Is it a fake Storm Shadow?
« on: October 11, 2010, 07:53:42 PM »

The title says 1989, the description says 1990, the seller has many for sale...

General Hawk: Technically, G.I. Joe does not exist, but if it did, it\'d be comprised of the top men and women from the top military units in the world, the alpha dog\'s. When all else fails, we don\'t.

Looks real and I have a bunch of MOSC China figres. Still, he also sells a bunch of those Transformer knock offs and the bubble on the sword looks a little thing to me. Hard to say.

I have one.. pretty sure it's a fake.. there's a ton of these on eBay right now! I know that there's a real version that was made a couple of years ago but I don't know the differences between them  :-

I think that the Cobra emblem on the figure is not the same on the bootleg version.. but I'm not a variation specialist so..

Funny that you say this now....you and I had a conversation about this Storm Shadow figure a while back. Since I bought two of them I can re-confirm to you that it is without a second doubt 100% fake.

Since I have a good dozen of chinese Gi joe figures moc, I have been able to tell them apart. The guy who did them is a pro. One thing that should give away to an unfamiliar collector that it is fake is if you look carefully at the Cobra emblem: it is not a real Cobra logo. It looks like it but it's not. I'll try to take a close-up pic of it if I can. the other suspicious sign is the card itself: the colors are too dark, too saturated, as if it would've been scanned and printed that way. That's not the usual Hasbro China's quality trademark.

As for the accessories, they look real enough to the point that if you swap them with authentic ones they would have to be taken to a lab to be able to tell them apart.

If you and I combine our forces, we can perhaps buy an original carded version just to dissect it and expose the truth behind this bootleg

Of course, whichever of us is still alive will enherit the figure   Deal?

Thx LJ, the card is definitely not the same, it's way glossier and darker than other legit Chinese cards.. and I'm 100% sure that the quality of the figure is not the same either.. but the logo looks cool though  ;D

There is one sure fire way to tell it's a bootleg.  Check the Hasbro emblem at the bottom of the package.  The dumbass that made the packaging screwed it up by spelling it as "Hrsbro".

And I have been collecting international figures for over a decade.  This figure is not common and a authentic one is hard to find.  So if the seller has sold 21 of them, and has more to sell, then all signs point to a fake.

This is a fake.
