Hello again! :)
De-lurking for a bit to say hi and to start planning what has become a tradition for the con, a new GIJoe costume put together.
Last year I went as Dusty, the year before it was a poll and I ended up going as Beach-Head and Shipwreck, and of course the tradition all started with my Snake-eyes outfit back in 2008.
I have one new costume set to debut this year, I just need to pick up an article of clothing to complete a well known Joe character. Yes, I am a tease, gonna have to wait until I show up to find out what it is ;)
So, that said, is there anything in particular y'all want to see me try out or is one costume enough? :P
Cheers :)
EDIT - slight changes going on, see next page(s) for updates.
-
Personally, I'd be thrilled if anyone showed up as any of the CanJoeCon characters!

I don't think I will look good as the Ice Queen? ::)

Prolly not in the works as I'd prefer to at least stick to canon characters. Also did you check my PM?
-
How about a Chrome Snake?
-
I don't think I will look good as the Ice Queen? ::)
The Ice Queen isn't a CanJoeCon character however. ;)
-
one is good unless u go as the srg.
-
i'd like to see someone as Joe Canuck...

I totally agree: Joecanuck!!!
-
SID: How about a Firefly version 1 costume?
Very possible, but I am hinky on the thought of going as a saboteur who specializes in explosions with IEDs and the like...

How about Wild Bill? Then bring 5 other people dressed as Keelhaul, Law, Spirit, Torch and Tollbooth.
The Joe equivalent of the Village People.

It's not right that you haven't gone as Flint yet.

In all seriousness SID, these would be my top choices (in no specific order).
Flint (but only if you shave the goatee)
Zartan
Major Bludd
Mutt (yeah, I know... no Junkyard)
Storm Shadow
Crimson Guard
Cobra Solder
-
I am there with Flint.
-
Hint: For the costume I have planned already I will be clean shaven :o
Then I grow it back on for my Jayne Cobb costume about a month later when I meet Adam Baldwin ;)
Flint is a possibility, only thing I'd really need for that would be shoty shells and attached to chest webbing.
I've already done Storm Shadow, waaaay back in 2003, check the video for some LOLs, it also won best presentation award that year:
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Dl11HCsg0M (http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Dl11HCsg0M))
Hmmm, Zartan... I have a compound bow and if there is a mini dish that can be found in my travels to recreate his audio enhancer (re: assassination of Hard Master) then All I have to do is design his body armour from scratch :P ...
Cobra Soldier/Bludd are only stymied because I don't have the cash to fork out for an appropriate helmet... truth told I prefer not to use them for a variety of reasons ;)
-
Life has hit me with a few curveballs like usual and I won't be able to devote as much time as one would like to my costuming efforts, but trust me this is a good thing.
I'm only going to have 1 new costume this year. But again it will be a new costume and added to the prior clues I let loose I think the answer should come fairly easy with the posting of a photo of an element to the outfit.
(http://http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b331/neoengel/Canadian%20Joe%20Convention%202011/canjoecon2011-costumeclue-pants.jpg) Sorry for size, mods/admin please feel free to edit.
So yeah let the guessing begin. I now have all the pieces I need to pull off the outfit thanks to a $5 find at Value Village during their 50% off day today :P
-
Mmmm, Cobra trooper maybe?
-
Nope.
Recapping a previous clue I'm going as a well known Joe from the original 80's run, I'll narrow it down: between 1982-1989

Sid, when you say "Joe" do you actually mean you'll go as a good guy? When I see that shirt, all I can think of is Firefly...
EDIT: BTW, +3 Timbits for the fact you've been dressing up these past years, and I never gave you a single Timbit for that!
-
I would guess Chuckles... but he wears a Hawiaiian shirt, right?
-
I thought those were pants.
-
I thought those were pants.
WOW, they are pants... +1 for Morg, and + 1 to SID for tricking us...

LOL, that photo tricked me good. Pants it is now ;D
-
Yes they are pants, Propper (TM) brand ripstop slate/dark grey.
Yes I will be going as a Carded character.
Yes it is a member of the Joe Team.
I have been very particular about the colour matching to be as close to the figure and cartoon/comic depiction as mush as economically and logistical feasible.
Thanks y'all for the timbits and regards :)
-
It's not right that you haven't gone as Flint yet.
I tried that in 2003...

-
why's Beach Head carrying a USCM Pulse Rifle?
-
Because that's the only rifle I had handy at the time and I'm a member of ColonialMarines.ca (http://http://ColonialMarines.ca) ;)
-
Psyche-Out? ;D
He's a well established character ya know!
-
im voting for night force outback ;D
-
i think it is grunt or breaker.
-
zap
-
With those pants, I'm guessing for Shockwave...
-
Heh, if I took a timbit for every wrong answer so far I'd have plenty of them :P
Good guesses so far but no dice.
Recapping which character I'm recreating:
He's part of the Joe Team, seen in the 80's Marvel comic run along with the Sunbow cartoon.
... also ...
Was a figure available in stores, originally released sometime in the 80's.
-
Its got to be sneek peak!
-
Nope :)
-
Gung-Ho?
-
Nope.
Might consider it if I work out a bit more and shave my head ;)
-
night force shockwave?

Low light? with pockets???
Ding Ding Ding...
Ladies and Gentlemen
[move:2dm2548d]We HAVE A WINNER ! ;D[/move:2dm2548d]
Congratulations Propergrounds, you win a non-existent No-Prize :P
I just had a chance to checkup now and see that the winning response was given, I am costuming as Low Light :)
The colour of the pants themselves were the clue, hard to find stuff in my size so I just went with the bdu's I have already thinking they'd be appropriate for the outfit.
Though there might be some minor deviations, the outfit will be instantly recognizable from the other end of the dealers room.
I was inspired by the recent feature on the new figure and will be attempting an amalgam of the original depiction and the new one, going so far as to have purchased a sheet of clear red plastic (for lighting filters) to augment the goggles.
I'll post updates with the outfit as time permits.
This is fun, thanks all for playing along and congrats again to our winner :)
-
WOO HOO!!!!!
I AM THE CHAMPION OF NOTHING!!!!!
I AM OFF TO CELEBRATE WITH A BOTTLE OF C.C.
-
It was a game ???
And we were playing it all along ???
And the prize was nothing ??? No fair! I would've liked to win that non existing no prize :P
-
Had a chance or two to work on some parts of the outfit.
One of the most challenging parts to accomplish for this costume was the properly coloured red tint goggles that Low Light wears. Somehow I managed to find CF goggles with removable ballistic lens for $15 :O Something I can use anyway, so I grabbed them and added some red light filter gel cut to size and fit behind the lens.
The red stuff below the goggles is some of the red gel - it's the same material that used to be used to red the tech specs of the original Transformers toys.
So, the rifle... I wanted to find a fair balance between realism vs. safety/size & weight issues.
I figured the best route to take would be to use my NERF LongShot, but with added parts, notablly the LongStrike barrel and the Recon target spotter underneath for kicks and giggles. I wanted to add a larger scope but will just use the one that came with the LongShot.
Next up, digging up the knee and elbow pads, then a test run of the outfit :)
-
Its got to be sneek peak!
Who want's to dress up as Sneak Peak?
-
It's more or less the same coloured uniform but who the heck wants to carry around a giant periscope around the show :P
The main difference with my Low Light outfit in progress is that my vest is black, but the rest of the costume is as best a match as possible to the original figure.
Last year I wore a helmet and extra fabric for the Dusty costume and sweated my [censored ;)] off, this year I'll have to put up with a beanie cap :P
-
Slight update again...
I hope to still make it, but my outfit won't be as accurate as I wished because the goatee is staying on, oh well :P
However, there is the potential that I'll be bringing 2 Joe costumes as well possibly a creation I'm working on for the 'oh wow that's kinda cool factor'.
Off to bed, pulling double assignments this week... ;)
-
it was cool meeting you yesterday can i get your email yesterday so i can send you the pictures as i had lost the one you give me.
