General Joe Talk / Re: Ever been embarrassed by your hobby?

I have never once been ashamed or scared to admit that I collect, and like toys.

If you feel the need to hide it, then you're in the wrong hobby.

I don't really feel the need to hide it, and like I said, the girl did nothing to make me uncomfortable, but I just wish Hasbro had sent them in plain boxes :)  Kinda like if I had gotten a box delivered to the office with HUSTLER stamped all over it, well, you know, I really don't care what you think, but uh, yeah.  I'm gonna go now.

And Ian/Recon, your post was spot-on.  If I had all my toys still in their boxes, I'd be a VERY rich man.  But then I wouldn't have had anywhere near as much fun.  When I have kids, we're opening everything.  But kiddo, if you touch the SkyStriker, I'll have your rear end  ;D

General Joe Talk / Ever been embarrassed by your hobby?

Considering that most of you folks on here are guys who grew up with GI Joe from the 80s and still collect them in adulthood...do any of you ever get embarrassed by your hobby?  You know, funny looks from a hot girl or a MILF while you walked out of the toy aisle with an armload of Joes?

Usually I could give half a crap about what anyone else things about me or my hobby, but I do remember one embarrassing incident.  I live in an apartment complex, and the mailboxes are really small.  If UPS/FedEx/the Post Office brings you a package, they will leave a note in your mailbox and leave the package in the office.

I got one of the notes one day, which meant that my mail-away Docs were here!  Excited, I took the slip into the office.  The girl at the desk, probably by design, was incredibly smoking hot and I had chatted her up a few times.  So she opens the closet to get my Docs, and comes out with the bright white mailer boxes with the GI Joe logo emblazoned across them.  She didn't say anything or even give me a funny look, but I was still kinda embarrassed.

"Real, real smooth," I thought to myself.  I mean, what was I gonna say, "So, when you get off you wanna come play with my Doc?"  Might get arrested for that one...

General Joe Talk / Re: Do collectors hate 12" Joes?
« on: August 10, 2009, 11:21:02 PM »
I started out on the 3 3/4" Joes just about like everyone else on here.  I only had a few of the 12" guys when they started coming out.  I remember I was very excited to find the 12" ARAH Snake Eyes at TRU back in the day.  I know everyone's sick of Snake Eyes, and the 1991 version is probably FAR from the most popular one...but I loved that version of Snake Eyes.  Probably because it took me FOREVER to find him, but I was really, really pumped when I finally did.

I did have a lot of fun with 12" Snake Eyes and Cobra Commander.

General Joe Talk / Re: Saw the movie

I felt the computer graphics looks a little unfinished and sometimes it bumped me out of the story but it was easy enough to get back in to it. I hope they make toys of the SHARC's because they looked pretty awesome.

But I told myself that I didn't buy the Fatal Fluffies back in the day and I still watch and enjoy that Joe movie anyway. Actually once I put it in that perspective I was able to enjoy movie.

I forgot to mention the computer graphics.  They look like early 2000's computer graphics in several spots.  I guess Paramount didn't want to spring for ILM to do the effects for this one...I always thought Transformers kind of set the new standard for computer graphics, and I wish ROC's would have at least been up to those.

And my one other complaint is that you have to look really, really hard to see Larry Hama's cameo.  If I hadn't seen a special that showed him during the filming of the scene I wouldn't have caught him.  They should have let the Father of Modern GI Joe walk up and shake hands and maybe have a few words with Hawk or something.

And LMAO at the Fatal Fluffies.  Those things were terrible.

Saw it today myself.  I have a few impressions...which I will try to relay without throwing out any major spoilers.

The brother/fiancee thing DID seem contrived and unwieldy.  I didn't quite buy the "Nanites can do anything" angle either.

While the grand plan behind everything was plausible, I agree that the bases for both Joe and Cobra were flat ridiculous.  While I could see GI Joe EVENTUALLY growing into the force they show in the movie, I figured it was going to be a small, growing force.  While the multi-national aspect was cool and somewhat expected (especially considering how at the end of the ARAH line GI Joe had members from just about everywhere) I don't buy the Pit being in Egypt.

As for the actors, I really like Dennis Quaid as Hawk.  For that matter, I liked him in The Alamo as Sam Houston.  So, Mr. Quaid, you have now played my two favorite generals (real and fictional).  You just need Washington to complete the Trifecta.  Sienna Miller did a great job as the Baroness, a perfect mix of sexy and evil.  Didn't buy what happened to her at the end.  Rachel Nichols is smoking hot, but needed more character development.  I've always liked Chris Eccleston but I think he should have played Destro more like his character from Gone in 60.  Ray Park is an amazing martial artist and acrobat, and Lee Byeong-heon did an excellent Storm Shadow.

All in all I was thoroughly entertained and hope the movie does well but I just have one request to Paramount for the sequels.

For God's sake, PLEASE get rid of that stupid, idiotic, goofy !@#$ing molded mouth on Snake-Eyes!  It annoyed me every time I saw it!

Customs / A Custom I Would Love to See
« on: August 05, 2009, 11:22:49 PM »
Looking at the TRU exclusive ROC Firefly, I had one heck of an idea.  Unfortunately I do not possess the skills to see this idea come to fruition, but I'm sure there's someone out there who does.

I'd love to see someone take the TRU Firefly...and make a custom JoeCanuck out of it.  That figure would be just about perfect...all he needs is a stocking cap!

I'd pay for that one.

Hey Airborne Rigger I'd be happy to help you out but I have no experience with the Combat Heroes line, so let me know what the products are you're looking for and if I can find them down here in TX (there's a LOT of combat heroes on the shelves still) I'll gladly get them for you and only charge you retail price (copy of receipt sent to you if desired) plus whatever shipping to you would be.

But, I see plenty of rear-drive overcompensator sports cars on the road.

Are you saying I'm overcompensating for something? ???  ;D  Down here, the overcompensators drive enormous trucks with 33 to 44 inch tires with booming soundsystems that get about 10 miles per gallon.

Don't worry, I'm not offended.  I flat love my car, as it has 115,000 miles on it, and the only two problems I've had were 1. a bad alternator and 2. a destroyed third-gear synchronizer.  That I destroyed doing a rowdy burnout.  And I do not treat the thing nice.  Its reached well over 100 mph on deserted backroads many times, and the throttle gets matted at least once a day.  Plus, even with all the added power, I can STILL get 24 miles per gallon on the highway.  The city, with my driving...well that's another story  ;D

So just exactly what do you guys tool around in up north?  I know you don't have the benefit of it very rarely freezing, so a rear-drive overpowered sports car year-round is probably out of the question.

Me, I'm a die-hard Ford man.  My baby is a 2002 Mustang GT.  I've put a lot of $ and a lot of work into it, and everything short of the exhaust and the gears either I've put on myself or with the help of my buddies.  It's got headers, an x-pipe, SLP catback exhaust, K&N cold air, a 75mm throttle body, a Professional Products upper plenum & Typhoon intake manifold, underdrive pulleys, 3.73 gears, MSD coil packs, a Tri-Ax shirfter, & a SCT Livewire programmer.  I'm pushing 350-375 horses, and I left it looking bone-stock on purpose, because it sure is funny to see the look on a new Mustang GT or an LS1 Camaro owner's face when they try to mess with me and I kick their butts!

General Joe Talk / Re: Did some Joe shopping today...

One thing I noticed about the black CLAW with the repainted AVAC.  The thing came absolutely LOADED with missiles.  Four long missiles, either one or two big bombs, and even four of the small missiles that came with the 25th CLAW.  Which both made me happy and annoyed me.  I was happy because buy one of these ROC CLAWs, repaint the missiles black (they're purple) and your 25th CLAWs can finally be fully armed and outfitted, including the one from your "Best of the 80's" DVD pack that came with jack diddly (assuming you were lucky enough to find one of these sets in the first place).

I was annoyed because Hasbro included all that crap for $9.99 in the ROC line, but they couldn't include two measly extra missiles with the 25th line?  Yup, those Target exclusives are only $9.99.  AND all of the figures in these Target exclusive lines come with both weapons AND a figure stand.  My Eel has his helmet, backpack, flippers, both knives, and his gun.  But they can't include a friggin' pistol and a stand in the $16 Alpha line OR the $20-25 Bravo line?  Gimme a break.  And it's not like all our initial ROC complaining made 'em listen, because they would have had to finalize production on these sets a long time ago.
