Ian, if you REALLY want to understand where GI Joe came from, pick up Classic GI Joe Vols 1-4.  They're trade paperbacks of the original Larry Hama-authored Marvel series.  I have all four and have greatly enjoyed reading them...after reading the comics, you'll wonder why the cartoon was so goofy at times (Fuzzy Wuzzies, anyone?).

Thanks for this. I've finished the first two books in the Cobra series and I have to say that I'm enjoying it...a lot. Sometimes I find comics hard to read because the blatant exposition, but there's not a lot of that going on in the GI Joe books I've read so far. I'll look for the classics. Hopefully they'll be available as downloads.

Thanks again for the recommendations.

I picked up Origins and the Movie Prequel books from the iTunes store. I enjoyed the Origins story more than the prequel. I guess since I'm new to the 3 3/4 Joe world it helped me get into the history. IDW will be publishing upcoming Origins titles for download soon. I'm looking forward to reading more.

I want to thank all those who've posted before me. With your help I'm off to pick up the Cobra series.

Cheers,
Ian

We get these from Hasbro USA, the same as all the other sites. We're just part of their distribution for marketing. It by no means implies anything regarding availability here.

Now, we have been told that all exclusives will be MADE AVAILABLE to Canadian retailers - but it's up the the retailers to order them.

So, they send Joe Canuck photos to help promote a product that will only show up in Canada if you hound your local retailer. Something doesn't smell right with that.

Ian

Hot Wheels (just the ones I really like)
A few 1:18 scale diecast (more on the way - Challengers for sure)
Batmobiles
Spider-man (lots of stuff connected to that character and others in the Marvel realm)
First edition books (not many)
Hockey cards (looking to sell that collection)
G.I. Joe (just getting started)

General Joe Talk / Re: Have any of you messed with True Heroes stuff?
« on: August 31, 2009, 01:18:15 AM »
When I was at the TRU in Oakville on Saturday, I saw that same display and I was checking out that boat, too. I'm not into customizing (though I'd love to learn - especially the painting). I concentrate on photography and that boat or chopper or even the helicopter would look great with the Joes. One of the reasons I've been interested in the 3 3/4" is for the photography. I could see a lot of amazing shots with the True Heroes stuff.

Here's an example of the stuff I shoot. These are Army Men - the little green ones in static poses.

These were too pricey at TRU. $34.99! And I still couldn't squeeze my budget for them at Zellers either. I did pick up Rockslide A.T.A.V. for under twenty at Zellers.

My recon of TRU: their figures are $9.99 but they have a lot of Snake Eyes: Ninja Commando and Storm Shadow: Ninja Merc. I picked up the Storm Shadow and a Heavy Duty. Zellers was $5 cheaper on all vehicles than TRU. Walmart's figs are $9.44.

I saw some Comic Book sets at Zellers in Burlington - one featured Snake Eyes. There were two 25th Anniversary figures - I can't remember who they were (bad recon - sorry). One had an eye patch. The other wore a football jersey.

I have to open my new toys and take some pictures now.

Cheers,
Ian

Thanks Morgardee,

Excellent information. I appreciate it. Do you know an online retailer selling the 1:6 scale figures that isn't killing Canadians on shipping? I'd like to pick up a few 12" Joes, too.

I'll drop by smalljoes.com for sure. Thanks all.

Holy shit! I just checked on a few products in their store - a four pack of ROC vehicles and a 12" AT figure. Shipping is $22 US on a $20 figure. WTF! The shipping is more the product. That is inflated so they can make a few more bucks. The vehicles cost $56.99 and the cheapest shipping is $29 US. This is a complete ripoff. So disappointing.

Ian
