Title: Hidden Joe Gems - The Hidroelice de Emboscada
Post by: Pete The Greek on June 11, 2006, 05:07:19 PM
Since I took these pictures recently (yesterday) for the JoeIndex site, might as well share them here.   Something to spice up the board.

If you think outside the box nor are ignorant to the fact their are some really cool international pieces out there, I suggest in trying to obtain this this piece for your vehicle collection.  Yes, it's the same in terms of parts that the regular Water Mocassin uses, but the colour itself sets it apart from most international vehicles.  Unlike most international vehicles where the colour is just a shade darker, this vehicle makes a cool complement to the Hydrofoil/Moray.   This is the main reason why I wanted to get one.

Quality: In terms of plastic, it's very comparable to American version of the Water Mocassin.  Doesn't feel cheap at all.

Availability: The vehicle isn't rare and not a common piece either.  It's some where in the middle.  But I wouldn't put in the cheap category either.  If anybody wants to get one, I will let my contact know in Brazil.

And WTF is a Bat doing in this boat with Crystal Ball?

I'm surprised they never made one to match the python patrol as there was a python copperhead.  Nice item thou.

Pete's contribution (one of many and many more to come) - the Hidroelice De Emboscada (http://http://www.thejoeindex.com/joeindex/international/brazil/vehicles/redmoccasin/). Any extra little factoids about this piece I can add?

Still need to get one of these. :(

I've finally seen one in person, and it suits Cobra better than the green one. Green just doesn't work as a cobra color. This one works a lot better.

However incomplete WM's run around $5 and krylon crimson (an almost dead on match) is another $7. I would likely go that route should I get one.

It's a great piece though - to buy or make.  Sometimes the foreign stuff just completely outclasses the domesic versions.

The vehicle first appeared in the Commandos em Acao 1990 catelog.  So it would have been released then.  It has Estrella stamped on the bottom of the vehicle with the 1984 Hasbro info.   That is all I can come with for now.

Wow Pete. That's pretty cool.

And raptor, I'm surprised you didn't suggest just dipping one in a batch of rit dype.  :shifty:

Very nice piece.  If only I hadn't just come to terms with the fact that my current space really doesn't lend itself to my owning many vehicles I'd be all over one of those.

I suppose that it would be impolitic to mention that it fits perfectly on an ikea glassed in shelf with enough room for a full load of figures AND some dio elements to give it life.

You could pretty much display a full original python patrol or the full group of the new one on it...

aw crap. Now I want to make one...

Mor - the green won't dye to crimson, it'd come out black. Plus, for obvious reasons, boats are hard to submerge in water. The krylon fusion paint bonds with plastic, so it's perfect for this sort of thing. It's the base that python viper uses for his PP vehicle customs.

Now this has me thinking with the talk of dye and vehicles....wouldn't Joecanuck or Black Ice need a vehicle down the line?   Could we get like 20 vehicles with a crappy paint job to begin with and redo them?

I was just thinking about that myself yesterday. If I ever get around to learning how to cast my own parts I was wondering about something like the Radid Fire Motorcycle done in a steel grey of something like that.

Hmm. How about getting Loop to sculpt a rocket pack and rocket boots - casted material takes dye really well.

I say, "okay!"

How about a rocket-powered shovel for Joe Canuck? With the pole turning into a shotgun. It'll be the next craze on Ebay!

Pete that boat is a thing of beauty.  I don't want to ask how much this is worth or how much you paid so let me put it this way, how much is too much to pay for a crimson Moccasin?

As for a JC (North) vehicle exclusive it have to be something common and cheap.  It need to have few parts so you could get a lot of them complete.  And the customizing would have to be really simple like maybe just spray painting the shell and custom made stickers.  Off the top of my head, maybe like a sharc or asp.

Well, I heard that in Canada, you can mail-order some Assault Quads (with Gung-Ho) and some FANG IIIs (with CLAWS Pilot) for 3.75$ Canadian a piece + GST + 4$ S/H.
That's pretty darn cheap. I have a form to order some, if you need it.

Not a fan of either of those vehicles though...

Actually, with the BTR vehicles at samco running about $2 that might even be doable.

I would say around in the 100 buck range is a deal for the boat.  But the bugger is getting harder to find in mint shape.   I paid twice as much as a thanks to my contact.  He has helped me out big time in sending payments off to other Brazilian sellers from mercadolivre.  Plus the boat barely has any play wear to it.

What's wrong with those vehicles? I don't own any of em so I dunno, but based on pictures they look nifty.

They don't stay together. I got the big one with Blowtorch and I couldn't even get it together before it fell apart.

SV, you have to supplement them with the "build it" bricks packs to keep them together. You can pick them up in multiple colors at $1 stores sometimes 3 for a buck.

I'm pretty sure that we could put together a custom vehicle  for a cost of about 5$ per unit bagged (that would stay together) which means that it could sell for as little as $8 - $10. Instructions would likely be a black and white sheet of paper...

Not sure that there would be any interest in this anyway. There would have to be preorders for it, because unsold units could make it a money loser.

Though I *am* really interested in the jetpack idea (or any other small one piece vehicle) and I think that loop could pull off the sculpting.

A vehicle is an interesting idea. (Sorry, coming late to the discussion).

It would have to be a small vehicle, and one that is easily found.

If the Polar Bear wasn't so tough to find, I'd vote that one in black (or DARK blue) for Black Ice.

As for Joe Canuck getting a vehicle.... well... if we could somehow dye a Fang Copter white - that would be sweet.... or a Ferret ;-)

Hmm.... I wonder how a Funskool Fang would take spray paint?

Mike

I like the white Ferret idea!

How about the repainted Polar Bear from 2002, the Rock Slide?  http://www.yojoe.com/vehicles/02/rockslide/ (http://www.yojoe.com/vehicles/02/rockslide/)  It was clearanced to $3 when new and comes with a t-crotch figure.  Surely a decent amount of them could be found on the cheap :)

A quick dip in black RIT and I think you'd have a winner

Yeah, and instead of the Ferret for JoeCanuck you could always use either the Lanard Corps quad or the JvC Assault Quad.
