General Joe Talk / Fan Expo 2015
« on: August 21, 2015, 07:28:44 AM »
Something I've been thinking about for a few weeks now is that I won't be surprised about is if I hear the Hasbro both at Fan Expo has leftover SDCC stuff.

Before I started to go they had GI Joe stuff but every year I went they didn't.

Looking at the Hasbro Toy Shop on line they still have the Crimson Strike Sets and the Kreo sets. People who wanted them have already bought them. I did and it cost me $300 after the dollar exchange, shipping and taxes. That was for 1 Crimson Strike set and 1 Sgt. Slaughter Kreo set.

If anyone is going to Fan Expo, can you let me know if I'm right? I'm not going this year.

BTW, the best day to shop is the Thursday (if they still open on Thursday). Smaller crowd, more inventory.

I don't spend as much time on the internet any more so i was shocked when I heard Rowdy Roddy Piper  passed away.

I'll miss the Hot Rod. He was one of the best.

General Joe Talk / Convention prototypes
« on: February 08, 2015, 07:41:50 PM »
I've had these sitting on a shelf and thought it might get a bit of positive conversation going.

The one on the left is the one that was part of the convention set, the one on the right was the sample one I assembled as the mock up. Different head and the lower arms were painted flesh tone.

This one isn't very different, just the goggles were painted silver on the original moc up. This is the one that was taken to a Toy Convention as a sample before the rest of the set was ready to be revealed.

The Coyote Viper was originally suppose to be dyed with a dark tan colour. The problem I ran into was the mock up was one figure in a big batch of dye. As soon as I tried to add multiple figures at the same time it washed out and looked pretty bad. As a result the majority of the figure had to be hand painted and then sealed to prevent paint chips. Also there was another head that we tried on the body with a visor. The figure on the right has the dyed body and visor head. I believe I added the Cobra stickers to mine because I thought it looked cooler.

Off Topic / Peter Cullen
« on: February 01, 2015, 07:14:20 PM »
I recently learned that Peter Cullen would be attending TF Con this summer (July 17 - 19).

I'll be honest, I was getting bored with toy shows and convention but if there is one voice actor who would get me to go again, it's him.

Off Topic / Loosing my interest in G.I. Joe
« on: May 27, 2014, 08:14:17 PM »
Well I think it's finally happened. I'm loosing my interest in G.I. Joe. and toys in general for that matter.

Sure I'll go to the occasional toy show but in general I feel like I'm just going through the motions now and not really excited by much anymore in the way of toys.

Making customs has really lost it's appeal as well.

I've had the thought a few times now that if I broke down my collection and sold it all I could pay of my mortgage.

I have a few things already on Ebay. They have higher Buy It Now prices and my attitude has become if someone wants it I'll let it go but if not then the stuff can stay on display for a bit longer.

I suppose the last straw for me was the Zombie set. I was so unimpressed with it that it was an easy pass and think that broke me from the "gotta have 1 of everything" frame of mind.

That and the break from Hasbro. It's amazing how much more money I have now that I'm not throwing it at every new toy that comes out.

Anyone else ever feel like I'm feeling now?

Off Topic / PS4 or Xbox 1?
« on: November 03, 2013, 10:30:06 AM »
So these new systems are just around the corner. There has been some reviews so far comparing the PS4 to upgraded PC's and the graphics and play are very close now. I haven't seen a review for the Xbox 1 yet.

I have played both systems at Fan Expo and they both looked very slick.

So what's everyone take on the new systems?

I already fully paid for my PS4 so I'll have it set up on release date.

Off Topic / Call of Duty Megablocks
« on: October 06, 2013, 09:34:02 AM »
I haven't been on the internet toys sites much as of late so I might be a bit slow in mentioning this but I just heard about this:

http://callofduty.megabloks.com/en-us/?gclid=CLGxze-ngroCFc4-Mgod2kgAHg

This is very cool for me. I'm a fan of Call of Duty and I always liked the design of Halo Megablocks. These look even better with articulation in the arms and just a better load when it comes to gear.

Kreo-s just lost their appeal to me. I'm more interested in CoD and trying to customize those.

Off Topic / Hasbro at Fan Expo 2013
« on: September 07, 2013, 06:30:41 PM »
I was at Fan Expo this year. It was another good show.

Hasbro was set up as usual. They gave me some new Bey Blades for my son. They also had more of a presence this year with a booth set up to sell toys. Among the toys was the Star Wars Black series. I've got some Star Wars figure (96 moc in the attic from the 90's plus a bunch of play sets if anyone wants to make a deal  ;) ). Anyhow, Hasbro was selling the 6 inch figures for $30 each with the exception of the Sand Trooper they were selling for $40 each OR you could "save money" as they put it and buy all 4 for $100.00.

That never sat right with me. They know it's an army builder so instead of changing the case assortment they jack the price of the "hot" figure. I expect this from on line shops, independent shops and toy shows but NOT from the manufacturer.  They were there to represent themselves as Hasbro and spread the word on the product, not get an extra $10. I have no idea who approved that idea but it was a bad call.

Ironically I've seen the new 6 inch wave a few times now. Wal-Mart has them for $22.99 and Toys R Us has them for $24.99. Both prices below the $30 Hasbro wanted for X Wing Luke, R2D2, Darth Maul and $40 for the Sand Trooper.

I picked up the Sand Trooper today. It's next to me as I write this. It's not a bad toy. With GI Joe looking like the main stream product is going away in 2014 I'll have a few spare dollars for the odd 6 inch Star Wars toy. I have no plans on getting them all. Darth Maul and anyone else from 1-3 can stay on the shelves but I'll grab Luke, Han, Vader and Boba Fett when I see them.

I also ran into Loop in his "Multiple Man" suit. It's always a joy to run into him. Great guy, always has a smile.  :)
