New kid from Ontario
« on: September 23, 2009, 03:24:45 PM »

Hello all. Where do I start on my introduction.... well, here goes.

I am a kid who has grown up around toy collectors,  Barbie, corgi, matchbox, Sunshine family and of course the old 12" Joes. So because my father collected GI Joes when the ARAH ones came out I got a bunch for birthdays and holidays and the such. Of course when the Hall of Fame series came out, being 12" tall my dad went crazy and had to get them all for him and me. I grew up loving joe's of all sizes. But for a reason I will not go into I had to get rid of a lot of my stuff and so went all my toys. Over the years I would collect all kinds of stuff, like Star Wars (and I mean Hardcore Star Wars) and would constantly find myself selling everything off. Once I got out on my own and had to work to pay the rent, I stopped collecting completely.

Then came along a reimagined show called Battlestar Galactica. The show blew my mind and I had to have whatever I could find. Due to my old toy collecting ways, it brought me to a forum called minimatemultiverse where I go by the name pickle. Once I completed most of the line, which is almost finished, I found myself in a position where I can collect other toy lines. I tried a few different things like statues and vinyl figures but found myself growing bored of every line.

Then Rise of Cobra came out. Well, I loved it. The best worst film ever. lol. Just a popcorn action flick. I actually saw it for the first time on my bachelor party. After the movie I would think about how much I loved GI Joes growing up, and I had to have some. I already had the Croc Master 25th figure that I got for christmas because he was my fav when I was a kid. I needed more. I collect anything 12" (old and new), vintage 3.75, 25th anniversary, 3.75 Rise of Cobra and fiction (DVD's, Comics, novels...) but mostly Cobra. I joined the Joe club and a different forum.

I found it funny that Transformer collectors had their own Canadian forum but not Joes. Well I found out this morning that I was wrong and had to join. That brings me here. Even though I have only been collecting for almost a couple months, I feel like I have found my toy line.

Anyway, Glad to be here and I have already discussed with the wife that there is a Canadian Joe Con. We already hit up all the Toronto Toy shows since we stated dating, so it was a no brainer. Living near Kingston makes it easy. Hope to get to know some of you guys and glad to see all the Canadian fans. Also, this might sound a little forward, but if there is a member with an extra Chacal Noir (Black Jackyl), I would be very grateful to some help.

General Hawk: Technically, G.I. Joe does not exist, but if it did, it\'d be comprised of the top men and women from the top military units in the world, the alpha dog\'s. When all else fails, we don\'t.

Well that was a cool intro. You'll have a blast at the Canadian Joe meet. Lots of toys and great prices, better then most you'll find on ebay.

Welcome

Thanks for the warm welcome. Um if I can ask a question about the Con here, how much was the exclusive set selling for?

Are you asking about how much it originally costed at the Con or how much it' worth in the secondary market? To answer the first question, I remember that the set costed me 140$ at the convention including the price of VIP admission. The VIP admission gave us seats to the Hasbro press conference and was a requirement to get the exclusive con set. The regular admission did not. To answer the second question, there are posts about it on the boards to give you an idea of what to expect to pay now as a price range.

The set by itself was $125.00 (Canadian). The second hand market has been up and down but if I was to make a quick sale of my set I think I could easily get $500.00 (USD). You would probably get more on Ebay.

I would love to have seen someone sell one at the MC convention this past year. I imagine it would have sold for $1000.00 or more at that show (but that is just a guess).

I was looking for the price of the set at the time of purchase. Thanks for the answer. I should be taking the time to look at the newsletters, I would have got my answer that way.

One question to ask and I don't like starting new posts for silly questions. Is there a Canadian package for the 25th Lady Jaye? I know I have seen the earlier 25th Canadian packages with just the explosion picture on the front with no character, but could not remember if they released Lady Jaye like that.
