As I've been saying for years now - a Joe meet is not complete without some sort of G.I. Joe play. So I'm proposing a melee based G.I. Joe tabletop game to play at the meet this year.

I'm working on a rough set of rules, but if anyone has any suggestions or ideas over the next month, I'm open to ideas. In fact, I'll even go as far as to encourage collaborative suggestions.

Here's the basic premise:

-4 players - free for all
-4 Joes per player, teams can be any mix of good, evil characters. (if anyone has suggestions for team bonuses based on theme, i.e. an all ninja team might get a speed bonus or an all-Viper team might get confused extra easily and can take their turns out of order - throw 'em in here)
-Each figure has 3 hit points. We'll determine this with "score-cards" to keep track.
-Play is turn-based, going 'round the table and through the "rosters". (so after 16 turns, every character will have moved)
-Game ends when there is only one team left. Surviving team gets a +3 bonus to their score.
-Points are determined by "kills". (only the final blow counts)
-Attacks work as follows: enemy targets must be within "range" (I will bring rulers) and a 10-sided die is rolled. If 7 or higher is rolled, the defender must roll to defend, if the attackers roll is beaten, then the attack is defended. Otherwise, the defender is damaged. i.e. Crazylegs attacks Raptor and rolls an "8". Raptor rolls to defend. If Raptor rolls an "8", "9" or "10" the attack is defended, otherwise he takes a point of damage.

Any interested players post in this thread and suggest your rosters, rule suggestions etc. (no worries about who gets what roster, we can have duplicate figures in battle) You can also suggest a rule even if you're not playing.

Warhammer is tabletop game. I've played it twice. It's intense.

I actually have a rulebook for a "generic" toy tabletop game called Toying With Destruction that extends from minatures to toy trains to teddy bears to essentially anything. It uses a size/material system for HP and a points system for abilities.

Unless you want to rent a table to play it on Jon - I don't think we're going to have room for you to 'take' a table all to yourself for it.

Maybe if you'd alerted me to this awhile ago I might of been able to squeeze it in.... but the 'timetable' and 'layout' is done. And with just over a month left to the meet - I have other things to take care of now so I can't re-do it all.
Sorry.

At last count, it appears like we'll have around 20 or more tables at the meet for dealers.
Not to mention two for customs, more for door prizes, the speed painting contest, and a TON more.

Actually... I need to check. I think I may be out of table spaces already?! And there's some that haven't said if they need a table for sure or not yet!?

I'll "oversee" that so you don't have to worry about two guys getting into a fistfight after accidentally breaking their Joes.

THAT is totally different from a 'game' type setting like you're suggesting in THIS thread.

That's what I meant previously. A table dedicated to play. How is that different?

I'm still willing to rent the table. I'm not trying to get out of paying fees here. I just want to make it happen.

If you want to help make the Joe Meet "better" (I thought I was doinga great job up 'till now).

Why not offer to HELP out more at it instead of just 'tearing' down.
Tearing down is simple and takes all but 10 minutes. To be honest - between myself, Denise and Moto-Viper (my official henchman of the Joe Meet), teardown is taken care of.

If you're willing to watch 'this' table all day and take care of it, why not put in a shift or two at the Custom Table to keep an eye on things, or the door?

While I can appareciate you wanting to 'do' something more for the meet that you enjoy, I need the help in other areas that are already planned - instead of starting a new one.

Of course, you're more than welcome to play with your Joes at a spare table at the meet - if there is one.

The meet is going to be VERY different this year in that there's non-JoeCanuck.com members coming. There's people setting up to just SELL items - that really don't give a crap about G.I. Joe and just want to make some extra money. That's fully allowed since I'm promoting this as the Canadian Joe Meet and Toy Show.

So I'ms orry Jon, while your idea sounds unique, I won't be including it in the Joe Meet.
Perhaps next year. I plan on starting a thread for next year near the start of summer. Mention it in there by then.

Who knows.... maybe you'll have a full set of solid rules and gameplay times worked out! ;-)

I know Scramble had a board game type thing at the Montreal Meet.... Scrams? How did that one go?

I had the whole board set up and waiting for people to play but no one wanted to step away from the TV playing Season 1 Part 2. When they did start playing, fun was had. But I had to guilt people into playing.

After re-writing it over and over since VERY early this morning, I have finally replied to your PM.

Be EXTREMELY thankful that I did - there's another 12 members here still awaiting replies from me - which I'm too busy to deal with right now.
