I HATE it when comic companies kill off major characters. To me it's all about shock value and that wears off way to fast. Cobra Commander should never die. I still remember issue 100 "I'm back!" Hopefully he's just in a coma or something.

I lost all respect for Marvel when they killed of Captain America. Kill of minor characters if you have to. I loved the New Warriors and they killed off Night Thrasher and destroyed that team but I let that slide because they were not center pieces of the main Marvel universe. Captain America is a center piece, just like Cobra Commander.

If Cobra Commander is truly dead then I say end the series in less then 12 issues and finally have the good guys win.

Only 12 issues in they decide to kill off the Commander and go to Civil War? Didn't the Marvel or DDP runs teach the powers that be anything?

I am a huge Joe comics fan but honestly, due to price point, I've given up buying individual issues. I'm now only buying Trades so it'll be a while before I read this story or anything leading up to it.

I could look this up, but this mean most of the other series will stop?

IDW Joe continuity is confusing.  It seems we have about 4 timelines - all over the place.

The issue was truly awesome though!

According to the article, all lines will stop and then be rebooted. The titles will be: GI Joe, Cobra, and Snake Eyes. The Joe & SE titles will tackle their battles with Cobra while Cobra will drop Chuckle's POV and now focus on who will be the next Commander. As I read it, they'll all be part of the same timeline.

I agree that the current, ending era of books was confusing. I really liked the extensions of Rise of Cobra that they did. I enjoyed that Origins and the on-going finally merged. I have no idea where Hearts & Minds fit in but it was enjoyable. Didn't buy Noir but will when it's collected in Trade. The one shots, like Helix, were good but often seemed to be out of sequence/serial with the other stories until much later. I like Helix - hope they use her more.

And I am enjoying Hama's new continuation of ARAH. Looking forward to the first collected Trade (although I already have all the issues already).

I assume so although that is never mentioned. It is separate from everything else IDW established so that is where my assumption comes from.

Brian Truitt - the writer behind the new IDW Cobra Civil War news has confirmed via Twitter that the new ARAH will continue as it is out of continuity with the rest of the IDW titles.

I know I'm going off topic wasn't Captain America replaced by Bucky / Winter Soldier or something like that? If Steve Rogers is back, then how?

Never mind. I looked it up. Man comics are confusing and i use to work in a comic shop!

same way Bruce Wayne came back, he wasn't really dead!

same as like 90% of comic resurrections. 'oh, i wasn't really dead! someone beamed me off that crashing asteroid/a godlike entity placed me in a healing coccoon and impersonated me/i got captured by the Russkies and turned into their brainwashed puppet/i got replaced by 4 different copycats whilst i was recovering/i went into a ninja trance and have now recovered despite being shot 3 times at close range'

Not in this case. The book has made some root changes to what COBRA is, and who COBRA Commander is--IDW has been setting this up since the titles launched.. There are descriptions online that spell these out, and reveal that this event is genuine.

He's really dead.

GI JOE COBRA II  was a great series.  I got lucky and just finished reading all 11 issues yesterday in time for the new issue.  I think IDW went in a great direction with this series.  I am sad to see it end, but it was well planned, well executed and well paced.  I really liked the Serpentor storyline, and managing to include a Cobra-La reference that wasnt cheese.  I will hold out hope for the new direction.

OMG! Poor CC! He never gets any respect! I wonder if it is Rodney Dangerfield behind the mask?

No doubt.  That whole Captain America thing got me lol.  I was just getting back into other comic series and bought both covers for $17.50 each.  They are now like cover price if I am lucky now lol.  I will never get suckered into character death again.  They just killed off one of the Fantastic Four and I didn't even blink an eye lol.

I had every intention of checking this issue out. I really did.... but I "know" it's a gimmick... that's not me saying "I was told it's a gimmick and he'll be back"... it's just me saying that I've read comics for so long that I know everyone "major" comes back.

I say major because Candy still hasn't returned. (Poor Ripcord).

I hope so, but they have a 100 page tribute to Cobra Commander coming in April.  I found in another site that you need to read book 10 and 11 to make this book make sence.

I agree. But also of note, the way they've set up their Joe universe, Cobra Commander isn't just one guy, but a title. So, yeah, sure THIS CC is dead, and will stay dead. But A Cobra Commander will exist again at some point. So in a sense he will be back and it waters the whole impact down a bit IMO.

Overall I'm enjoying IDW's comics. Each title has its pros and cons (except the movie based ones which I had no interest in). None seem to be able to get everything right, but they each have enough that I'm still going back for more. Here's hoping "season 2" of the main title gets on track and Larry Hama moves on from the brainwave scanner goofiness soon!

Yeah CC is a title, more than a person in the series. Which is both good and bad.  IDW has a bunch of issues coming out that will focus on different Cobras and whether or not they will be the next CC.

It's funny, when I finished GI Joe: Cobra issue 11 because there was no logical way the story could have a satisfactory end without Chuckles killing Cobra Commander, I was disappointed because I never thought they would do it. I don't think it was the choice right for IDW's GI Joe as a whole, but it certainly was the right way to go with this story.

I was a little shocked when they killed Cobra Commander but I wasn't sad about it either, because they haven't developed who this Cobra Commander is.

There wasn't a connection between this Cobra Commander and the ARAH Cobra Commander who was the used car salesman, built Cobra from the ground up, and had Billy for a son.

This new Cobra Commander doesn't have a back story.  We don't know who he is.  Maybe he is just a normal guy who was running Cobra and the old CC that we know and love is waiting in the wings to take over.

Maybe Chuckles shot Cobra Commander with a "temporal time transporter" and sent Cobra Commander into the past and he has to travel through time to get back to the present... or is Steve Rogers and Bruce Wayne doing that already enough.  ;D

This is my hope. The more I mull it over, the less I like the idea of CC being killed off. However, I am interested in seeing where it goes from here.
