It's a nice head and certainly feels like a WWII officer, but 90% black is pretty boring.

I like the whip.

I find that the original Black major stands out more as a character than his new counterpart....

I'm not impressed either...

I'm happy they have done the Shadows, yet just disappointed that they aren't in the new style.

Instead of a personal must have, I'll pass on these.

The only GIJCC set I don't have is last years, mostly because it was the new style.  And considering the club has gone back to o-ring (for at least this year), I can assume that the new style in 2009 failed for GIJCC, regardless if they re-hashed an old convention concept.

Even though they are not perfect, I have no problem with the new style.  However, I find it hard to justify playing that much coin for new style figures when other deco versions of the exact figures were sold recently at retail stores for a fraction of the cost.  If I am going to pony up that much coin, I might as well get something considered to be rare nowadays in the hobby, which is o-ring figures.

Expectations were high last year when most of the people thought we were getting the Red Shadows in o-ring style. Now we are getting them, I have to admit that I like what I'm seeing.

Red torches is a nice addition when The Black Major looks exactly what he is supposed to look. So far, I can't say the Club is making bad choices. Moreover, they are making smart (Red Shadows), coherent (Balck Major) and innovative (Torches) choice.

I can't wait to get my set!  ;D

Please keep this attitude and tell everyone! This will keep the price low on the market so I can buy myself a set

Do you really want me to sabotage its sale by speculating against the new figure  ??? I don't need to do that. I'm confident that the ones who will buy it will decide of its fate  :).

I'm still optimistic about the rest of the figures look like. I know that not beeing impressed by one figure or two is not a good enough reason not to get the set.

I kind of like the Torch figure, looks interesting, especially the head I haven't seen it anywhere.  Were the original red shadows troopers the same red as this one? My only comment is I find it a bit too saturated to the point it's almost flashy on my screen, but perhaps GIJCC is trying to match the original color palette of the vintage figures. Martin-Mtl, knowing that you own the original red shadows figure, what can you tell us about the color?

It's hard to tell because my computer screen doesn't reflect the real color. The red in the pic I saw looks, like you said, i little bit flashy.

But Cobra troops already have different shade of blue (starting with Cobra commander light blue and darker blue outfit). So I don't really bother with this red .
