Off Topic / Canadian Questions
« on: July 29, 2009, 10:04:08 PM »
Being new to the site I can't help but wonder how it is for my Joe-loving brothers up in Canada.

The first question may seem like an odd one.  What time of year (and how long of a season do you have) to paint outdoors?  And where do you get your paint from?  The reason I ask is because I work for Sherwin-Williams, and I'm mostly curious.  Even though several of our paints can be applied all the way down to 35 degrees Farenheit, it still takes em like 24 hours to dry at that temperature...and it better not get any colder than 35 until they dry!

Second, I can't help but be curious about gun laws in Canada.  How restrictive is the legislation?  How easy is it to buy one?  How many hoops do you have to jump through to go hunting?

Of course, Texas is one of the most liberal states as far as gun control laws, and fortunately they are trying to make them more liberal all the time.  If someone's breaking into your house and stealing your stuff or threatening you or your family, you can cap 'em.  Also, it's now legal to keep one in your car here, as it's considered part of the "Castle Doctrine."  Previously there were some places you couldn't take your gun even if you had a concealed carry license (mostly government buildings) but I think either that's no longer the case or it will be changed soon.

Last but not least, any of you have any cool guns?  I don't...yet.  I want to get a Springfield XD in .45, an AR-15, and some kind of shotgun before all is said and done with me...

General Joe Talk / Re: New Seven Packs Up For Pre-order!
« on: July 29, 2009, 09:31:55 PM »
Got my 7-packs last week from BigBadToyStore.  Love 'em, especially Zap, Recondo, Lampreys, Range Viper, and the Alley Viper.

I get annoyed sometimes because we're so far south that it takes us a while to get new releases.  And then I think about a lot of you poor guys in the Great White North who have to wait ages, if ever, for new figures and exclusives, and I don't feel so annoyed anymore...

General Joe Talk / Re: TRU U.S. BBQ and Firefly
« on: July 29, 2009, 09:29:07 PM »
I was at the TRU here in Corpus today and they probably had 20 BBQs and 20 Fireflys each.  I almost bought Firefly, but then I found Elite-Viper and Gen. Hawk.

So at least these guys probably won't be rare.

But yeah, FF looked pretty cool.

Introductions / New Member From TX!
« on: July 28, 2009, 11:27:08 PM »
Hello, Canucks.  New member to the board here from WAY down in South Texas.  Corpus Christi, to be exact.  I am in fact the very same poor sucker that passed on the $25 Flagg you read about in the June newsletter (all condolences accepted, and all ridicule directed my way is well deserved).

Despite that one glaring error in judgement, I am an enormous GI Joe fan with a pretty big collection.  Unfortunately most of it is in storage, so I don't even remember what all I have!  The 25th Anniversary Line inspired me to fill some holes in my collection, so I now have a SkyStriker, Tomahawk, Mauler, and several other must-haves that I missed out on back in the day.  Some I had to fix, some I had to piece together, and some I just had to clean up and give some new stickers (with a friendly wave to J Ruben).  And I've loved every second of it and fallen in love with GI Joe all over again.

The awesome toys of our childhood can certainly take us back, and I look back on my toys with pure joy, because they gave me so many hours of entertainment.  Some even helped me make some longtime friends!  And I hope that now I will make some new Canadian friends!

So to one and all...YO JOE!
