Looking for the right Cobra soldier blue...
« on: July 19, 2007, 10:46:11 PM »

Hello,

I want to create a new Viper and paint it with the 1983 Cobra blue. I went to Wallmart with my 1983 Cobra soldier to match the paint. I bought FolkArt Acrylic paint #642 (Blue Ink) but turn out to be not enough "dark bue".

Do you, any custom maker specialists, have brand and colour name to match the vintage 1983 Cobra blue?

Also, should I paint with shinny paint or not?

Thanks to all.

Martin

Tamiya blue would be a close match.

I''ve been looking for years and sitll haven't found a great match. Most people that have nailed it, mix their own paint.

Sorry.

i have had some pretty sweet luck with the warhammer/citadel paints

They are a bit more expensive (about $4 each)

Regal Blue matches the Neo-viper blue pretty good

and enchanted Blue is a good match for the blue of Scap Iron

I think they are wonderfull paints to work with too
I havent' looked yet for a 'default cobra' color, just those ones

I am actually coming to montreal next week and if you'd want to check them out and compair the colors in person, that should be fine

Can I find Tamiya blue in Folkart or it's in another brand?

Tamiya is a brand.
Tour de jeux carries it and probably other hobby store.

I love Tamiya.  It's the only model paint I buy now.
I get mine from Le Tambourin in the Champlain Mall in Brossard, since it's only a 10 minute walk from my house.
