pass on the croc master. Just not a huge fan of the colour scheme of python patrol. I like this blowtorch , but seriously if PoC is a modern time joes would they even have a guy with a flamethrower?

Maybe they'd still need a flamethrower to melt all those Artic Destros?

These really look terrific. It boggles the mind they didn't go this route right off the bat.

Although the US military has not used Flame-throwers since 1978, and have stopped using them as a matter of practise, doesn't mean the weapons still have some uses. Its like a crossbow, a very effective weapon, in certain circumstances, but so specific in its use that its not the kind of thing you'd carry into the field as a matter of course.
Blowtorch is like a number of Joes on the roster, like Charbroil, Skydive, Flash, Cover Girl, Cutter etc with a MOS that says they'd sit on the sidelines more than they'd be used.

Cover Girl shuold've been used more as a back-up MOBAT or Mauler driver or even a HAVOC driver when they needed more'n one of them...

wasn't Skydive a para? so surely he'd just be used as an infatryman like Ripcord and Crazy Legs sometimes were...

Well, ALL the Joes are essentially infantrymen. That would be their core infantry skill before all others. In the real special forces world, all the gadgets and gear are nothing if a soldier cannot pick up a rifle and a heavy pack and WALK 100-200 miles or whatever to get to a target area and then fight. That's the de facto gauge of military ability ( in the real world) because its the one skill that assures the solider can be where needed.
In a sense, this is even reflected in Blowtorch, as he comes with a SCAR rifle.
The toys though mostly reflect the ideal that a guy like Skydive is JUST used for his jet pack skills, or Quick Kick or Budo used for their martial arts skills, or Deep Six used for deep-sea missions and that's pretty much all they do. Obviously this is for a lot of reasons: keeping it simple and identifiable for the kids, for example.

Blowtorch gets used, even though his MOS is obsolete because a flamethrower guy is much more dramatic and identifiable a character than  a.....say, Navy Fuel Handler codenamed "JP" or "Grape"--which remains a current and important MOS.

Come to think of it.....Budo is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay harder to reason out than Blowtorch. ;-D

You are partially correct. The U.S. military had kept the flamethrowers in their arsenal until 1978, but last used them prior to that date during the war in Vietnam (specifically, the M9A1-7 flamethrower).

The military continues to use incendiary weaponry, but the delivery system has changed over time. Burning the enemy with a liquid stream of flame just isn’t efficient compared to using today’s rocketry.

The M202A1 FLASH (Flame Assault Shoulder Weapon) is 66 mm  4-Tube Rocket Launcher which fires M235 Incendiary Rockets some 200-500 meters which consumes the enemy using thickened pyrophoric agent (TPA) when exposed to oxygen. The weapon is issued as needed, usually one per rifle platoon, in the war in Afghanistan.

In 2009, Hasbro released an accurately sized and colored version of this weapon as a spring loaded missile launcher toy with the Conrad "Duke" Hauser action figure in collection 1 wave 1 of the G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra toy line. Most collectors which I know dismissed this weapon because it was a spring loaded missile launcher toy, and had no idea what the M202A1 FLASH was.

So, now you know. And knowing is half the battle.

wow thats awesome info, thanks!  It would be cool if they updated Blowtorch to be an expert on these new Incendiary weapons.

Agreed. Blowtorch is already an expert in these new incendiary weapons. Just like both his 1984 and 2011 filecards say, “Blowtorch is thoroughly familiar with all military incendiary devices and flame projection equipment…”, and on the original 1984 filecard his primary MOS is Infantry Special Weapons, and his secondary is Small-Arms Armorer.

Because he has some futuristic version of an M-7 styled flamethrower, small children get stuck in the moment and think of him as only a Flamethrower soldier. In this Pursuit of Cobra series version, Hasbro tried to keep all of the details consistent with the 1984 and 25th Anniversary versions of this character, but also to take it to the next level with more realistic accessories.

For instance, he comes with two olive drab colored High-Explosive Incendiary (HEI) Anti-tank landmines (designed to pierce armor, fragment, and ignite readily combustible materials) with a very distinctive 220 lb. trigger visible on the top, and six magnetic firing mechanisms radiate upwards from the outer edges of the mine (to enable it to detonate even if the tires or tracks of a vehicle do not touch it).

Once a Cobra vehicle detonates the landmine, Blowtorch and his fellow Joes must assault the surviving enemy victims. During this phase of the attack, a M-7 flamethrower wand is not needed to spray liquid fire on the burning enemy, and Hasbro knows that.

Instead, Blowtorch should be correctly equipped wearing his backpack fire extinguisher (which says “Powder” on it, but we know it really is Purple-K, a dry chemical fire suppression agent used in dry powder fire extinguishers of the military. Very effective, but should not be inhaled, thus Blowtorch would still have to wear his facemask.

In his arms would be his FN SCAR-H assault rifle, but he has those two important canisters of Purple-K behind him when needed.

It's just a very realistic way of using the Blowtorch character in a military capacity, but it seems that some collectors just aren't appreciating it or understanding it.

Oh well, I'm glad Hasbro tried.
