Submitting pictures - Need some feedback
« on: October 03, 2006, 10:18:46 AM »

I have re-started the process of submitting my international figure pictures to Jon of JoeIndex.  The thing that has bugged me about yojoe.com is the pile of crappy pictures taken.  I refuse to following this trend or submit my pictures to a profit site.

But here is what I need feedback on.  Two figures are depicted below (one is Letal and one is Snake Eyes).  The background for Letal is photoshopped out.  It isn't for Snake Eyes.  Notice the difference.  With my camera settings, this is the only way I can ensure what your seeing is the exact shade of colour (or 99%).

So what should I do?  Do people like the clean look of the Letal pictures or the greyish white background of Snake Eyes.  I know to some people, they don't care.  But this has been a thorn on my side because I tend to be anal on stuff like this.

I like the look of Letal but the Snake Eyes doesn't look bad either. The question is how long does it take you to photoshop out the background? If it's a quick job then I'd say do it to all of them. If it takes a lot of time then I'd say don't worry about it.

Time really isn't a issue provided if the figure is spread out.  For some shades of grey, I have to photoshop the hard way and go all the way around those areas.  My problem is pain.  My right hand acts up when using photoshop.

I will edit Snake Eyes later to see how long it takes and whether my hand is fine.

I'd honestly say that either is fine Pete, so long as there is consistancy with each photo. That's one this that drives me nuts about sites - when they have different backgrounds for every photo.

Personally, i'd take the route that involves less time so i go for grey. ;)

I think the photoshoped background is more appealing, cleaner. But knowing it brings you pain, I can accept a little grey.

Jon prefers the photoshop.  So that is the route I am going to take. I am just going to have to pace myself.

And after comparing Letal to the one archived at yojoe

http://www.yojoe.com/action/int/br-letal.shtml

man, I prefer my photos of the figure as it's 99% close to what the figure really looks like.

I have to say I actually like the grey back ground - the photoshop version appears to stark and to high in contrast - but compared to the ones on YoJoe - er uh... are they the same figure or was there a colour variant?

Just to add to this, I have Pete's pics up.

Here's the Letal as he submitted them with his PS work - Letal

And here's two that I touched up before adding:

Snake Eyes - blue & gold

Cobra - this one came out really nice, I love the way this figure looks. I really want one of these guys now.

Have the rest of his submissions up as well, just head to the main page to see all of them and the vehicles that were added. The MSV pics will be updated soon.

And the images look high in contrast, but really they're just closer to what the true colors are/ should be. I know I try to use natural light when I take pics because it brings out the true colors as opposed to taking them in doors with artificial light.

Same figure but taken years ago with a crappier camera.  The Letal is a bright figure to begin with.

And Jon's editting for the background is what I was hoping for.   I am with Shane in that I want to see all the pictures on a site to be pretty much the same as if one person did the whole thing.

And the International invasion has been begun from my end.  May no collector, man or elf get in my way Cobra..................
