Yearly CanJoeCon Discussion / Re: 2012 CJC WebStore now online!
« on: July 10, 2012, 12:44:40 PM »
I love how the T-shirts are available in different colors this year! Am I intepretting the images correctly that they are not "2012"-specific this year?

With the pre-order clock ticking down, is there a board posting minimum that a person has to have met in order to pre-order the con set (toys)? And if so, what is that minimum number? Just want to know whether I'm eligible.

Thanks,

Blitzkrieg

If we are getting the Armour Cycle as the second vehicle, I am wondering if it will be powder blue/turquoise as an homage to those transforming cycles in Robotech. We got a powder blue S.N.A.K.E., so anything's possible. ;-)

With unique DIE CUT sticker sheets and fully working threads/wheels. (They still move!)
The double blaster moves 100% as well.

Much like the HATE had 905 numbers for that years convention city (Hamilton).
The HATE Scout will have 416 as it's numbers.

Still to be shown, two more figures and one more vehicle! (Date to be announced)
Let the guessing begin!

Nice job! HATE Scout was my second guess. Now we know what xxxx xxxxx stands for. I like how the driver's name complements his vehicle.

Using the local convention area codes to number the vehicles is really clever. I was always wondering about the origin of 905.

I'll assume as well that the Armour Cycle will be used to balance out the HATE Scout, with the RHINO being used next year as the focal point of the 2013 con set.

As much as Cobra North kicks a whole bunch of tail, I am typically a fan of the good guys, so I'm hoping the remaining figures and vehicle add some headcount and firepower to the JoeCanuck roster.

Only about a month away!

Between the shades and the Fu Manchu moustache, this guy has a cool Sly Rax (from V.E.N.O.M.) look to him.

I love his international origin. Based on the look of his age, I assume he was born when Berlin was divided. Will there be any indication on his file card or in the con comic as to whether he was East or West German growing up (possibly part of the Stasi [the East German version of the Soviet KGB])? Looking forward to learning more about this dude!

A WHALE is about the same size as the Skystriker--and technically has about the same number of parts. The vane assemblies on the fans are notoriously difficult to find intact, and that makes restoring a WHALE very hard.

I know, I'm trying to do just that.
It would be a grand item to re-issue, and looks really cool still. IF they can re-engineer the vanes assemblies, it would make it more desirable than the original--which is saying something.
I'd LOVE to see the WHALE again, and it would be my first choice.

The WHALE would certainly turn alot of heads at Toy Fair (though not as many as a re-released Tomahawk, IMHO). For me to get excited about a WHALE re-release, it would need to have a number of enhancements... too many to justify the cost.

Ok, so let's make the thread.  What do you think?  Here are some of my thoughts.

My first thought on this is that Hasbro wouldn't make such a big deal about this, and be all secretive until Toyfair if is wasn't a biggie.  By biggie, I mean a top tier "want' by fans, and not size wise.

Next, it has to be something in the 83-86 range.  Why?  Well after 86 has some really great vehicles, but nothing that fans are really screaming for before a lot of other stuff.  Also, 82 is pretty much done.  I would love a Cobra Missile Command, HAL, MMS or JUMP, but 3 are not big enough to warrant this kind of announcement and the other is a cool playset, but I don't think Hasbro wants to offer us a cardboard playset and make a big deal of that.  Everything else 82 has been (re)made.  That leaves 83-86 to draw upon.

So trying to think like a fan and Hasbro at the same time, makes my head hurt.  HOWEVER, if I were to pick a top three for possibilities I would go with:

MAULER
MORAY
TOMAHAWK.

I agree with your deductive reasoning/process of elimination.

The Mauler was close to being recreated by the club had the turret mold allegedly not been damaged, which means assuming Hasbro didn't dump the rest of the molds needed to make that tank, the turret could be remolded to complete the tank. I believe last year's Hasbro panel featured the Mauler being re-released as part of their "What could have been" slides.

The Moray was re-released both by the Club and at retail within the past 10 years, so although a cool vehicle and potentially accessible, I don't think it has quite the amount of fan enthusiasm behind it to warrant a high-profile re-release.

Besides the (2-seater) Skystriker, the Tomahawk is the one vehicle that seems to be at the top of most fanboys' lists for re-release. Back in the day, although the vehicle was large, Hasbro managed to fit it into a pretty compact box, like they did recently with the Skystriker. If Hasbro wanted to make a splash at Toy Fair, this is the vehicle that I feel would garner the most media/fan attention. Reissuing it with sliding or removable side panels and enhanced side guns with gunners' chairs (ala Clone Wars) would be phenomenal.

Newsletter Section / Re: 2012 Spring JoeCanuck newsletter now online!

That's the plan.... As long as people send in reviews and articles!

Is there currently a shortage of reviews and articles? If so, perhaps sending out an e-mail "blast" to all forum users or front paging a request for materials to ensure that a summer edition of the newsletter will be published will help call folks to action, if needed. Just my humble suggestions.

I'm very happy to see the newsletter return. Great issue!

Since the issues seem to be quarterly/seasonal now, will we be getting a summer issue right before the con filled with con information and hopefully a prologue comic that leads into this year's con comic?

Looking forward to the next issue,

Too bad there aren't multiples to army build.

Do we know that for sure?

Blitzkrieg

Look earlier (page 1?) in the Q & A thread that you posted in. Unless that's misdirection/misinterpretation, but seems a pretty clear 'no' to me.

Yup, found it in the meantime. Sorry, my bad.

Introductions / Re: It's About Time

Thanks for the warm welcomes, guys.

I should also give a shout out to one other JoeCanuck board member who I met outside of the con.

Last September my wife and I traveled to Montreal for vacation, and although those Wave 5 POC figures were plentiful north of the border, I checked stores in 7 states (no exaggeration) and only found a part of this wave at a comic book store off the beaten path. So on our way to Old Montreal, we stopped at a Toys R Us and sure enough there were Wave 5 POC figures galore. As I was staring at the figures, a gentleman was standing next to me and addressed me in French. When I responded with my automatic, "Je ne parle pas Francais.", he began speaking to me in English. It turns out that it was Oreobuilder!  :D We talked Joes for a while and he gave me some great tips as to where to pick up those Canada-exclusive Armour Cycle and HISS Scout vehicles along with other Joe toys on my checklist. By the time we left Canada, I had pile of Joe loot collected in my trunk. Thanks again for your help, Oreobuilder! To this day, I still can't get over the cosmic coincidence that I'd meet up with a fellow JoeCanuck member without some sort of planning.

With folks wanting multiples of H.A.G.A.R. to army build (assuming it's not an individual character), how many figures are in this year's set? How many vehicles?
