Off Topic / Transformers Animated Fans?
« on: September 14, 2008, 10:32:11 AM »
Hey guys, anyone into transformers animated?  I recently got hooked after watching season 1 & 2 and seeing the over abundance of TA stock in all the big box stores around here I took a plundge and bought some figures - they're completely badass and highly recommended.

Anyways, does anyone know when Canada will be getting wave 2 of the Leader class?  It only has Ultra Magnus but OMG what an awesome looking toy!  TRU Canada online has it out of stock atm.

General Joe Talk / peg warming a bad sign?
« on: September 10, 2008, 08:31:40 AM »
Ok for months you've heard me gripe about the big box stores in my area not getting in new G.I. Joe product, and when they do it's literally one case that doesn't last long when put on the shelf.

And we've heard Hasbro Canada will be ramping up their distribution in "the Fall", but from the posts I read around here about your toy findings it looks like my neck of the woods is considered the boonies of shipping.

But now I'm starting to see product coming in and it's a little alarming.  In the last few weeks the TRU at Yonge/Hwy7 has had the DVD packs and at least 15 wave 7 Vipers hanging on the shelf!  The Wal*Mart at Markville Mall has what I've counted as two solid boxes of the vehicles and they haven't moved off the shelf for weeks!  And the Super Wal*Mart up at Stouville has had wave 8 warming their peg for weeks as well.

I suspect this is because we all already got our fill of wave 7, 8, DVD-packs, and wave 1 vehicles already.  But I'm worried that the big boxes are going to view this as the toyline not moving and taking up valueable shelf space.

yeah yeah, first I complain we're not getting new product, now I'm complaining about the peg warming old restock :)

Ontario / went back to the hood and was pleased to see this!
« on: August 29, 2008, 11:19:45 AM »
So I had to make a trip to Scarberia (Scarborough), my old stomping grounds and in the most ghetto-est of malls I was very happy to see TRU was stacked with Joe product, I mean stacked!  At least two cases of vehicles (HISS tanks, VAMPs, etc.), all the latest comic pack assortments (Nemisis, IG, etc.) and two full cases of wave 8 on canadian cards.

I haven't seen that much shelf space dedicated to G.I. Joe in EVER up here.  Course I didn't need anything so I didn't buy anything but it was nice to see in a place I would have never thought would stock this stuff.

Meanwhile back in Suburbia, my now-local wal*mart and TRU have jack for Joes.  TRU has two pegs for old wave 7 stock and Wal*Mart has no pegs at all, just scattered bits and pieces of old stock - if you're lucky to find them.

I'm just happy to see joe product hitting the shelves in some places - yeah it's not wave 9 - but it's a start!

Off Topic / what you find in your local toy aisle
« on: August 07, 2008, 12:48:46 PM »
So in the past few weeks i've spent more time at Wal*Mart and TRU toy aisles than I ever have since getting back into this hobby in 2000.  Here's a few interesting observations I've made:

1. Old creepy guy love Hot Wheels.  Seriously, this senior had his cart parked infront the Hot Wheels cars and he meticulously went through ever single package, moving cars back and forth from peg to peg (looking for that chase car? haha no pun intended).  I was waiting on a CSR to ask them a Joe-related inventory question so you know how long I was there, and so was he.

2. It is an exercise in futility asking a CSR about Joe-inventory...when they show up.  Otherwise I'm standing around like an old creepy guy waiting on a CSR that was paged about 20 minutes ago to come to the "toy aisle a customer is waiting!"

3. Kids love Transformers.  The few times I bumped into moms and their tots, the little rugrats were asking/begging/nagging/bugging their moms for another Transformer - sorry guys no MILFs in the lot :(

4. Other adult toy collectors are elusive.  Saw one guy I beat by mere seconds while getting a fresh case of wave 2 vehicles from TRU one morning.  He was very pleasant and said he already ordered em online so he didn't need any.  Saw another guy in the parking lot with a G.I. Joe T-shirt on, may not have been a collector but who wears G.I. Joe T-Shirts on the fly?  As for the rest of them?  I only see those blasted Wild Bills peg warming a peg once filled with wave 9.

5. Gas is ridiculous.  My first time doing the brick & mortar "toy hunt" and the toll on the gas tank is incredible - how do you guys do it?

For Sale or Trade / Lots of 25A stuff for SALE
« on: July 27, 2008, 09:28:37 AM »
I didn't have much luck trading for what I want so I'm going to try another route and put everything up for sale.  Before I list 'em off, here's a bit of house-keeping:

1. I only accept Paypal.
2. I'll only ship to Canada or the States (unless you're willing to pay the shipping price for elsewhere)
3. All prices are in US
4. The price quoted for a lot includes shipping/handling and paypal fees - and no I'm not splitting up the lot
5. Shipping for 1 MOC is $5 and each additional MOC is $0.50
6. If you want to buy a mix of stuff then I'll find out what exact shipping is.
7. I've provided pictures, figures as is.

I don't want to gouge anyone on shipping nor do I want to make a loss because it's not worth this effort and all of you know how much this stuff costs at retail.

Hopefully the rules above are nice, simple, and fair.

Ontario / Any signs of wave 9 (2k8 wave 5) yet?
« on: July 02, 2008, 01:13:31 PM »
This wave more than any other wave I'm waiting for.  My favourite Joe, my favourite army builder, my definitative General Hawk, another popular army builder and finally one more guy to flesh out the class of 1985!!!!

Our neighbours to the south have been getting them in now and so far I've had no luck...

June-29 - Wal*Mart - nothing
June-30 - Wal*Mart - nothing, TRU - loads of wave 7/8
July-1 - Super Wal*Mart - nothing

Heading over to Buffalo on July-12 but not holding my breath because New York state always gets things last.

Ontario / wave 8 (2k8 wae 4) hits Canadian retail!
« on: May 26, 2008, 12:40:53 PM »
Wowawewa!  Stopped off at Wal*Mart in Markville Mall, Markham, Ontario again at lunch (I gotta make this a habit) and low and behold the single peg dedicated for 25A figs was stocked full of WAVE 8!!!! in Canada!!!!

I'm keeping the American carded versions MOC (whenever my online retailer gets them in) so I only bought the Canadian versions I wanted to open up for my loose display (yeah I had to pick up another Viper):

Canadians start your engines!

Ontario / Specialty stores and their prices...yikes!
« on: March 25, 2008, 01:04:50 PM »
I don't get it, hopped across the street to Heroe's World during lunch to see if they had any 25A stuff because I'm really looking for a loose Battle Armor CC and Torpedo.

It was impressive to see their display - a half wall of carded joes up to the current wave - something I haven't seen since the 80s, then I saw the price tags.  $19.99 per figure!?! Are you kidding me?  Not only is our dollar roughly on par with the States, and taking into consideration cross-border taxes et. al., how can they seriously mark up the price by 300%?

The comic pack waves were all there too for $29.99 and I was too scared to even look at the Legions 5-pack.

Granted places like this and Toys Toys Toys aren't known for "best deals" but I can't even justify why the 300% markup!  I'm so happy the convention is 3 weeks away...

K.B. suggested it and hopefully it will help a few of us newbies get a better idea about what to do at the Joe Meet.  Only recently I went to my first Toy Show as a "warm up" for this one, so there's a few things I'd like to know:

1. How many items are we allowed to give Larry Hama to sign? (Mike answered it in another thread - limit of 2)

2. Are we allowed to trade our items to vendors for products they have on sale or is it strictly purchase-only?

3. Can you bargain?

4. Will we be going to a bar/resturaunt for some drinks/eats?  Gotta reserve some $ for that

5. Do you have to sign up for any of the events?  Speed painting, Xbox wrestling?

Here's another:

6. For rummaging through the bins do you have to line up to take turns or first come first serve?  I felt guilty yesterday picking out all the Stinger Drivers when these two dudes were behind me watching, so I gave them one of my Stinger Drivers.  Since there's lots of people all looking for the same product is there a time-limit on how long you get to go through the bins?
