Ontario / GI Joe Shopping in Cottage Country
« on: May 24, 2010, 12:59:20 PM »
I had to set up the In-Laws cottage this weekend and I had a free couple of hours so I went into Halburton Village.  I want to see if they had any GI Joe for sale.  They have only one toy store which was located inside the local V&S department store.  I could not believe my eyes, they still had 25th anniversary figures on display and they were on SALE for $6.99 each.  The figures were from Wave 10 and 11.  I had too much beer this weekend to remember which exact figure they had for sale.  The RoC line was at $14.99 so I did not bother to look at them.

Ontario / Sears has a clearance of RoC vehicles
« on: May 07, 2010, 08:58:14 PM »
I stop looking at Sears for Joes as they stop stocking them months ago.  But for some reason I went to the toy section at Sears in the Scarborough Town Centre and they had RoC vehicles on clearance.  Now before you race to the store to see what they have, I will tell you, just 2 items:
Cobra Gunship with Firefly (red helmet) for 19.99
PIT Mobile Command for 99.99 (Not a real deal)

Off Topic / Obama Action Figure Looks Ready to Kick Some Ass!
« on: April 27, 2010, 09:43:02 AM »
I had to share this with all of you!
Coming in August 2010 to a G.I. Joe footlocker (or Barbie Playhouse) near you: The Barack Obama action figure!

The Barack Obama action figure: Ths president means business... even if he's naked.
Tell me that this chiseled, naked representation of the President doesn't look like he's ready to kick ass and take names.  I dare ya...
Sporting 38 points of articulation, this 1/6 scale action figure (making him a whopping 11.8 inches in height) from Hot Toys comes with two pairs of hands-with one set pointing at evil-doers of the world, while the other set is relaxed and ready for serious Kung-fu!
G.I. Joe will stare in envy as the ass-kickery evidenced by this muscled representation of democracy!  And Barbie will swoon... much to Ken's chagrin.
And all of this with nary a stitch of clothing!
You can get your very own Obama action figure at J-List!

G.I. Joe - New Details About 'G.I. Joe: The Movie' Include Word of a Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack

More is also revealed about widescreen vs. full-screen versions of the production
Posted by David Lambert
 4/20/2010

Early last month we passed along word that Shout! Factory was gearing up for a DVD and high-def Blu-ray Disc release of 1987's direct-to-video production "G.I. Joe: The Movie. We soon followed up with the specific release date - July 27th - as well as a look at the package art for both versions (seen again below).

Now Shout! has settled one of the questions that fans have been asking: would the releases would stick to the broadcast-and-VHS aspect ration of full frame for this new release, or go back to the as-originally-intended widescreen aspect ratio for a production which was originally meant to be seen in theaters? Yesterday Shout!'s producer for this title, Brian Ward, posted the answer at Shout!'s official message board. The solution he described says this: "The Blu-ray release will be a BD/DVD combo. The BD will carry both widescreen and fullframe versions of the movie. The DVD will only have the original fullframe."

So the only Blu-ray release of G.I. Joe: The Movie is now targeted to come with a second disc, the DVD version of the production (Ward clarifies that the BD disc has the widescreen version, and the separate DVD disc contains the full-screen version). Amazon's pre-order listing has been updated to reflect this change to a combo pack, by the way. Ward also went on to mention that he isn't allowed to speak about bonus material yet, but that "The movie itself, though, has definitely been remastered in HD." He further comments about the DVDs and BDs for this title that "Sadly, neither is captioned or subtitled" (more about the reasons for this can be found in earlier posts made by him at the same discussion thread). Further details, including a complete list of extras, should be available soon, so stay tuned!

Off Topic / Hasbro Earnings Grow Up
« on: April 21, 2010, 11:04:26 AM »
I found this story on Forbes.com while googling the WEB about GI Joe and looked interesting:

Carl Gutierrez, 04.19.10, 05:30 PM EDT
Strong sales through most of its business offset drop in boy-related toy sales.
Hasbro's first quarter earnings growth possibly indicates that the vaunted American consumer is coming back to life.
Hasbro ( HAS - news - people )'s quarter was reminiscent of chief competitor Mattel ( MAT - news - people ), which reported on Friday. Toys, it would seem, are a more tenacious consumer item during a recession than other products. Even so, the retail segment in general appears on the mends as consumer budgets begin to thaw. On Wednesday the U.S. Commerce Department reported retail sales rose for the third consecutive month, gaining 1.6% in March.
Hasbro's case, earnings nearly tripled to $58.9 million, or 40 cents per share, from $19.7 million, or 14 cents per share, in the first three months of 2009. Sales meanwhile rose to $672.4 million, up 8.2% from $621.3 million a year ago. Excluding a tax adjustment, Hasbro’s earnings only reached 26 cents per share, but that was still well ahead of the 16 cents per share Wall Street expected.
Brian Goldner, the toy maker's chief executive, cautioned investors to not expect the second quarter to top last year's, which benefited from the release of movies based on Transformers and G.I. Joe.
The market was pleased with the report, pushing shares of the toy maker 2.7%, or $1.06, higher, to $40.91, while peer Mattel slipped 1.3%, or 32 cents, to $23.52. Hasbro’s shares have risen 6.1% over the past month, and 26.1% since the beginning of the year.
The company’s international segment saw the biggest gains, as sales rose 17.2% to $221.7 million, thanks partly to a $16.3 million impact from foreign exchange. Sales in the U.S. and Canada gained 5% to $424.7 million, from $404.5 million, thanks to growth in Games & Puzzles, Girls and the Preschool businesses, all of which offset the drop in its Boys segment, which set the pace in the prior quarter. (See “Real American Hero Lifts Hasbro.”)
Goldner maintained his confidence, saying that he believes Hasbro will be able to grow sales and earnings for the full year 2010. In a treat to its investors, Hasbro demonstrated that confidence by announcing a $625 million share buyback program Monday, which follows its recently increased dividend.

U.S. & International / HasbroToyShop.com has a sale on RoC vehicles
« on: April 20, 2010, 10:58:23 AM »
During my daily Interent Search of everything GI Joe, I found that HasbroToyShop.com has reduced the prices of the RoC Alpha and Bravo vehicles. for example:
Mantis Attack Craft, Mole Pod, Rockslide, Snake Traxx, Sky Sweeper and MARS Preview Pack for $9.99
Armored Panther for $12.99
Cobra Gunship, Crimson Hydra for $14.99
Night Raven for $24.99 (Zellers 50% is still better)
All prices are in USD but with the CAD at par it may be worth a check.  The other Bravo vehicles are not on sale.
