General Joe Talk / Ongoing Comic Series Question
« on: June 02, 2010, 12:35:49 PM »
Hey All,

I've read the first five issues of G.I. Joe, the ongoing series and love it so much I want to grab the next parts in print, preferably in TPB. Can someone please tell me how many books are covered in Vol. 1 and what issues are covered in Vol. 2?

IDW has an iPhone/iTouch app that allows you download the comics for less. In store they're $3.99 US (I found a great shop in Oakville that sells at US cover prices) but online directly from IDW you can get them $1.99. Also, if you download this free app, you can get a bunch of free comics, including the first classics issue - 29 pages. As I've said, I was so impressed with this and other G.I. series (Cobra, Origins) that I'm looking to grab the TPB now.

Cheers,
Ian

I picked up a Tiger Claw tonight which was the last of the Alpha in the Appleby Line store in Burlington. I'll try for a Desert Rockslide and a Lava Pod at the other location tomorrow. ;D Lots of the Brovo left.

For Sale or Trade / Re: Looking for 12" Joes

Just how much 12" stuff is at the convention? I'm getting into the 1:6 scale stuff. Not a Joe but I picked up DiD's Captain Miller from Saving Private Ryan. What an amazing figure. Anyway, I'd love to get some Joe 12" stuff, even repros would be cool.

More great advice. Thanks so much.  :)  I'll have to pick up another Charbroil and use the right stuff next time.

Thanks. I used Testors Enamel and it didn't give me the coverage I was hoping for. I'll definitely look into acrylics.

Customs / Charbroil

Hey,

This is the first time I tried my hand at painting. I didn't like Charbroil's gun so I worked on that and the tanks, too. Not much, but it was a lot of fun. What paint do you all prefer for these figures?

Good advice. You know, it's not like I'm afraid of conflict, far from it. But, over toys, I just couldn't do it. So, a few choice words and off I went. Sad part is that guy didn't even flinch. As if what I was saying was something he'd heard so often it just didn't bother him at all. I've always told my wife that when it comes to collectibles, I'd give something up to a kid - this guy wouldn't give it up to anyone unless it was at a profit. Really sad.

Anyway, screw him. I got into collecting the 3 3/4" with the film and I really like just poking around to see what I can find. Like tonight. Oh, and I'm getting into the comic books too. Got some on the way. Looking forward to reading them.

Ian

I went to Walmart in Burlington (Appleby Line and Dundas) where a guy threw his arms around a ton of the $8 vehicles and proclaimed he was buying them all. I don't believe in getting in a dust up over toys, so, I told him what I thought of him and walked away. This guy is not a collector or even getting a few extras for fellow collectors. He's a jerk who's looking to sell on ebay and score whatever he can. It's guys like this that give collectors a bad name. I took a trip down to the other Walmart in Burlington (Brant) and grabbed an Alpha. There was only one left, a Polar Shark. I didn't ask if they had any in the back. Both locations did have a mix of about a dozen Bravos.

Okay, rant over. Hope you're all enjoying the great summer.

Cheers,
Ian

Quote from: "Stealth Viper"
Hounding the local retailer won't help. It's the suits in the offices that decide what the chains will get.

In a nutshell, it's the suits, yes, based on previous G.I. Joe sales of similar items (one offs or special runs or wide releases). But, you missed the point. Hasbro sent these photos to you to post and start a buzz. They want that buzz to reach the retailer who will convey how many inquiries they've had for these items that may or may not be available in Canada. They'll monitor boards like this or other sites where bloggers will talk up the products. That doesn't smell right to me at all.

Hasbro are no dummies. They don't want fans of the line to call Buyers or Marketing Directors up in head office. They want to make us hungry for the product; create the need. So, I say, spend some dollars on advertising. Put their money where their toy is. And, yes, I know they will spend millions on advertising the line, I mean they should spend more.

Cheers,
Ian
