Title: Ask Hasbro your questions, Jan 2010 edition!
Post by: Stealth Viper on December 28, 2009, 12:03:10 PM
Once again it's that time. Ask Hasbro your questions.

Question submissions will be open until new year's eve, at which point voting will begin for the 3 questions to be submitted.

Ask away, and let's try to ask questions that aren't easily answered with the standard "press release" type statements!

Sorry if this has been asked already, but why are the Zellers releases of the Target-exclusives so ridiculously overpriced?  I don't just mean the RHINO, either.  $30 for a figure and small vehicle?  That's more than an Alpha vehicle.  I hate to sound ungrateful, but the high prices are really unreasonable, and every Zellers I visit has the pegs filled with the Target $30 vehicle packs, which are understandably not moving.

1) The cardboard dioramas that come in multipacks rock! Is there any way to have the designs and building instructions available on Hasbro's website, for those who missed out on the sets or could not afford them?

2) Considering the success of Lego Star Wars, Lego Indiana Jones, Mega Bloks Spider-Man and Mega Bloks HALO, has Hasbro given any consideration to reviving the Built To Rule toyline, using smaller figurines instead of regular Joe figures with brick connectors on their limbs?

3) With Pursuit of Cobra, two of the four environments feature a notable specialist of said environment, Snow Job for Arctic Threat and Recondo for Jungle Assault. Will the Desert Battle and City Strike environments feature such specialists, like Dusty and Shock(wave)blast?

4) During the last Q&A, you said Pursuit Of Cobra would show up in "the back half of 2010". Does this mean we'll be without new G.I.Joe figures until June 2010?

5) What kind of guidelines must be followed for certain items (ie: The Geonosis Arena being used for the Conquest on Cobra Mountain) to be used in another brand?

6) Why was the Mantis Attack Craft's stock photography edited with two sets of controls to look like a two-seater, when the toy itself only has one set of controls and can only fit one figure?

7) At one point Hasbro planned to make a different Scrap-Iron using parts that made him ressemble the original a lot more (Shipwreck torso, Airborne arms and legs), with very positive response from fans. Why was this tooling not chosen over the Comic Pack version for either of his Rise of Cobra redecos?

My suggestion for this round - All questions be 5 words or less.

Examples:

What are YOU excited about?

What work influences you?

Any playsets in the future?

Anything that requires 2-5 sentences tends to be a comment not question, and we tend to get better answers from the short open ended ones.

Will the Wal~Mart exclusive Battle Stations be sold in Canada?

Will the 2010 mainline include battle stations/playsets (large or small)?

What sort of commitment to G.I. Joe have Canadian retailers made for 2010?  Will it be similar to what we saw in 2009 with the movie line where we had just about everything available, or will it be scaled back like the 25th anniversary line (where we only saw a few things in limited quantities)?

Will G.I. Joe Mighty Muggs continue in 2010?

Will the following be sold in Canada:
- Wal-Mart exclusive battlestations?
- TRU exclusive ROC SRO 3-packs?
- TRU exclusive ROC Firefly & BBQ?
- waves 4 & 5 of the ROC single line in a more wide distribution than we've managed to find thus far?

If the answer is no, the followup question is:

Does Hasbro understand how frustrating it is for their customers and collectors to not be able to BUY something they produce and sell?

Actually, I'd make that it's own question - mind you, they'll most likely direct you to HTS.

The answer will be something along the lines of:

"The product is made available to the retailers, it is up to them to order"

AKA - If the stuff on the shelves doesn't move, the retailers won't order more. Hasbro can't just arbitrarily ship them stuff.

Before you ask your questions, think of it like this. We are a waiter at a restaurant. Hasbro is a customer. The information we want is a salad. How do we tell Hasbro to order a salad in the form of a question?

"Obviously you should order a salad"

So many questions use the word obviously. This turns the question into a judgment. Hasbro isn't going to order a salad from a waiter they feel is judging them.

"If you order a salad, your bill will be higher and 15% of a bigger bill is a bigger tip."

Believe it or not, this shouldn't be about us. Hasbro is using this as a promotional tool. Telling them how much we liked Footloose the way he was in 1985 doesn't actually matter.

"For the last time, order a salad?"

Try to keep up on questions that have already been asked. And a question is more than a statement ending in a question mark. Finally, getting aggressive has proven in every single Q&A round to be the best way to get a useless answer.

You know the best way to get someone to order a salad? Just smile and ask "Would you like a salad?" Let their imagination run wild. Give them room to answer the question.

I think I get it, how about this:

Are you looking for ways to put more battle stations and play sets in the the line for 2010?  How about one with a side salad?

Today, what can Hasbro comment on the feasibility of a Rocky Balboa action figure within the Gi joe line?

This can't happen as Jakks has the rights to the Rocky property.

Aw Shucks, forgot all about Jakks. Perhaps I can update my question in a way that Hasbro can still answer:

Today, what can Hasbro comment on the feasibility of action figures based on the likeness and personalities of real celebrities  (not linked to the gi joe movie franchise)?

1. Are there any unique vehicles or playsets planned for 2010?
2. Are there any specific plans that would be of interest to Canadian collectors?

How could I forget.  My question from the other thread I started in this sub-forum:

When can we expect to see a new Cover Girl aka Agent Courtney Krieger in ARAH classic style to complete our 25th anni collection?
