Hey Pete, you like to army build in bulk. Take a look at this auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/G-I-JOE-Lot-of-155- ... 6063746534

Right now it's 155 Range vipers for $75.00 (USD), looks like no weapons.

Come to think of it, that's a great Viper to army build. It's from a year that Joe was still selling high volumes, was redone in better colours in 2000, and its weapons have been reissued a thousand times since. There's no big demand for original Range Vipers anymore. I'll bet he got them all reasonably cheap. Course if he sells them all for $75, he's probably taking a loss. But that's what you get when you put up auctions while the community's pockets are tight to afford the con sets.

Isn't this the same seller who sold 103 cobra commanders a short time ago? I don't think he's taking a loss for selling those range vipers. He's one of the sellers from china that sell tons of joe stuff in lots. He also sells those cyber vipers, desert scorpions, etc. in lots from time to time. Where the heck do they all of a sudden find these figs?

What freaks me out is the amount of figures these individuals keep coming up with. When these figures were widely available we didn't see much of them coming out from china, but a few years have passed and all of a sudden now we keep seeing lots of 5 sub vipers, lampreys, laser vipers v2, vipers, shock vipers (for example) every 5 days or so. Also, there are other sellers doing the same and they've been doing it for quite some time, so it makes me wonder where these figs have been all this time and how many "extra" were produced. Are they "midnight" figures that have been reproduced recently during "off hours".

The figures are useless IMO without his accessories.  Plus I rather divert my funds into getting vehicles that I have put off.

Same here. A whole bunch of weaponless Range Vipers isn't impressive. Those figures are so underwhelming you can get them dirt cheap anyway. I can't see much interest in a sea of bright blue and yellow wilderness troopers. No thanks, I'll keep picking up vehicles.

I think 150 of any army builder looks impressive, weapons or not. Actually the whole fun of winning this auction would be to find weapons to arm these guys with. After all range vipers are supposed to be self sufficient and use whatever they can get their hands on so having them all armed with different weapon assortments would be really cool. The winner of this auction got a great deal in the end. It's amazing the kind of deals you can find on E-Bay during con season.

It depends on the type of troop for me.  Cobra Soldiers, Crimson Guards and Vipers will always be the back bone of my army.  Range Vipers are just specialists and hence I really don't need 150 of them.  As for trying to outfit them with other accessories, unless you have 150 guns to spare, it will cost you at least a buck per accessory.  I thought off doing this with Marauder guns for the Cobra Infantry six packs I got.  But that alone would cost me over 200 bucks to retrofit.

The winner of the auction did a deal as the Joe convention may have had an impact.  I know it helped me get White Mortal last year.  And people are selling stuff to raise money for the convention.  It's just an opportunity to take advantage off.
