Yeah pre-pandemic me would have been all in on the new O-ring no questions asked.

However post (current) pandemic me is being much more selective on what I get, thanks mostly due to the price increases.

I got in on the Skystriker, so I'll get some new O-ring figures that way, and that will probably further wreck my willpower.  However until then I can probably stay strong.

Also it helps that Classified is killing it right now.  Why pay $40CDN+ for an O-ring figure when I can get the Classified version for less in most cases?  Nostalgia is a killer on the wallet, but there are limits.

Also it doesn't help that different companies are also doing retro lines for cheaper.  I am currently collecting the Masters Of The Universe: Origins line.  They started out at $15 and can still be found for less than $20 in a lot of cases.  Yes the prices on them are going up as well, and they aren't exact replicas of the original MOTU line, but when compared to O-ring, they are a much better value.

What I don't understand with that retro o-ring line, is their choice of fig. They start with SS/SE probably because of the popularity of these characters. Then Cobre troopers, Duke and CC... I mean why not starting at the begening with the O13: Hawk, Breaker, Short-Fuse, Stalker, etc.

Not sure why they started with a mix of figs from 1983 and 1984.

42 US for two army builders?  Come on.

Agree. But I see this as a way to get MOC fig and to let them in package as I can't afford vintage figs MOC. I just hope they will do most of the 1983-1985 series.

And hopefully 6-pack for army builders.

The big problem with the new O-ring figures is the cardbacks themselves.  Apparently from what I have seen online, the cardboard is pretty flimsy and people are reporting bends/creases right out of the package.  It is just the continuing trend of cost cutting that makes it harder to collect MOSC.

The flip side to this is that the original O-ring figures MOSC are both ridiculously expensive, and every year a bigger and bigger risk to buy.  You have the standard problem of disintegrating O-rings, which leaves you with a MOSC puzzle inside a bubble.  However now there are more examples of yellowing bubbles, and the heels on figures breaking more often due to age.  It makes for an ever smaller amount of truly MOSC figures that people buy.

So these new O-rings are a good alternative for those of us that want some original (or as close as possible) ARAH figures MOSC.

Yet I still haven't pulled the trigger because $42US (something like $70US with shipping/tax) is just too pricey for me right now.
