General Joe Talk / What is that "club"?
« on: October 20, 2006, 03:16:21 PM »
Hi, I'm a new member and I collect the 12" G.I.Joe figures and I'd like to know what this "club" that is mentioned refers to. Is it an on-line store, an actual collector's club, a line of action figures or something else?

I'm also curious to know what those Sea / Air Foreign Adventurer figures are. Are they vintage, reproductions or other?

I remember the Spanish Geyper Man because as a child my family went to Europe back in 1978 and I saw a whole section of them in a Woolworth in Madrid Spain. My mom of course told me they wouldn't get me anything because I'd find the same stuff back home... not !!  I remember they had really cool figures with the cropped hair (without beard) and the old G.I.Joe mold from 1964 with all sorts of different sets from fighter pilot, deep sea diver and even a 1/6 scale pirate ship with the Geyper Man figures done up as pirates. Man, I wish I could be back there for a day with a full wallet...   :(

oups sorry, I meant Darkshade, the black clad ninja.
I saw your 4 movies and read a few pages here and there.
I own the 2nd and 4th movie.

Well for all its worth, you have a fan right here.
I you had a few "planche" scanned, I'd be delighted to check 'em out

Thanks for the interest in my work, I appreciate it. If you're interested, a friend of my owns a comic book store where he has most of my stuff on consigment (Studio 9, 5835 Saint-Hubert, Mtl, near Rosemont subway station, tel.: 514-272-6043).

As for having a few "planches" scanned I don't and they probably wouldn't scan well anyway since I use a very light pencil (4H) so that I don't have a hard time erasing the pencil lines after I'm done inking. I'm hoping to find the time to ink the story in the next couple of years and publish it in a special issue of my friend's old fanzine where he ran several of my series in years past.

Thanks again.  :D

Bring back Nightshade! That character is cool.
Any Delta squadron development?
Any new Nightshade stories coming up?

Nightshade? Do you mean Darkshade, the black clad ninja (also wearing a Shadow like costume as well as a SnakeEyes like outfit in certain scenes) in my first two Delta Squadron movies I made in 1992 and 1995? Or do you mean Nightshade, the female psychic witch from my Delta Squadron comic book from 1988? I'm not sure how much of my stuff you're familiar with.

I made a comic back in 1995 recreating the origins of Delta Squadron (created in 1984) that was followed by a mini series of comic fanzines published between 1997 and 2001 where Darkshade (or Ombre in french) is developped along with the other characters of the Delta Squadron team.

Newest development is a work in progress of the last adventure of Delta Squadron (last as in LAST) but even though the pencils are done I have no idea when I'll find the time to ink the story. No other video projects planned (simply don't have the time anymore).

Thanks for asking.  :)

Hey, I have pics of you and your wife on my site?  Point out the pic (copy/paste the url here and give me a heads up) so I can put face to a name :)

I think I'll pass, first, the picture I'm on is a group shot and you wouldn't recognize me that much with the costume and second it's not my most flattering look (my wife had made the costumes for competition before we got married many years ago). We had a lot of fun doing the presentation on stage but people still remember me from that silly outfit. Man, I even remember the stupid song (we had rehearsed that much). She's in another picture along side you, however, as Vansen from SAB.

I haven't posted to that  costumer site much lately, but when I do, it's under my website name of 'neoengel' ... I shoulda just stuck with 'Sid".
I never got told not to do my costume, however there was a debate that popped up about doubles over there.  I flatly told them that I do the costumes I like and encourage others to do the same.

I didn't see the posting which I assume are only visible to members. That and I didn't know about your other user name. I agree with your point of view, we do these costumes for fun and everyone definitely should make the one or the ones they're interested in even if it's been done by others. That said I might make a TigerClaw costume (even if SnakeEyes as always been my favorite character) because I don't feel like making a costume that others have made much better than I could afford to make, time-wise and money-wise. that and I have the figure as a reference and found some fabric in the kaki/green color the character wears (I just don't like the orange so I might switch it to red as a personal preference) and because I've never seen anyone make that costume before and the character is still a ninja (always liked ninjas).

I met a few of the people you mentioned in person at DragonCon where I saw that awesome C.C. '82 costume (I almost wanted to check out the back for the semi-backpack thing there his blaster connected)

I had forgotten about the action figure having that backpack thing to hook up his blaster. That jugged my memory.

Thanks for the response Sid. We might see each other at T-Trek next year. My wife and I are thinking of going. I'll try to have that TigerClaw costume ready. So, if you see that character (along with a tiny 2 year old double) that should be me.  :)

FWIW I saw GIJoe costumers when I was at DragonCon in Atlanta, you can check out my photo gallery for more pics there.

However I haven't really seen much else in the Toronto/Ontario area.

There is of course www.gijoecostumers.com ;)

Thanks for the response and for the links. I checked your website a second time and I'll have to find more time to take a better look because there's a lot to see there (great site by the way).  I got a kick seeing the pictures from previous conventions (you actualy have some of me and my wife there). The guy with the 1982 Cobra Commander costume is just like I remember the action figure to be. I wonder how he made the helmet, it looks so neat it's like it was manufactured that way.

I took a look at that G.I.Joe costumers group website and some of the members there really have some interesting costumes. I got a kick out of Shockwave (I had forgotten the character but the costume jugged my memory and I remembered the action figure immediately), BeachHead, Scarlet and, of course, the two SnakeEyes. I was expecting to see you there. Is it that they didn't want a third SnakeEyes or that you didn't really want to join or something else? Just wondering. On the other hand it doesn't seem like they do much more than post a picture and short file of the members.

Have you ever been to one of the Joe Meets up here?

Is anyone into costuming? I'm a new member and from what I've seen in some discussion threads and several topics it looks like nobody seems to be (except Sid with his cool looking SnakeEyes and StormShadow costumes). I have a few costumes left from the time I was doing amateur feature length action videos based on some of my self published comics influenced and inspired by my love for the G.I.Joe series of toys, comics and cartoons and I like to wear some of those costumes at conventions (like Toronto Trek and Anime North where a lot of people like to make and wear costumes inspired by their favorite characters from movies, TV shows, comics or other). I've done that from time to time just to show them off and have fun. I look at those conventions as big Halloween parties. However it seems I might be an odd ball in this group. Is there anybody else who made a costume of his or her favorite G.I.Joe character? I'm thinking of making a Kamakura costume sometime just for the heck of it. I even got enough fabric to make my young son a matching costume. I'm still toying with the idea.

Ontario / Does "Toys, toys, toys" still have 12" G.I.Jo
« on: October 06, 2006, 10:55:52 PM »
Could anyone tell me if the store "Toys, toys, toys" at Square One shopping centre in Mississauga still has a G.I.Joe section with 12 inch G.I.Joe action figures? I got a good deal there a few years ago on a WWII commemorative Marine Raider 12" G.I.Joe for $20 (regular price was $50...) and I would stop by again if they still have the big figures since me and my wife might come down to visit a friend in Mississauga this fall. If they don't have them anymore I won't bother stopping there since it's a bit out of the way from our friend's place. Could someone let me know? Thanks.

Dude!! You the Delta Squadron guy right? I own two of the movies and they are really cool.

Welcome aboard!

Yep, that would be me. Glad you liked the two movies I made, I assume it's the first two, which means you know what happened to my old G.I.Joe collection (gone up in smoke, litterally...). Got a new collection but it's mostly 1/6 scale. Thanks for the welcome!    :D

Yearly CanJoeCon Discussion / Re: Info about Joe Meet
« on: October 03, 2006, 11:22:42 PM »
Thanks for your reply Mike. Sorry I took so long to answer back but this is the first forum I've started participating to so it's going to take me a little while to get used to it and get a better idea of what's going on since there's quite a lot of topics and discussion threads to read. That and I don't have a lot of free time. I've looked at the previous threads of the past Joe Meets and have a little better idea of what it might be like. From what I gathered the last meet took place in the banquet hall of a bowling centre accross the street from where your store used to be (by the way, I hope all is well with your big decision and that you and your wife have more free time) and that people interested in selling Joe related items rented a table while other tables were set up to display custom figures, play card games and there were video games of a custom G.I.Joe wrestling game and possibly a vcr or dvd player showing G.I.Joe cartoons. The meet, I think, was one day and ended up with some of the folks involved going to dinner afterwards. Did I miss something? (sorry my reply is so long, once I get my bearings I'll write shorter messages, I swear) I'll want to know more. Thanks again.   Andr?  :)

Yearly CanJoeCon Discussion / New member would like info about coming events
« on: September 30, 2006, 04:15:54 AM »
Hi, I'm a new member and been a Joe fan for a long time. Played with the big figures as a kid, got hooked again with the introduction of the G.I.Joe team back in 1982 with the new line of small figures, comics and cartoons that followed, etc... I'd like to know a little more about the previous and coming event because I'd be interested to attend but want to know more about it. I only saw some pictures about the wrestling video game and mention of that, card games and viewing of old G.I.Joe cartoons at the last event. Are pictures taken at the actual event available? I'd like to know what the place looked like to give me an idea of what to expect the next time. I have a son who's just about a year and a half so I might want to bring him along in the coming years so I need to know that this event is kid friendly or at least that there are no restriction to bringing your child along. Is there a dealers room? Are there activities like mascarade competitions, model/diorama/illustration competitions or exhibits for members or special ghests, panels on Joe related topics, that sort of thing? Please let me know. Thank you.
