Reviews Section / Ye Ole Vehicle Reviews
« on: February 21, 2007, 11:51:01 PM »
Well, not sure if any of here ever looked at my old - and now defunct - Cobra Emporium site, but people always seemed to enjoy the vehicle reviews I had on there (that or they were pandering to me, which is perfectly acceptable too ) so after a short and very unscientific poll I decided to put them back online. Only the reviews are up so if you can find your way to the front page (easy to do but there's no direct links that work) nothing you click on except for the vehicle review link will work. Just an FYI until I get some time to redo the index page there.

Anyway, if you're interest, check em out. They're pretty old by this point so some thoughts and opinions might have changed. Maybe. :D

And try to ignore the grammatical errors. I wrote a bunch without any sort of word processing software so some are rife with errors. I tried to fix them up as I caught them but a lot slipped through.

I'll re-add the images slowly over time. I'll probably have to rename/resize a few. There's currently 17+mb of images saved so will add them as I can.

Anyway, I'm rambling... you can find the reviews that are up here.

General Joe Talk / Action Force Stinger help needed
« on: February 14, 2007, 06:25:04 PM »
Hey all I'm looking for a site/ person that deals in Action Force that has some good images/ information.

The reason being I received a Stinger from the UK area and I need to identify it. Now, here's the thing, while it's definitely an Action Force Stinger, it has different wheels. You can see an Action Force Stinger on the box here in this thread. Now, while my Stinger looks almost exactly like that one, it has the wheels of the SAS MMS only without the inner hub being painted yellow (it's straight black). What I need to know is if this is the standard Action Force Stinger or if it's region specific and other AF Stingers have the U.S. Stinger wheel hubs. Since you can't just yank the wheels off the Jeep molds and swap them around it was manufactured that way so any help would be appreciated in identifying where this came from.

I can put up pics later, I want to clean it first, it's a little dirty.

« on: January 02, 2007, 09:39:29 PM »
Hey all, trying to wrap up the last of my wanted items and I'm looking for Brazilian figures. I'm after pretty much the entire run of them at the moment so if you have any extras please let me know.

I'm really trying to finish my collection so please help me out.

Also, STILL after a complete MSV set. Any help in getting one of those would be greatly appreciated.

General Joe Talk / JoeIndex - Update 10/07
« on: October 07, 2006, 06:33:07 PM »
Have a really big update today including some really nice International items (a bunch of Cobra Trooper and Officer figures from other countries) to look at along with the domestic figures and the various updated items. The Canadian MSV has all new images that are really sharp. Anyone have one of these they want to sell me? Pretty please! :)

And have to give a big thanks to Pete-the-Greek for his international contributions.

General Joe Talk / Bridge Layer variation
« on: September 24, 2006, 04:06:50 PM »
I was wrapping up a weekend update for the Joe Index and was doing the Bridge Layer and was wondering how prevalent the 'v' style lifting unit is. I know of only one other person that actually has one of these (besides me) and was wondering who else might have one. I can't recall ever actually seeing on outside of the one I own and the other one that belongs to the other collector. Who else has one of these pieces? It seems pretty rare, and, if you have one, do you know when you acquired it (if you bought your Bridge Layer personally at retail). I bought one of mine back in 85 and it has the 'H' style arms. I'm not sure when I acquired the 'v' style, but I know it was a second hand acquisition. Can anyone provide some more info on this piece?

Also, does anyone know if the Hydro Sled was ever in the cartoon?

General Joe Talk / Vehicles - toys or playable model kits?
« on: July 10, 2006, 11:17:02 PM »
I had a conversation with Mike T. a while back about the vehicles for the line and how they've always seems to be more like playable model kits than traditional toys. Until recent years, the vehicles almost always came like any model kits, with parts and pieces attached to sprues that you cut off and then you piece your vehicle together, apply whatever decals to them that you want, and/or apply finishing paint applications. They're really just very sturdy model kits, like the current playable Gundam model kits.

G.I. Joe's long been a line that advocates putting your personal touches on the items (there's something in a pamphlet telling kids to touch up their figures) and the vehicles are no exception. They have a ton of detail that's ripe for painting. Anyway, I digress...

So, thoughts?

General Joe Talk / JoeIndex - Update 7/06
« on: July 06, 2006, 06:45:16 PM »
The Renegades 3-pack has been added to the Index. If I'm in the mood to do it I'll add Sgt. Slaughter and the Ferrets in tonight but we'll see.

Anyway, the reason for this update post is to get some initial feedback on a part and acessory page for the site. There's a sample page up to look at (I really need to retake that Crankcase helmet picture) that will show the final layout of the ID pages. This one is set up for figure accessories (obviously) but the vehicle page will look similar. The 'Part ID:' section on the sidebar may or may not stay. I can see uses for it, but at the same time given how many parts were on trees a vast number won't have ID#s.

Anyway, take a look at the page and give me some feedback.

Also, is there anything else that you'd like to see as part of the Index? Something to help aid in identification or such?

General Joe Talk / JoeIndex - Update 7/04
« on: July 04, 2006, 09:39:32 PM »
The Anti-Venom set and comic pack #44 have been added to the Index along with some assorted news and notes. I have to say, messing around with the Anti-Venom figures recently has given me a new appreciation for them. I still disregard the "Anti-Venom" portion since the VvV concepts are a bit too sci-fi for my tastes, but the figures are pretty well done (sans Duke) and are quite fun. Some nice military colors with good and appropriate weaponry in most cases. This set makes things like the HAS and the "Greenshirt" 6-packs even more of a travesty. If not for the odd VvV tie in this set could be right up there with Python Patrol in terms of paint scheme and accessory compliments. Anyway, check em out.

General Joe Talk / JoeIndex - Update 6/27
« on: June 27, 2006, 09:52:21 PM »
Hey all, have a new update posted which you can read up on by checking out the main page. That's nothing new, but I tried something a little different with one of the action shots on each new Wet-Suit page. I wanted to get some feedback to see if it's something that people liked. It's only do one shot per figure and only for rather... extreme environments like water or air. It's a bit of a pain to do them so they won't be common place by any means. I have to say, doing these small and simple pictures have given me a huge appreciation for what Tim Elf's done in his diostories. Mad props to you, Tim! Anyway, let me know what you think of the pics and if it's something you might like to see more of. There's one on both the 1992 and 1993 Wet-Suit pages.

Ok, things are starting to roll on the International portions. Check out the main page for more information on that area of the site as well as the domestic updates.

In the meantime, check out the very snazzy Brazilian Hidroelice De Emboscada (red Water Moccasin) for starters. If anyone has any more facts or information about this piece (especially the date stamp) let me know so I can update the information.

The proto/"midnight chinese" section will be coming online very shortly.

From 6/10 and before:
New updates are posted on the main page at the JoeIndex including Tiger Force Flint, the Crimson Guard Force 6 packs and a number of Cobra Commanders. I think this is easier than linking each new item in every update, but am wondering what style is preferred: individual links or just knowing that updates are in and you can hit the main page and see everything at once along with past updates. What do you say?

As always, any questions, comments or corrections, let me know.

General Joe Talk / JoeIndex - Update 5/28
« on: May 28, 2006, 08:26:21 PM »
Well, back from a trip and back to doing updates. Have a slight change this time around from the usual format. Instead of listing everything in the post, I've created an update area on the main page (The JoeIndex.com) that will contain any site notes, all site updates and any other relevant information that should go in there. I'll be wiping the updates on a weekly basis (each week with a new update will remove all update information from the last week) to keep the page from becoming a huge scrolling mess. Hopefully this will work out well. So anyway, check out the front page and see what's new. :)
