Title: Saturday @ Bounty Hunter Toys
Post by: morgardee on July 26, 2006, 11:42:54 AM
Had to edit my post if it's now a start to a thread about Mike's big blowout sale this Saturday. So with that said, hope you all clear out Mike on Saturday! I'm sure he should have mind blowing sales on what he's got left.

I'm wondering what will happen to the $2.00 bin. Prices will probably be silly on that (if Raptor has even left anything in it).

So, if your not broke or busy, clear Mike out. I'm sure he doesn't want to bother moving stuff to his house.

Yeah, go and steal Mike's closing day thunder with your "everything in my life will be changed forever" and all that "like magic, I have added to the population, instead of slowing taking away from me".

Pete, I think it's safe to say you have one of the top five GI Joe collections in Canada, and it would be a boon for the nation if you put it on display.

Pete hinted at it, Loop mentioned it - I'll confirm it.

The two BIG Black metal showcases at the front of the store (the ones with the four foot tall G.I. Joe Logo on them) are going to Pete.

I've had MANY people offer to buy them from me, but I've wanted Pete's collection to be in there instead.

Sorry to anyone else that wanted them.  I'm dying to see that top portion just filled with Army builders. ;-)

If he has the means this Saturday, he can take them then - if not he'll take them on another trip.

But yep - THIS Saturday is the last day. Oh and Ryan, - you should drive down for the last day!.... Even Kadarle came down this week! ;-)

I wish I could. July 29th is my birthday, and I have a big day of waterslides and wrestling planned. What sucks is that stating Monday, I have a week off. Even with QEW traffic, a week's plenty of time to go to Hamilton and back.

But Kadarle, man, you should have told me you were going! There're a few things I'd have had you check the $2 bin for! Not to mention the mini figure pack ins that I'm collecting.

Not size wise.  I have seen some collections that would dwarf mine.  But terms of diversity.....I am in there.

And Mike, I have a van at my disposal.  So I should be able to pick up both shelves on Saturday.  And as per Mike's request, I will have to fill them up.   That is going to take some time. lol

Ouch. I'm going to assume that was said with a smile and no malice and not dwell on it.

Hey Pete, if there are bigger collections out there, do you have pics and do you have any links to them? I always like to check out other collections out there.

I was hoping the tongue would show in the cheek when I suggested you were killing people over the years. But looking at my quote, I said "instead of slowing taking away from me" when I meant to say "slowing taking away from it." In any case, nothing but sunshine and friendly ribbing intended with that one.

Car pool, take out a loan.

;-)

Also guys, I split this off from the thread it WAS in.
It got so off topic that it deserved it's own spot.

I'd like to make it to the closing sale, I could set aside $40-80 to spend, but nobody I know of is planning on going that way.

I am going to try and be at the store. However with buying new house 3 days later - I won't be bringing large sacks of money - I really wish I had some alrge sacks of money with the $ symbol on the side!  The more I think about it, the more I don't know how I could miss the closing of my favourite store of all time!

Near as I can tell, the website doesn't have stock up anymore? Poop. I was hoping to be there in spirit by placing a cursuary order.

If anyone that's going to be there today feels like helping me out, there are a few specific items I was looking for. I'll cover all costs:

-Blowtorch Mask x2
-Blowtorch Blowtorch (either shade) x1
-Loose Shipwreck v1 (for under $4, preferably. I just need him for the head, so he can have a busted crotch and hands, it's okay)
-Pack-in minifigs, as many as Mike's got left.
-Night Raven decoy jet

I guess that's it. RIP BHT, we hardly knew ye.

Someone send me a piece of the building like carpet, part of a display or something.  I'll frame it for my Joe room (seriously). :-)

Beav, I can give you a square of plastic from the extra drawer in my $2 bin.

Yes, I did say *my* $2 bin - Mike gave it to me, after also giving me a shirt and buying me, and a dozen of his customers and their families, dinner. When was the last time the manager at Walmart or Toys R Us did that for you?

I'd say more (and will), but I'm worn out from today. It was a great day. It was a terrible day. It was a great day.

I know I don't post here often, as I collect a different line that Mike sells   , but I was among the group with Mike for dinner tonight.

A wonderful and generous treat from quite possibly the best toy man I know.  There's a MASSIVE hole in the vintage toy industry in Hamilton now.  Everyone who has done business with you is going to miss BHT.

Best of luck with everything in your future Mike.

Smooth.  I think that's the most fitting bit of the store anyone could own.

Yep.
Raps looked blown away when I presented him with the $2.00 bin.
There were only a few of us there, and I SWEAR it looked like Raps was going to well up and start crying on the spot. :shifty:

He looked just as shocked to get it, as I was to get my DiBiase stolen. (Yes, I'm STILL pissed).

Those that came to dinner seemed to have a good time, and hardly any of the talk was about 'toys'. ?!

For those of you that didn't get an invite, PLEASE don't take it as a personal thing, I had a 'set amount' of money I was going to spend on dinner, and had to make cuts.

My original list was about 45 people long!

At $21.95 a plate, that would of been WELL over $1000.00 to feed all you sorry mugs. ;-)

I was expecting a traditional 'Raptor Write Up' here..... since I was too busy to remember most of the day!

first of all..."HEY MIKE, LOOK!!! I'M POSTING!!!!"

now that that's out of the way...

I share Raptor's sentiment that it was great day/it was a terrible day.  I was at the store bright and early, as were quite a few people.  Mike and Denise were on fire!  answering questions, ringing stuff up, reminiscing.
I walked out with a few things I'd wanted for a while including a Listen n Fun Tripwire with cassette, and believe me, I'd liked to have left with more.  I was fortunate enough to have been invited to the "after party", which was great fun, and very generous of Mike and Denise.  I also got invited to the "after-after party", which was quick trip to Casa Heddle to check out the famous toy room.  The pictures were kewl enough, but it was impressive to see everything Mike has managed to display in there, and up close, it's incredible.  All in all, a sad day for BHT's closing, but a great way of saying goodbye and thanks to Mike and Denise for allowing me to be a part of its send off.

now i gotta tackle raps for a couple of body parts...

Sounds like everyone had a good day, aside from the Million Dollar thief, what an idiot. Anyway, makes me sad that I never had the chance to set foot in Mike's store. I think those of us out west here are going to have make a serious effort to make it to the next Joe meet. I'm sure I can beat  :chicken:

Violence solves nothing. :(

I've finished sorting everything that was in the bin, and bagging it. Having everything loose like that made transport really difficult, no matter how slowly I drive.

I'm still reeling about what to do with the legacy of the bin. I haven't completely adapted to BHT not being there.

I doubt he was stunned, he was deep in thought. "I'm getting the $2 bin for free? Think of all the money I could have saved! But if I didn't spend all that money, would I have got the $2 for free?"

Destiny brought Rap and the $2 bin together in the end. He's going to be one busy busy man.
It was funny going through the bins with Pete and Charles on the final day. We were like a bunch of raccoons digging through Mike's trashcan. Good time, good time.

Yep, I'm pretty sure mike's wife got a pic with all our butts up in the air while we were leaning over the bin. I (like everyone else) am hoping that doesn't see the light of day..

Not to spoil anything for anyone, but the $2 bin had only about 15 actual 2 dollar joes in it, and the rest was junk non-joe figures, and joe parts and accessories. I'm working on changing that at least a little.

One thing that I do know is that the $2 bin has officially moved to non-profit status. I'm hoping to figure out a way to make it a renewable resource. I don't have Mikes resources, but I do think that there may be a way to keep it going.

But mike - you're welcome to anything you need. Now that I've organized it a little better, I might be able to find what you are looking for if you send me a parts list.

Ed, we may be able to work something out, say a little donation of unwanted figures for some accessories if you can find what you need. Not sure that you'll find it though, the majority of the stuff in the bins was accessory pack stuff and rocket launchers. Still, I've bagged the rocket launchers, guns, backpacks and helmets seperately to make it a little easier to go through.

On a personal victory note, From the bin, I did finally get the replacement arm for my 85 snake eyes that I've been searching for for more than a decade and a half. I can finally play with him again without worrying about the hairline crack in his thumb that kept him from holding a sword.

And I swiped the Red Star rocket launchers for a custom project, because they are just that damned cool.

I've been trying to write a comprehensive review of the day, but the words just aren't coming to me. From getting almost all of the original Night Force at a discount, to drawing Loop's blood over $2 figures (Sorry!) to trying to get Pete to buy a ninja cycle that I painted as a kid, to finally buying the '83 base I've been looking at for years,  to getting the $2 bin, the day is a blur, and I just can't do it justice.

I'd prefer that BHT still be open, but when it went out, no man who was there could say that it didn't go out with a bang.

Couple pics you say? Hmmm.... lol

After having been absent for pretty much the whole year  I've missed out on quite a bit.  Between work being rediculously screwy and travelling between here and Maryland monthly (stories for another time ;) ) my joes and customs have sadly fallen by the wayside.

It was a sad day to visit BHT, but it was also excellent to somewhat catch up with folks, even tho I did miss out on quite a bit being at the end of the dinner table.  The store will certainly be missed, but the friendship that came out of it and the love of the hobby is still here.

I've always been a bit of a lurker, but I've got some catching up to do so I'll just have to make a point of posting more
