but dont receive.

I'm fed up with those guys. They won't post a pdf, but can't they see that it doesn't change anything except bother US!!!
Title: Re: The November Master Collector news letter, anyone got it yet?

I hear you and understand 100%. I'm waiting to hear where this years convention is and if it's not at a location I don't like them I'm done. I don't feel like I'm getting my money's worth or respect any more. Besides, even with the membership discount it's still cheaper to buy a case of the latest wave of figures from Smalljoes.com then it is with them. Plus Smalljoes charges a lot less on shipping ($12.00 for a case vs MC's price was near $30.00 for shipping 5 figures).

I'll just sign up for the free membership. The news letter is 45 days late so any new news they have is old by the time I get the letter and the price discount isn't economical. It just doesn't make sense to pay such a high price on a membership anymore. Maybe the 12' guys are happy with all the new stuff they are getting, but as a 3 3/4 fan it's just not cost effective any more.

Post by: morgardee on January 07, 2008, 10:12:44 PM
Yeah. I got the December news letter but that was because I phoned them.

Please, EVERYONE who is a MC member needs to email or phone them. They need to hear directly from all of us MC members. I don't like to quote the MC board as they don't like to have their stuff reposted but in this case it's important:

Quote

So there you have it. In order for them to realize there is a larger problem then they are aware then each of us who have a membership and are not getting the letters on time need to make sure they know.
