GI Joe Subscription figures.
« on: October 14, 2011, 02:10:40 PM »

I changed the title of this thread to include all the new subscription figure from Fun Publishing/ Master Collector as they come out and I'm adding Quarrel and Nano Bat.

The first figure to be revealed was Quarrel:

Second was Nano Bat:

Third was Topside:

Topside is a new head mold:

I'm not really blown away with this one.

I've always liked Topside, but this figure repeats an omission that the first one had: the original card art showed a black front on the dome of the helmet--a treatment I always found aesthetically pleasing. Neither the original figure nor this have that paint app, and I'd love to see it.
Still, I think the figure looks quite nice and I'm finding myself actually pondering getting a subscription.

Looks like they use the Shipwreck figure from the Comic 2 pack with Rock and Roll's head

Where is Topside's baler-twine belt?

That was my favourite feature on the original.

The arms look a little different, otherwise I think you've nailed it.

I was disappointed when I saw this figure.  I was actually considering the subscription service until now because if they are just going to make slap together figures like this one I'm not interested.

Unless the figures are under $20 and shipping is reduced I'm out!

I'm actually pretty pleased with this one.  As much as I love the true classic ARAH characters, I didn't get into Joe collecting until '88-'89.  Characters like Topside are the ones I remember finding at retail when I was a kid.  I was honestly about to start making a custom Topside using that exact configuration, & now I don't have to!  I'm even more excited for the figure service now, and I'm extra glad my new Flagg will have another much-needed crewman!  Now if we could just get a 25th Admiral Keel-Haul...

If I go for the sub, I'd set about getting that nifty little backpack rocket launcher that the original had-with the little fold-out stand than those two red rockets.

4th figure was revealed today. It's Dice:

The figure looks OK but I was expecting a bit more from Fun Publishing. At the convention in Florida this year they were saying the club subscription figures were going to be more like items Hasbro made but never produced, foreign figures, and rare figures.

The first two figures, Quarrel and Nano Bat lived up to that hype but Topside and Dice might as well be random figures from a 7 pack. They are not worth more then $15 (shipped) in my opinion.  Chances are good they will be more like $20 - $25 before shipping. Fun Publishing really needs to watch what they are charging for the figures and shipping or else we'll be seeing sets on sale in 2 years at the 2014 convention.  :-\

Is there anyone besides me who is thinking that MC's topside looks like he could've belonged to the Adventure team series?
