General Joe Talk / Big International Update
« on: September 04, 2007, 12:22:56 AM »
Thanks to JoeCanuck's very own Pete-The-Greek a big International update was posted to the Index today. Have to give mucho props to Pete for filling in some long standing international blanks. Until I really started talking non-U.S. figures with him I didn't even know Brazil had a Payload (Orbita). Anway, lots of cool figures from overseas added.

General Joe Talk / 2002 Snow Serpent Variation(?)
« on: August 23, 2007, 11:04:09 PM »
Nevermind, Ron Connor's got some info on this guy in his pre-prod area. http://www.treasuresntoys.com/webcamppreproduction.htm

I'm looking to get some numbers on this, but I found a variation to the 2002 Snow Serpent.

The variation is pretty stark... the more common Snow Serpent has white highlights over the top of brown paint. The variant snow serpent (the right one in the pictures) has brown highlights over the top of white paint. This is on the boot fur, the glove fur and the cloak. Additionally, the knee pads have the four "bumps" painted silver, the elbow pads are all silver, the buckles on the boots and glove straps are silver and the boots themselves have a white inlay with brown on the toe, heel and straps. I have two of the 'brown on white' snow serpents, anyone have any? Check out the pics...

General Joe Talk / Mudfighter/HISS II two pack info
« on: August 20, 2007, 09:59:46 PM »
I finally threw together the Mudfighter/Hiss II two pack page. Has anyone with the set been able to check on the filecards? I'd pull up the old thread but I believe it's buried on the old board. Anyway, the Dogfight filecard variant is on there as well as the known "mystery figures" that have been confirmed so far. Has anyone else found any new figures or can you identify any additional stores this item was sold in?

Was this set available anywhere in Canada?

Large chunks of the US haven't seen these figures yet. I've only looked if I've been in a store for something else (buying oil/dvds at Wal-mart or something) but they've yet to even show here.

So, I was messing with the B.A.T. v5 the other day in preparation for today's update for the Index and I found out that you can stick the arm and gun attachments from the B.A.T. v5 on the backpack which, I think, is an interesting nod to the first B.A.T. that started the "carry your crap on your back" idea for the B.A.T.'s. I haven't seen that noted anywhere, I even checked out Justin's 6-pack review, so is this an unknown feature?

Or does no one care?  :-)

General Joe Talk / Thoughts on Depth Charge?
« on: March 27, 2007, 06:12:44 PM »
I remarked about how Depth Charge was one of my preferred new sculpt figures. I think he's one of the better designed figures (the waist piece is a tad small though) and one of the more interesting characters. As far as I've been able to tell, he's the only UDT type that's not a SEAL first. I think the character flies too under the radar while guys like Barrel Roll (another favorite) or Cross Hair have gotten the proverbial limelight. I also like the orange suit repaint in a cartoon type of homage (though I doubt that's what Hasbro was thinking when they colored him).

When I think of the Depth Charge character I see a "young" UDT (young in terms of seasons with the G.I. Joe team, not years of life) that still has to prove himself to the old vets like Wet-Suit and Torpedo but also a guy that's so good at what he does he gets lots of solo missions and missions deep behind enemy lines while guys like the aforementioned SEALs do hit & run raids.

The arm constructions weird, not sure I like the elbows, but the swivel ankles are pretty cool, and the swivel wrists I can take or leave, but this is, all things considered, one of my top figure & character combinations to date. The colors are pretty spot on too. The Moray disguise is goofy, but so is most of that Spy Troops stuff.

Thoughts?

(I've also found it odd how many environmental type Joes really hate the environment they work in. I think only Deep Six, Dusty and Iceberg have a genuine love of their environments. Just an aside comment...)

General Joe Talk / Re: Do any of you like to army build
« on: March 15, 2007, 01:20:37 PM »
I don't think I've ever really army built in the traditional sense. I've only bought figures based on setting up support units or to man vehicles/playsets. Outside of those two collecting realms I haven't done much buying just to build a cobra army.

I can't really recall the last time I bought an army builder type of figure to be honest.

They were the same figures. One was Windmill. I forget who the other is.

Glad you guys like the reviews. I'd forgotten what I wrote for most of them, so I've been really enjoying rereading them when I can.

Yeah, I haven't uploaded the images yet. There's a lot to go through and some I might need to rename/change so I just haven't gotten that far. Have 17+mb of review related images so have to deal with them as I can.

Yeah, the black's a bit harsh on the eyes.

As for that Rat review, I can only laugh. I still get a kick out the Dino-Hunter Review. I need to re-write some of the older ones that I did when I used to post them on the Pit mailing list years ago. You can tell which ones they are because they're really short because they were sent via emails so didn't get too long winded.
