Title: Nighthawk's modern updates on vintage Joe ARAH figures
Post by: nighthawk on January 17, 2012, 01:13:07 PM
Here's my thread for my updates on vintage characters on the Joe side:

Sgt. Slaughter:

Rapid Fire:
When I hear Rapid Fire, first thing to come to mind is that green monstrosity that Hasbro gave us with the VHS tape.  Well, this one is actually based on the 12" version.  YOJOE.COM | Rapid-Fire (http://www.yojoe.com/12inch/93/rapidfire.shtml)
The grey helmet that came with Rollbar went to Sneak Peek so I gave him a protec helmet.

Duke:
I never thought I'd ever do a Duke custom...other than this minor tweak to fix his arms:

However, he's kind of outdated when you compare him to the new POC stuff.  The new POC Hawk did not scream Hawk to me.  I decided to use that as a base to make a more battle ready Duke and the POC Duke head was such a nice sculpt, I felt I had to use it somewhere.  Unfortunately, the skin tone was off from the 25th one so I give you my new battlefield Duke:

Here's another picture of the backpack.  Not the best quality picture, but gives an idea of what was done.  I cut a groove in the back frame part around the peg so it fits the contours of his webgear.

Rampart:
Here's one that's been on my to do list for a while.  I started on this one when POC Dusty first came out...yeah, it's been a WIP for a looooong time...haha.

Anyways, here you go, my modern Rampart:

That's pretty good. He looks like he would fit in with last years Joe Canuck set.

Good on ya.

Timbit coming at you.  ;)

Not sure where to put him but here's an LBC of the new Tunnel Rat.  I need some suggestions on who I can make him into as I don't want him to be Tunnel Rat.  Were there any other Asian looking Joes that were not Martial Artists?

I really like the Renegades Tunnel Rat, but I felt he needed to have a vest and a way to hold all his gear so this is what I came up with.  However, I don't really want to use him as Tunnel Rat.

Oh yeah, all his gear except his laptop is either in the backpack or just stuck into the side of his vest.  The Recondo vest actually has a hole in the side which is how I attached the stove and frying pan.  No mod was necessary.

I think one of the reasons it doesn't look that good with the backpack on is that the hole in the vest doesn't line up with the backpack hole, so the vest looks too big on him.  I took some pics without the backpack.  What do you think?  Just wanted some opinions before making the hole in the vest bigger so it can sit lower even with backpack.  Also, in person, the pouches on the vest actually very closely to his thigh pouches and the vest color matches his gloves and the light tan matches his pants...really, they do. :)

I would do 2 things to this guy. first off I would gas the head. It doesn't "fit" the body IMO. Either try Slayer Design Studio, cop a head off a Joe Vs Cobra figure or look for a decent Star Wars head and make him a new character.

Next thing I would do is minor but I'd take some goof off to the Joe star on the right shoulder of that vest. The star is too big and I find my eyes keep going back to it, distracting from the rest of what looks to be a very cool, sort of chunky figure.

I have a SDS Ambush head I've been trying to think of what to do with. Your body (with camo stripes on the pants) would make a great body for the head.

BTW, I like your Static Line in the background. Where did that head come from?

Thanks for the suggestions.  The Static Line head is just Renegades Ripcord's head with Jango Fett headset and VvV Gung Ho hat.  I'm still looking for a vintage Static Line backpack and antenna or any version of that backpack and antenna that was re-released, if anyone can help.

I had a Snow Serpent that didn't have the fur collar (used it for my Frostbite custom)

Since I had the extra hood, I decided to just make one of my Snow Serpents different and I had a dremelled out Snow Serpent helmet that I got in a trade a long time ago so I thought, hey why not...the cartoon has Snow Serpents running around without the helmet but with a cobra trooper head and helmet.  Thought it would be neat.  Here's the results.

After getting the Renegades Ripcord, I decided that I really like his gear.  Here's the original Freefall I made:

However, I'm debating if I should use Ripcord's helmet as well.  What do you guys think?  Use Ripcord's helmet or the 2 piece one I made above?

I love the new Airtight.  However, one of the things I loved about the vintage one was the hose that connects to his helmet.  So I managed to get the vintage hose and backpack and modded it onto the new backpack.

The new Falcon provided me one thing that was very useful, but useless on Falcon; his straps.  Once I saw them, I decided they were perfect for my Quick Kick.  Currently, Quick Kick's backpack magically stays on his back.  Well, now it can actually be more plausible as he now looks like he has straps from his backpack.  I also relocated the backpack peg too.  The yellow on his legs doesn't bother me so I left it as is.

So, there were 3 things I didn't like about the new Taurus:

1. Didn't like how he was always looking down (due to Recondo body)
2. Didn't like how the holster was so high so that when the gun is in it, the handle will stick into his face
3. Most importantly, hated how the kneepads prevented him from standing up straight.

Here are my fixes:

Modified his neck joint so he can look forward (still looks weird by from upfront, it's better than him looking down)

Moved the holster down lower on the webgear (realized that by just cutting the hole on the bottom of the holster to let the pistol go all the way down, it might have solved the problem...Darn!  Anyone got an extra Taurus webgear they don't need?)

Modified the knees so now he can stand straight.

I really wish the new Falcon didn't have any blue.  If he didn't have blue, I would have used the 25th webgear and gear and called it my new Falcon.  Instead, Hasbro had to give the green beret a blue one and the blue shoulder pads.  Ended up modding the new parts onto the 25th Falcon body and came up with my new Falcon.

Very simple parts and gear swap.  I know, he doesn't have a silver sigil, but I want it to be reversible, plus, Hasbro has released Cobra Officers in the past with red sigils on a few occassions so I'm ok with the red logo.

I've always liked Mirage as a kid, but didn't particularly like his colors.  Here's my updated Mirage.  I know he doesn't look anything like the vintage one, but I like how the Snake Eyes' vest looks kinda futuristic and I had that Duke body cause I got it for his vest, so rather than just throw that body aside, I thought it would look good with the Artic Duke head.  Put some goggles and then you have a Mirage head.  Simple and paintless.  (I know, I could paint the vest, but as you all know, I don't do painting) :)

I didn't like the blue and I managed to trade for a spare Zanzibar webgear.  This time, I didn't relocate the holster.  I cut a hole at the bottom so the pistol fits in lower.

Good call on the web gear. Not sold on the legs for Red Dog. They look a bit thin compared to the rest of the upper body. I should add a backpack to my Mercer as well.

All good ideas. You've inspired me to look at mine again and see what I can improve.
Title: Stretcher
Post by: nighthawk on March 23, 2012, 06:37:59 PM
I really like the new Renegades Ripcord, but he just isn't Ripcord to me. I used his HALO gear to update my Freefall so I was left with the rest of him.  Then I thought of Stretcher and how Hasbro will never make him probably.

For the walkie talkie, I debated putting it on the front like the vintage one, but decide that since he has the headset, that walkie talkie can stay on his backpack as a backup or for someone else to use.  As for the gun on his chest on the vintage one, didn't think he needed so many so the leg holster one is sufficient.

So, when I got the SRO Wild Bill, I loved how he looked and the darker colors.  The only things I didn't like were his mangled hands (due to the elastic in the packaging), his oversized holsters and his pin sized head.  After finally getting the new Wild Bill, I have a Wild Bill I can be proud of.

Anyways, on to Wild Bill:
Helmet: 21st Century Huey pilot
Hands and head: ROC Wild Bill
Holsters: Removed the holsters and trimmed them down and then reglued them back on
rest of figure: SROII Wild Bill

I also managed to get a 25th Wild Bill for $4 so I jumped on it.  I hated how his head was so small and I hate how his holsters stick out too far and the gun doesn't go in far enough.  I had an extra Dragonhawk Wild Bill head so it solved the small head problem.  For the holsters, the one above was what I wanted to do, but it took me 3 tries to get it and still it's not perfect.  This time I went the lazy route and just drilled holes in the bottom (from the inside) of his holsters so the guns go in deeper and also fit tighter so they don't fall out.  Very lazy tweak but I think it makes a world of a difference.  Let me know what you think.

The left over ROC Wild Bill parts and his vest screamed aviator to me and I was never happy with any of the Ace's released.  (the white comic pack one didn't have any flight gear cause of his space helmet and the SROII one didn't really do it for me as his upper half was just Wild Weasel).  Well, I finally have a nice pilot Ace that I'm happy with.  This is actually the Ace I have in my 2-seater F14.

Parts:
head: SROII Ace
hands: 25th Wild Bill (single pack)
leg harness: Pilot Destro
helmet and mask: BBI F-18 pilot
rest of figure: ROC Wild Bill

Ok, so this looks nothing like the vintage one, but I don't paint and I don't like cracking torso's unless I really have to.  I may still do that if I get an extra Skystriker Ace, but for now, here is my modernized Ghostrider.

I had the extra Heavy Metal and thought that it would be cool to make him into Ghostrider cause of the jacket.  I felt the vintage one really needed the flight suit and since the Ace ones fit the color of the Heavy Metal body perfectly, I thought why not.  If he ever gets shot down over the jungle, then the green flight suit under the jacket would be much better than having the grey pants and shirt.

His helmet is the modernized one.  One day, I may go and paint the top clear portion silver as right now, the only silver I have as a homage to the vintage one is his pistol.

Also, I'm deciding on a head to use as the Hawk one is just a place holder, but then again, it doesn't look bad and I might not change anything at all.

Hope you like it but keep in mind, this isn't meant to be a remake of the vintage one but just an update with more modern helmet and also giving him a flight suit.

I updated my Covergirl as the original one did not have articulated wrists and the grey gloves clashed with everthing else.

The skin tone on the neck is not that off in person, it's just the flash makes it look worse than it is.

Also, special thanks to Meandnooneelse of Hisstank who modified Cover Girl's chin line for me.

I gave her a holster so she has something to put her pistol in.  Still on the fence about it though.  I wanted to use a Han Solo holster cause it's brown, but I don't have another one so I'll have to wait till I can get one.  For now, the Hawk holster will do.

Man I'm loving that Wild Bill...awesome job! He's one of my fave from the 25th....i know i know some people don't understand why. I wanted so bad to get the WB with DF from the ROC...looked awesome! Only vehicle I was interested in from that line. I found it really hard to find.

Title: Repeater
Post by: nighthawk on April 03, 2012, 02:18:49 PM
Here's my modern Repeater.

Mandingo Rex from Hisstank did the belt for me.  The vest and hands color match.  I wanted hands that had the additional wrist movement which is why I went for those.

The backpack matches the belt (it only doesn't match because of the flash...haha).  I had a vintage Repeater backpack I was going to use, but I seem to have misplaced it though. :(

As a kid, I liked the ECO Warriors.  Here's my updated Clean Sweep.  I modernized him in that he is using less bulky headgear.  This is my Joe Hazardous Environment team of Clean Sweep and Airtight.  Clean Sweep's helmet is a little small which is why I picked a head that has the head cover.  Only mod on Airtight is that I added the air hoses to his helmet and connected it to his backpack.

Title: Scarlett
Post by: nighthawk on May 04, 2012, 02:59:29 AM
Here's my updated 30th Scarlett.  She's my default Scarlett now.

I wanted her to have a pistol and a quiver as well so I added the 25th Scarlett quiver onto a Lady J belt.

Title: Charbroil
Post by: nighthawk on May 09, 2012, 12:28:36 PM
Here's my updated Charbroil.  As with most of my customs, no painting required. :)

The reason I did what I did was because I was inspired by Charbroil's helmet on his card art.

Some pictures, one of his hoses is blue.  I didn't realize until I started the photoshoot that I accidentally used the Target ROC Wetsuit's hose.  I fixed it up after I realized, so the ones with two black hoses to his helmet is how he should look. :)

Thanks for the comments guys!

Here's my Ice Cream Soldier

I know this looks nothing like the vintage one, but I did what I could with what I had as I don't have a vintage one's head to hollow out.  If someone has an extra vintage head and a dremel, please let me know.

Basically, this is a modernized one with slightly less bright colors...haha.

He keeps his orange from the vintage and there's some splashes of yellow.

Not sure I'll keep the bandolier.  I just had it there cause of the grenades.  If I can find a black Firefly belt, then I'll switch it up.  If anyone can help, let me know.

I want to use the Doc helmet cause that's what the vintage one used too so I made this change.  the only drawback is that the oxygen mask doesn't fit anymore, but then again, the vintage one didn't come with one either.  Also took some pictures of his backpack.  Realized I never took pics of it before.

I may go and cut out the hole at the back of the hat cause I realized after taking the pics that Hasbro molded hair in the opening at the back but just never painted it, so I might just cut it open.

Thanks!  Here's my latest:

With the 3 pack Roadblock, I finally have a vest to give Slaughter.  Still had to remove the belt from Benchpress though.  You can see in the pics how much taller the Roadblock is though.

I think I'm finally finished tinkering with my Slaughter.  The vest was the last piece of the puzzle.

Storm Shadow:
All I did was modify the bow to add string and gave him some gear.  Since the vintage had gold trim, I thought the gold backpack would be a nice touch.  This was my favourite Storm Shadow paint deco as a kid and so glad to finally have this.

Well, I just found out that my link to getting the GiJoeclub subscription Cover Girl can't get me one anymore for personal reasons. :(

This will have to do now.  A friend at Hisstank painted the neck for me to match her head.  I had used the ROC Covergirl head before but now that I can't get the GICC FSS Covergirl, I decided I wanted to use the comic pack head on her.

If I ever do get the FSS Covergirl, then this can be Sparta.

So, my first attempt at Ghostrider, I was lazy and made him with a green flight suit and used the excuse that it's better to be in green if he gets shot down.  However, he flies the Stealth Fighter and shouldn't get shot down so I decided to not be lazy and do one more close to his vintage look.  I left the chest holster brown cause I don't paint.  It works out though as a nod to the vintage one's brown holster I guess. :)

What do you think?

I did a modern Rampart last year and the only thing I didn't like were the legs.  The lime green on the Airborne legs really throw things off.  I finally got an extra set of Steel Brigade legs so now I think I'm truly happy with him.  The legs color actually matches the color of his cap, but the flash makes them look lighter.

I remember when I was a kid, I saw a wall of Crossfires.  They were not in any G.I.Joe catalogs that I saw so I skipped getting the Crossfire (and they were on clearance too).  Boy do I feel stupid now after seeing the current prices.

One day, I just decided that I want a modern Rumbler so I had a friend over at Hisstank.com paint up the legs and the waist part for me and 2days ago, I picked up a Crossfire.  It's missing 1 missile and the sleeve for the antenna and the front bumper broke, but it's not too big a deal to me as I paid $40 only.

Now Rumbler has a vehicle to drive.

He fits perfectly into the Crossfire.

The DG Duke finally gave me the helmet I wanted to use for Duke without having to paint.  Here he is with my POC Hawk.  Duke's holster is grey to differentiate him a little from Hawk.

The rifle on Duke is just a vintage homage.  I probably won't use that gun for him in my displays though.

Don't know when or if Hasbro will release a Fast Draw.  I really hope they do, but for now, this one here will have to do.  A friend on HISSTank painted the helmet for me.

I really like the Marauders Mercer as is, but I wish he had a holster (I know, the vintage one didn't, but still, I want him to have a holster...haha).  Anyways, I had an extra set of Torch legs so I modified it to fit.  The paint match is almost perfect so no painting required.

I have gotten a hold of DG Trooper webgear and I think I like him witht he black webgear better since the grey matches the kneepads and looks more close to the vintage one since he had black webgear.

Repeater finally has his vintage backpack now.  I know there's a bunch of colour mismatch, but it is more pronounced due to the flash.

Mercer and Taurus
Here's my latest take on Mercer and Taurus.  I'm not finished with Red Dog as I'm still waiting for some parts and deciding how to do his webgear.

My previous Mercer used ROC Monkeywrench upper legs modded to accept Mercer's lower legs.  However, this made him too tall.  I managed to get an extra set of Mercer legs so I was able to do some modding without fear.  I also left the holster out a bit more so the vest doesn't interfere with the pistol.

As for Taurus, the only thing I added to my previous mods (fixed knees so he can stand, fixed head so he can look forward, and gave him Zanzibar's webgear) is I added a backpack for him.  It sits high to accomodate the knife (and I was actually just too lazy to move the peg).

Really love the idea behind the version of fastdraw. I never put those weapons on my POC duke....but with your design it's awesome. I've also seen a version of duke weapons on a version of Metalhead. Cheers! :)

Here's my removable helmet Wild Weasel.  I used a Clone Wars Commander Cody head cause he has the scars on his face which fits Wild Weasel as his filecard says he was hit by a strafing run.  I don't remember where the helmet came from but I know it was an upsized cast of the 25th head.

First off, I know the skin tone on his neck is off.  I wish the head I used had lighter skin tone, but I really like this head as it's scarred and has a mean scowl.  My previous attempt used a head that matched the color perfectly, but looked to happy.  I may paint the neck in the future, but the thing is I don't really want to do any mods to the figure though which is why I used the grey helmet to hollow out.  The flash does make the mismatch much worse than it actually is though.  Anyways, hope you like it.

After seeing the Coilcon Dodger, I decided what to do with this Duke body.  Not an exact representation of the vintage one, but I like the modernization.  The idea behind how the helmet was done was that I made it look weathered over time to kinda match the armor on his body that looks weathered.  I wish I had his vintage gun, but this Duke gun looks futuristic enough I guess.

Here's my modern Budo.  The only things I still want to do is I'm still trying to get a hold of a vintage Budo helmet and his sai as the sai on the backpack right now is too small and falls out easily.  Would also love to get his Funskool sword (cause it's not red).  If anyone can help, please let me know.

As it stands, here he is now and he's basically finished unless I get a hold of the vintage stuff I asked for above.

Hi, here's my Recoil.  Not a true translation of the vintage one, but it's close enough for me as again, no paint was required.  The hat was from Raginspoon.  The backpack hole of the vest and the hole on the figure don't line up so I just mounted the backpack to his vest.  Just for fun, I took some pics with his vintage gun, but it'll be the 25th Airborne gun shown in later pics that I will go with.

I like the 25th Hit N Run.  I only wish he came with some climbing gear and that he could actually bend his elbows more than 10 degrees.

I cut the upper arm to give him more range of motion and gave him Arctic Snake Eyes' climbing gear.

You can see where I trimmed on his arm so he can do a two handed grip on his weapno:

Slaughter's Renegades.
I have finally finished tweaking all 3 of my Renegades.  The hardest was finding web gear for Red Dog that fits.  It's big but I just treat it as a modular pack where he has room for another pack underneath.  I'm done with them though.  It's taken long enough and I've had it with tweaking these guys...haha.

I love it all: especially Recoil! I only have one small request: please give Bull a decent Movember Mustache. He much deserves one.

Thanks to Sgt. Humpty for painting the head and neck, my Scrap Iron's skin tones match now.  The only thing I wish was that this was the cancelled one so the parts would be a match to the vintage one, but I'm happy with what I have here.  The helmet was dug out by hand with drill bits and an exacto knife.  Don't know why Hasbro couldn't make it removable since it was so big anyways.

Just copying other ideas I've seen.  Basically SE head on DG Trooper body with SE satchel from a comic pack.

Made this figure because I had spare parts lying around.  Didn't know what to do with my extra Hazard Viper.  Got him just so I can have one Hazard Viper with all the holes on his mask filled.  I had an extra IG vest and putting that on the HV gives him the similar uniform color scheme of the Incinerator (red torso and the rest orange).  Had the extra CC head and was going to just put that on the body, but the head didn't fit, so I hollowed it out and made it a helmet.  I don't have a dremel so it was done by hand with drill bits and exacto blade.

Let me know what you think.  It's not meant to be a repro of the original, but more of an update.  His suit looks more fireproof now too than the original.

Not too thrilled with the club Iceberg.  Didn't like how the vintage one had no ears so I made a new one for myself.  This is patterned more to the 1998 release's color scheme.

I love Blowtorch but hate how he can never hold his flamethrower two handed and look good doing it.  First thing I did was modify the flamethrower itself so the stock can move in and out.  I also modified his elbow joint so he can bend 90 deg at the elbow.  However, he still looks weird holding the flamethrower cause of his hand design.  He can do it two handed, but if you look at the weapon from the side, he is actually holding it sideways instead of upright.
With the stock in the 'out' position:
(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l171/wing_woo/Joe Customs/002-36_zps4627e6ef.jpg)
With the stock in the 'in' position:
(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l171/wing_woo/Joe Customs/001-31_zps3a6e7271.jpg)
His arms bend 90 degrees now:
(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l171/wing_woo/Joe Customs/003-35_zps2dae6405.jpg)

After cleaning up my area, I noticed that POC Snow Job's hands are grey and might fit on Blowtorch.  Thanks to Darth Viper, I have an extra set of Snow Job hands.  I had to mod them to fit, but now Blowtorch can actually hold his flamethrower much better now.  I'm finally happy with my Blowtorch.  Now I just need black version of these hands for the FSS TNT.

Fast Draw:
This took me over a year to complete as I was waiting on the right parts.  Thanks to Ragingspoon for the casts.  It took so long cause unfortunately, the knee pads that Ragingspoon cast were too big to fit on the parts I used so I had to source another set of kneepads.

Recipe:
helmet, hands, backpack, launchers, missiles - Ragingspoon casts
lower legs - SRO Deep Six
knee pads - ROC Para-Viper
head - DG Duke
launcher handles - vintage
launcher handle plugs - hose connected to Scrap Iron's control plug
webgear and pistol - Retaliation Cobra Trooper
rest - Retaliation Duke

I noticed after taking the pictures that I have to fix his left hand though.  I had to make the holes in the backpack deeper for the hose to fit in.  The original cast helmet had hoses cast on but were too stiff and I finally managed to track down the vintage hose.

I think you should go with the helmet and mask that you made with your Freefall figure. The one you made is so much nicer because its a 2 peace and you can see Freefalls face through the mask.

Good work buddy  :)

I had made this Slipstream a while ago, but it was one of my first VvV head transplant that I did and I wasn't happy with it cause I drilled the hole too close to the front. As a result, he could not tilt his head forward and his head sat too far back on his head so he couldn't actually fit properly in the Conquest.  I managed to just get another DTC Footloose head in a trade recently and redid the head.  Now he fits perfectly in my Conquest.

I traded Xerofall from HISSTANK for a club Iceberg and asked him to put a skirt on it for me.  He agreed and even offered to do the collar and holster too.  I think he did an awesome job with the mods and all the painting!  All I did was hollow out an Iceberg hat and modified the SW head to go on the body.  I used the turtleneck to hide the fact that the skin tone from the head I used doesn't match Iceberg's neck, and also, Iceberg's neck seemed really skinny anyways.

I gave him the vintage gun

Fast Draw:
My first Fast Draw, I didn't do any painting and found that it looked incomplete.  First off, the backpack looked too plastic looking.  I went back and redid the custom by painting his shin pads and added weathering on it to make it match the torso armor weathering.  Then I added some metallic dry brushing on his backpack and launchers.  Lastly, added some black paint wipes to the backpack to make it look used and added extra black around the launch tubes as those areas should get blackened from the missiles being launched out.  Also did some black paintwipes on his kneepads.  Hope you like it. I left the missiles white cause I assumed they should be clean cause you can only use them once.

So, after I started painting again, I decided to go back and work on some of my non-paint customs to add some paint to them.  My first two were Dodger and Fast Draw.  Here's my third one, Freefall.

My original one, the one thing I didn't like was that he didn't have a green helmet.  I've now fixed that and I can say I'm happy with him.

Budo

I didn't really like the Hasbro Budo.  I love the figure, but it was just way over the top with the Samurai armor.  I would still like to get another one and display him with all the gear Hasbro gave him.  However, this one here is what I use for my Budo that is used for missions.  I went with the theme that he is first and foremost a trooper and that he has modified samurai armor used over top of his standard military uniform.  The helmet's color does not match anything else on him, but that's how the vintage one was too.  The backpack brown matches his boots.
The only things I would still do if I ever get the parts is that I want to use the vintage helmet and vintage sai as the sai I have on him right now is a little small.  The Thor Shogun head had to be modified for the helmet to fit.

Pretty cool Nighthawk. A lot better than what Hasbro offered up.

Love the Belushi eyebrow raise.

I never really liked the 25th Serpentor.  I found his colors too plain and I really didn't like the worried look on his face, not to mention his bald head.

I had this for quite a while now, like over 3 or 4 years but finally decided to paint him up.  It actually took me a month before I finally decided what color scheme I wanted to go with.  I didn't base this off anything.

The head was from the comic pack Serpentor and I touched up the eyes so he would look more menacing.

I'm actually just using Testor's acrylic.

I'm actually just using Testor's acrylic.

I've found good results with their gloss acrylics. Black especially works well for touchups of old Joes. Most other colours need to be mixed which can be a pain though.

I saw someone use the Swamp Viper head for Star Viper and I thought it looked cool so I copied the idea.  The helmet is a Raginspoon cast.

I had previously done an OG13 project.  I wasn't really happy with the 25th Short Fuze head though so I finally updated it.  The rest of the 25th set is in this thread including how Short Fuze looked before this mod.  I forgot to take pictures of the back to show the backpack, but the thread below shows it too.  It's just a Retaliation Lady J backpack.

Head looks a bit big in some pics, but it's just the angle the picture was taken.

My Slaughter's Renegades set is finally complete.  The last piece of the puzzle was Red Dog's belt and webgear and I finally got something that works now.

I managed to get a 25th Tiger Rat coming to me in a trade.  Disappointed that Skystriker was not the pilot.  I decided to make my own.

I took some creative liberties due to what I had available.  If I ever manage to get his vintage helmet and headset, I will switch to those and will also change his feet so they are brown.  For now, this will do cause the cheapest TF Skystriker that has helmet and headset I can find is still $30.  At least when my Tiger Rat arrives, it'll have the correct pilot.

The yellow helmet is a not to Wild Bill's as he'll be in the back, then it just brings cohesiveness in that they'll both have yellow helmets. (That's me trying to convince myself that it's ok not having the vintage helmet and headset)

I managed to get a mint complete Lightfoot for a really good deal so I modified the head and backpack onto the Blowtorch body.  Used the FSS TNT hands and a 25th Viper vest.

I finally managed to get a Blizzard backpack with handles that didn't cost me an arm and a leg.  The sled though looks weird as it's kinda small, but I found the vintage figure looked weird on the sled already.  I just wanted to keep his vintage gear.  I have his vintage rifle as well, but like this one better so that's why I gave him the one he has.

Well, while I work your work is Genius piece of engineering in general, I'll concentrate my feedback on two of my all-time favorite characters that you just did there: LightFoot and Skystriker. Those guys are wicked! Unless you are happy with LightFoot, I'd suggest you break alittle from the old school replicating, and just give it a black neckpiece. His head will apear to be less floating.

Also, I don't know If you remember that I once did a moderna era tooling on a ROC figure to create Thunder. I took the driver of the panther, sorry can't remember his name, did like you, grabbed an accessory pack headset to Breaker and added the silencer tips of Mutt and Junkyard on each side. And it did a decent job. Anyway I'm sure you could come up with something interesting. You could try finding some nice hardplastic lego antennas that you could use.

All in all good job! I want to see more done on my personal faves if ever you revisit them, so I'll be on the lookout :-)

Here's my latest.  I managed to get the vintage TF Skystriker helmet and updated him.  What do you think?

Lately, I've been really into making non-functional holsters functional.  Here's my next one: Recondo.

I also wanted him to have short sleeves like the vintage but didn't have good bare hands so I went with the gloves.

These pictures were right after I finished the custom and didn't realize how far to the side the holster was but here they are anyways.  This was why I had to retake some pictures (the ones above) after adjusting the holster position.

The only other thing I didn't like about Recondo was that he had no machete but since the vintage one didn't have it either, I didn't want to really add anything, but I may change my mind later and find a way to attach a machete sheath on him. For now, the solution is to pair him up with Pathfinder for all his missions. :)

Blowtorch:

Blowtorch is my favorite Joe of all time.  No idea why, just really loved him as a kid.  However, the new Hasbro ones have their little shortcomings unfortunately.  I've finally finished everything I wanted to do with my Blowtorch now.  I used a 50th Blowtorch for this and I am considering whether I will give the upcoming green Blowtorch the same treatment.
Here's the list of mods:
Flamethrower stock is extendable/collapsible
Modified neck so he can look straight ahead
Swapped his lower legs so that his legs are the same length
Added holster to right thigh
Modified elbow area on both arms to enable two handed poses of holding his flamethrower and pistol.

Unfortunately, his helmet and gas mask connection point is still really hard to get to line up 100% but it's only really noticeable in pictures though.

Here's the pics:

The Ninja Force SS was my all time favorite SS in terms of the look.  I just hated the spring loaded gimmick.  Even when I had it as a kid, I cut off the tabs and drilled a hole in his back so he can put on the vintage Storm Shadow backpack.

When Hasbro released the DG one, I was so happy in that it was a perfect base for the Ninja Force one.  I just wish they added some stuff to give him some gold paint apps and stuff.

I had originally worked on this but everything was just taped on.  Last night, I pulled him out to take some parts off for my 50th Storm Shadow mods and decided to actually complete this one.

Mods:
Added some extra white paint spots
Glued on pad for him to put his ninja stars (which are removable)
Glued on grenade
Gave him backpack from the Retaliation 3 pack version

I wish I was able to give him the shoulder pad look, but this I think is a nice compromise.  I just wanted to get some gold in there.  Originally, I just used the black 25th Storm Shadow backpack cause it had a gold belt, but he just couldn't hold those swords.  Hope you like it.

So, before the Ninja Force Storm Shadow came out, this was my favorite version.  Namely because I couldn't get the 1984 one and I actually liked him as a Joe.

The only issues I had with him was that I never liked his red backpack and sword.  When I was able to, I put the 1984 backpack on my 1988 Storm Shadow.

This minor tweak is basically just that.  The waist belt was from AVACSlab.  The rope was from the 25th version of this Storm Shadow.  I also lowered his head a little.

Wow!  Haven't updated this in a while.

Here's my Grid Iron I just finished. I used the 50th Duke as a base and basically added vintage stuff to it and some holsters for holding the pistol and football grenades.

The hardest part was finding a decently priced vintage Grid Iron.

I've had this Slipstream for a while and after seeing so many nice Slipstream customs that incorporate the hose attachments that the vintage one had, I decided to update mine.  Unfortunately, I couldn't add the holster to mine or else he wouldn't fit in the Conquest as I had modified it and gave it interior details.  To date, this Conquest is probably my favourite vehicle interior update.

I know the vintage one had the hose on his crotch area come from the left side, but since there was a pouch on the right side, I decided to make the hose come out of there instead.

Just finished up with Iceberg.

I managed to get some parts to update my Iceberg.  I gave him War Machine's head cause the skin tone is not as dark as the Star Wars head I previously used.  Now I can get rid of the neck scarf to cover the skin tone mismatch.  You can still see a slight mismatch if the flash is used, but in natural light, it's not really noticeable.  I wanted to use other legs, but don't have any to use, so I just changed his feet out with Frostbite's feet so they aren't so flat and skinny.

I really wanted to use this skirt piece as it flows perfectly with his jacket.  I used his vintage rifle in some pics and the wrapped one that came with the club one.  I like the vintage rifle, but it's kinda long, but just wanted to show him with it.
