Yearly CanJoeCon Discussion / Re: Post your Con Haul!!!
« on: August 17, 2012, 11:21:13 AM »
I would have liked to have seen you guys there again (and some of you for the first time maybe).  Maybe one day I'll make another one.  Let me ask you guys some questions, was the 7 hour wait on the sidewalk still in effect?  Did Nova have those bins of cheap accessories and 3 figures for a dollar?  What was the panels about?

Just made an order.  Got a question:  are there going to be trading cards this year?  I have the full set so far and would love to be able to order any from this year.  Thanks for making the comic available (got all those so far too).

General Joe Talk / Re: 1982/83 Helmets
« on: June 20, 2012, 12:38:06 AM »
iirc the same helmet was used for Zap, Clutch, Rock'n'Roll, Grunt, Breaker, Flash, Hawk, Grand Slam and Steeler. (basically all of the '82 figures.)

i think it was also used for Duke, but a different colour. the Roadblock helmet lacked the tiny holes for clipping on visors.

It sure was fun keeping my post count to 2222 for a little while  ;) , anyway this is an interesting tread and here's my imput:

Just to clarify what fellow Sundance stated, there were in fact colour distinctions between the helmets amongst the original 13 figures that came with one. Based on my experience, I was able to identify 3 main categories of green colors used for the 82-83 helmets, although there could be more subtleties such as color variations depending on the figure, the year and other factors:

  • Per instance, the helmet of Clutch, Breaker, Flash, Hawk, Short-Fuze had a more off-green tone (if you put an accessory pack grey helmet next to it, you will see that the green ones do stand out).
  • The helmet of Zap and Steeler had a brighter tone of green.
  • While finally, the helmet of Grunt, Rock N Roll and Grand Slam were of a darker off-green.

Duke and Roadrock's helmets are also bright green (similar to Zap's and Steelers, not sure how similar though, or if it's the exact same color) and both either came with or without holes, due to a change that was made during the production run I believe.

Great information there, that's the kind of stuff that's great to find/read on a forum.

I loving these two so far.  Hope the rest are as accurately done.  Shrage actually uses the same head, torso, and lower legs as the custom I've had mostly done for awhile.

In issue 127 of the comic run, we learn that Jane was the nurse for the original Joe team which at that time was headed by Joe Colton.  So, this is Nurse Jane and Joe Colton during the early years, before the formation of the Joe team in 1982 by General Flagg and Hawk.

I based Nurse Jane off of the 12 inch GI Nurse as released in 1967.  I got the reference shots off the net.  No, I don't actually own one of those.

I took the pics in my big Pitt I started about 3 summers back and hadn't really worked on since.

Here's Joe!  I was wanting to use this head for Joe for a long time, but I just wasn't wanting to shell out the money for the figure to get it.  In the meantime, I noticed some other tankers used it, and then I was able to get one myself when they went on sale after Christmas.

I just today discovered the newsletter, and man was I excited when I saw my article on there.  Humbled too, as it wasn't very interesting, but it was very kind of Mike to include it.  Thanks!

General Joe Talk / Re: Danger Girl/GI Joe from IDW

I was just looking at the tradeback in books a million about 25 minutes ago.  I guess it was the first issues, collected.  Anyways, showed one of the girls naked in a big panel with a towel hanging vertically and covering a few parts.  Had another (repeated) shot of one of them with the seat of her pants torn out so you could see most of her butt cheek.  Also noticed profanity, that's one of the things I respect about Larry Hama, he can tell a great story without resorting to profanity.  The first pages had sexual innuendo as the guy who had apparently captured the girl was expecting her to have sex with him, and she pretended to play along so she could kick him in the privates.  Not exactly Hama worthy story.  If I can't read it in front of my son, then I have no business reading it.

I'm not sure what to make of this one.  On the one hand, it seems intriguing and interesting, but on the other, I'm not very familiar with Danger Girl.  It looks like the focus is lust and if that's an undeniable characteristic, I'll need to pass.

You're not too familiar with the body of work from J. Scott Campbell, are you?

No, not really.  I've heard the name, he did the joe covers for the first tradebacks and the ddp.  And some pin up joe issue or something like that.  Not familiar with him beyond that.  Does he do a lot of borderline porn stuff?
