I saw this on Ebay today and it made me smile.

I'm glad The Black Major is keeping the chrome thing alive:

Off Topic / Need help - I'm looking for a comic display case
« on: August 28, 2012, 05:56:49 PM »
I'm looking for a comic display case / frame for my buddies upcoming birthday.

I found some on Ebay but the shipping was way to expensive.

Anyone know of a Canadian seller who has comic display cases to hang a comic on the wall?

I was looking for something like this:

http://www.bcwsupplies.com/products/comic-displays/comic-book-showcase.htm

Let me know if you know of someone who sells stuff like this for a reasonable price.

Thanks.

I paid $40 for it but I don't really have a use for it. It's a limited run of 500 pieces and is selling on Ebay for $55 - $79.99.

If anyone wants to buy it or trade me something of comparable value please let me know.

Reviews Section / GIJCC 2012 Soviet Convoy Truck
« on: July 31, 2012, 04:30:41 PM »
Well if you own the Cargo Truck from the Indian Jones line then you pretty much got yourself the GIJCC Soviet Convoy Truck.

The Soviet Convoy Truck (SCT) is made from the exact same mold as the Indian Jones Cargo Truck (IJCT), but is lacking some of the details and play factors the original had.

The original IJCT had a working grill that would fall down when you touched the hood ordainment and a small rope that came from the rear axle of the truck for Dr. Jones to hang from behind the truck.

Those play features were not included with the SCT. Also missing was the paint application on the windshield, so there is nothing separating the "glass" panels on the front window.

I can understand the GIJCC removing the play features the front grill and the rope off the back but when a large part of their reputation is the amazing paint applications on the figures, leaving something missing from the front windshield really is dropping the ball.

The vehicle itself is a nice toy. It's very large and chunky feeling and really makes you want to load it up with figures and go "vroom vroom". The back is a nice layout and the majority of the paint layers look nice.

However, it's not worth the $100 they charged for it. In my opinion a fair asking price for this truck (that came with no figures) would have been $50.00. They didn't have to do much to it. Just stripping down should have helped on production costs.

It does come with 3 different canopies which look nice once installed. The problem is the plastic on them was very stiff and all 3 of mine were bent in, so I had to flex the plastic really hard to get them onto the back of the trucks.

In my pictures the truck with the Oktober Guard canopy is the SCT. The Iron Grenadier canopy is the IJCT.

So this is the new truck:

This is the old version:

The funny thing to note is none of the convention Iron Genadier figures can actually sit in the front of the truck. They all have swords or skirts on.

No whip / string:

General Joe Talk / Grail found - Whale for $5.00!
« on: July 27, 2012, 08:16:31 AM »
I've always wanted the Whale but just never got around to owning one. Yesterday I bought one off Kijjij for $5.00.

It's not perfect and needs a few parts, but for $5 it's a great deal.

If you look at the left canon you'll see the end of it is missing.

I need to replace the propellers on the fans and the fins. Even the complete set of fins needs repair as the one side is broken:

The front door here has a broken tab on one side:

These are extra Whale parts I have to trade if anyone has any Whale parts I need:

it also came with cutter but his left leg and crotch are broken. No big deal as I already owned him.

My son and I played with this thing all last night.

BTW, it looks like I have more barrels then this thing can hold. I've got 6, yet it looks like it can only hold 5. Is the normal?

Off Topic / Batman dark knight rises
« on: July 19, 2012, 10:02:48 PM »
I just got back from an early showing of this film and I gotta say, it was awesome. I knew about the film but after the second movie I didn't think they could top it. I'm not sure if it's better then 2 but it sure as heck is close.

It was so good I didn't even realize it was almost 3 hours long.

I won't spoil it. I'm just saying it was one of the better movies I've seen in a long time.

The \'Show\' Room / Some of my collection
« on: July 19, 2012, 09:04:50 AM »
Just a few pictures of my rec room.

MOC figures, convention figures, signed figures and the original poster that came with  mail away magazine from the 80's. I had the poster mounted on a board with white trim.

Last year and this years GIJCC sets:

Bootlegs:

Bootlegs and some GIJCC stuff:

I got a lot more. I just took a few pics. Really I was just talking with a fellow Joe Canuck member about MOC figures and said I have the white Jinx on my display wall. I thought I'd show it. I can take more pictures at another time if anyone wants to see the rest of the room.

Reviews Section / Retaliation Hiss Tank
« on: May 26, 2012, 09:12:57 AM »
I opened my Hiss Tank last night and here is my first quick thoughts on it. That thing is uber ugly.

As a stand alone toy sitting on the shelf it might look OK, but certainly not great. I'll try to look at the positive aspects of this thing first. The colours are nice and the new canopy design make a lot more sense then the V5 Hiss tank. It's a nice throw back to the original Hiss Tank in some ways like the small wheels under the non moving treads and a figure sits exposed in a large canon at the back. The canon has a launching missile, not sure if that's viewed as a good thing or not as an adult but my son will enjoy it.

Now the negative. I'm not sure that SDCC Hiss Tank is really going to be that cool. At least I now see why it has 2 figures compared to just one last year. It needs all the help it can get. Compared to last years Starscream, Shockwave probably won't be as cool. At least Shockwave will have new molding unlike Starscream last year but the base of the toy is boring.

The worst part it's a new mold, so you can use your old Hiss Tank treads on it or swap the canopy from the new one to your old Hiss Tank.

Like the figure, the thing is a statue. Tiny wheels on the bottom of the tread and very limited movement between the tread and the main body.

I suppose I'v become use to a higher standard from Hasbro. If this tank came out in 1985 I might have thought it was cool. Compared to the original Hiss Tank it has more play value, but compared to V5 with the moving treads and elevating action it's just dull.

If I was still chroming everything in sight then this body would perfect as there is a lot less moving parts. As it stands I'm done with chroming. I already did a V5 Hiss in chrome and I'm happy with that.

I give the Retaliation Hiss Tank a "C".
