Title: Montreal at CND Joe meet
Post by: Scramble on February 14, 2006, 10:50:51 AM
As per Mike's suggestion, let's talk about our Hamilton invasion.

Tina (Tank Girl) and I are driving down together on Friday. Not to be anti-social, but roadtrips are part of our couple identity. We like to travel just the two of us.

Anyone else interested in going down, Avis rents cars for about $300 bucks for a weekend. If the car is four-people full (make sure you get enough trunk-space for four suitcases), that's about $75 a person. You can find reasonable hotel in Hamilton that will cost you all less than $100 bucks a night (assuming two people per room).

So first let's ask who would be interested in making the trip, and then we'll work out logistics. Mention if you can drive.

I'd LOVE to go (I just don't get out often enough...), so I'm in all the way.
I don't have a driver's liscence, but I can help navigate. Someone just needs to remind me to bring my glasses so I can see the signs. :P

Maple,

Good to see you back on the boards. There's a Forum (http://http://www.joecanuck.com/joe/board/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=37)dedicated to this year's Meet. Before you open a thread, make sure it relates to the 2006 Meet, though.

Herre's a copy of the info from Mike's thread.

Quote from: ""BHT""
When:
Saturday, April 8th
From 1:00pm to whenever people go home! (11pm is the latest)

Where:
Sherwood Bowling Center (across the street from Bounty Hunter Toys)
The event takes place in Banquet hall downstairs.

For a map on how to reach the location, please goto:
http://www.bountyhuntertoys.com/miva/me ... ry_Code=SI (http://www.bountyhuntertoys.com/miva/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=SI)
And go directly across the street! You're welcome to park at Bounty Hunter Toys for the day.

Admission:
There will be an admission of $5.00 per person. With your admission, you will be given one 'ballot' ticket to be entered in an 'exclusive' draw at the meet. (Additional tickets will also be available).

Exclusive:
There WILL be an exclusive figure for the meet this year.
While I don't have the final figure in my hands yet, I can assure you that the few who know about it thinks it looks great!
The cost for the figure will be $20.00. He will include accessories, a file card, and will also include your admission to the meet!
I will post more information on it in it's 'own' thread soon.

Features Of The Meet:

G.I. Joe : TCG
There will be a few tables set up for those interested in playing the G.I. Joe card game. I'm looking for someone to 'oversee' it. Email or PM me if you'd like to help.

G.I. Joe: Rasslin'
Since it was such a huge in the last few years, G.I. Joe will battle Cobra in the wrestling ring once again! I made all the characters last year. I don't have time to make 30 of them this year, so hopefully some of our fellow PS2-inites get some done. We should have two PS2 systems, and 2 monitors to play on once again. PLEASE bring your OWN PS2 controller. We'll have a few extras on hand, but there may not be enough to cover everyone! If you'd like to 'create' some Joes or Cobras, please PM me.

Dealers:
There will be Joes for sale once again at the meet. You'll of course have the chance to purchase from BHT by going across the street, but now you'll have the option to check out what your fellow JoeCanucks have to offer as well! There's not many dealers set up at the meets, but 'we' seem to like it that way. That's what makes the Canadian Joe Meet such a unique event. It's NOT a toy show - just a place for Joe Fans to get together and enjoy G.I. Joe for the day! If you would like to 'set up' a table at the Meet, please email@joecanuck.com (http://mailto:email@joecanuck.com) if interested in renting a table for the day.

Food / Drink:
If you get hungry, or wish to have a drink, there will be food on hand to purchase. We had free pizza one year, and while that is not an option this time, we can always order one and split the cost.

I think I've covered all basese here. If you need information on some local hotals, the only one I can think of is Airport Inn on Upper James in Hamilton. It's the closest one to the meet, and it's also the easiest one to travel to.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to post them in this thread, AND email them to me at email@joecanuck.com

Should someone else already answer it out here, I'll most likely not reply.

Thanks guys.
Mike

Not a problem there, bro. I've managed to sleep through earthquakes. You know any hotels that rent a room for cheap?

And if Fett88 reads this, do you have an itinerary planned out?

And yeah, Mike, if I can score a room and Fett88 does indeed drive us, I'll be going. I have a job all set up that I should start in a few weeks, and I don't plan on spending much (aside from Black Ice I'll probably just buy a Maggot and some custom fodder if people bring some)

Well, if there's 4 of you, and Jin and Kadarle doesn't mind sleeping in the same bed, there's Airport Inn on Upper James.

I know Scramble and Tina stayed there last year, mayeb they can speak up for how it was?

I'd say to start assuming that he's not going guys.

Haven't you guys emailed him? or PMed him?
Please tell me you've had more contact than just this thread??

I PMed him over the weekend, and again yesterday.
I don't have his email, or phone number, or anything else...
It's Thursday... Guess my presence at the con isn't going to happen after all, unless I can somehow be provided with a plane ticket. Which would REALLY work well for me, because I could attend my Japanese class Saturday morning (it's very important to me), then head to the airport and get to Ontario, and arrive maybe a few hours late to the con.

Hah. Yeah, right. That's about as likely to happen as a blue duck coming out of Bill Goldberg's behind.

Sorry for the delay guys, I ve been busy for a while.

Looks like you are right, I will not go to Hamilton because I found myself a new hobbie and it`s Kart racing. I have decided to invest all the money I had to go to Hamilton in my new hobbie. I am sorry for the inconvenien.

Not to fault you for changing hobbies, but there were people depending on you and the plans you made together. It's one thing to cancel the trip, but to give them no time to make a contingency plan isnt' very considerate.

sorry is not enough i've cancelled work just to be in the event..and not giving an earlier notice of not coming is no good...not a man of word...coz i think you stated it twice that your coming for sure...good luck on your new hobby and dont let them down!!!

I'm mad too, you could've let us know a little more ahead of time! What were you expecting, that we'd just forget that we were going to this con?

I can't go. I'm kinda pissed, but my bank account is relieved...   :shifty:

That sucks. A little more notice would have been at least fair to these folks. Now they have to miss out too because you couldn't find the time to let them know you weren't going.

Maybe this was the 'plan' all along?

Just to have a good laugh at these guys expense?

Jin,
You gave Fett88 the link to JoeCanuck. (According to Fett88's first post) - Where did you find him?
How do you know him?
Title: Montreal at CND Joe meet
Post by: Jay on April 07, 2006, 01:58:16 PM
He'd signed up over at Joecustoms a few days before showing up here. On his introductions post, he'd asked if anyone else was from Montreal, so I replied welcoming him to the forum, and mentionning myself, Scramble and some other guys (I think Madman and kadarle) as being from Montreal. I also PMed him to let him know about Joecanuck so he could get acquainted better with more Canadians. So he signed up here.
Any other correspondence I've had with him via PM was just him asking me where I bought my Joes, and me pointing out my various online sources, and Legends. That's about it. I never met him in person.

NO ONE take him up on this offer.

I see NO reason at all that you should get a 'free trip' out of this.

You've already messed up two peoples plans.

I'd hate for you to do that again under a false hope.

You screwed up, you let folks down. That's all on your shoulders.
If anything, you should be offering to drive them down for free.
Including hotel.

But since they have no reason to trust you again, I doubt anyone will take up any offer you suggest.

Trust is earned, not given away.

Once it's lost, it's nearly impossible to get back.
