Title: TankGirl/Scramble two pack, now with Diamond Ring accessory!
Post by: Scramble on July 05, 2006, 05:50:05 PM
Almost as soon as I got back home from New Orleans, I asked Tina to marry me. She had to make sure I was serious, because I have mentioned in the past that I didn?t see marriage as my thing. When I said that I was, she said that she would.

No immediate wedding plans are set. Two years from now would be ideal. Our lease will be up, I will have either completed my one year teaching degree in Ottawa or started the first year of a three (probably two and a few night courses thanks to shared credit) year teaching degree in Quebec. Since I?m allowed to teach as I study in Quebec, either way I will be working my career right after getting married.

If you?ve attended the a Joe Canuck Meet in the last two years, or the Montreal Meet last year, you?ve met Tina. If you haven?t, this girl was willing to drive to New York and back for a weekend of Joe shopping when we weren?t really even dating, drives to the Hamilton con the last two years and plans on doing it again, and was the stage manager of my latest production of In Jim?s Image, my original play. We met playing Dungeons and Dragons. And right now, we sleep in the spare bedroom and use the master bedroom for my Joes and our games. It?s one thing to find a girl who tolerates your hobby, but to find one that actively participates in it, that?s not a girl to let go. So I didn?t.

And rest assured, invitations will be sent out.

About flippin time. It's either marry her or chain her to you. Tina is a catch.   :)

I'm so glad for the two of you. If ever 2 people were made for one another, it's you two.

Hey that's really great news.  It's rare finding someone you love that loves you back but finding someone that finds your interests interesting is truly special.

Congrats you two!

Heck, you made front page news!  (And from a guy that doesn't update the front page - that's major!)

Plus, this thread is now a sticky!

I met Denise at a Toy Show, so I know EXACTLY how you feel my friend. ;-)

Thanks for all the support, guys. Never thought I'd see my name on the front page. But c'mon, "FINALLY getting engaged"? There's a reason she's been coming to the Meets the last two years and not the year before that. We've only been dating for a couple of years. If anything, it's amazing how quickly we decided to get engaged. But like Charles said, we were made for each other.

Would you believe that, after our parents, you guys are the first to know?

That is awesome. Getting married is the best thing that can happen to a person but be prepared to one day having to take down your game room if you plan on kids.

Congrats Scrams & Tanky!!!!!!  Finding a good person to spend the rest of your life with is better than scoring the Starduster varient for $10.  just don't have the wedding on Meet day--your attendance is always a must.

Be well, be happy and go forth and multiply.

Thanks again for the support. What's particularly satisfying is being able to place faces to the people posting. It's why I let Joecanuck get the scoop.

We had a couple of questions that maybe the married members or the people that just know a lot about weddings can help with.

First of all, how many ushers is too many? I have three brothers, so if I include the lot of them, I'm already up to four with the Best Man.

On the topic of ushers, is it customary to include the spouses of ushers and bride's maids (ie a bride's maid is married, should her husband automatically be an usher)?

And just general suggestions about a good time of year for the wedding. August is the front runner right now for us, but I'd like to hear others take on it.

How many people do you plan on inviting?
Rule of thumb - one usher for every 20 people.
Denise and I had about 90 people at our wedding, and I had a best man and two ushers....

Nooooooo! With my wedding, by best man (Brian) was married - his wife sat with the guests.

Denises two bridesmaids were her sisters - and their husbands were with the guests as well.

Mine was in May - nice weather - no rain.
I've been to a wedding in Aug. HOT, Sticky, and people sweat alot.
I'd say a late Sept. or Early may would work best. (But that's just me!)

Also, 1 word of advice, do NOT include children in your wedding party unless OVER the age of 10-12.

My nephew was our ring bearer - and while he did look cute and all doing it - he horsed around for most of the actual wedding. He was 4.... so that was our fault.

Go to a tropical Island if you don't want a traditional wedding.  We did-Jamaica everything was taken care of for us..  Just invite who you would normally want at a hometown wedding and whoever shows up is in the wedding. Then have a reception after you get back for those who couldn't join you and have your brothers and best friends say a little speech.
Otherwise don't limit yourself to a small wedding party because someone will feel left out or slighted.
I've seen parties as large as 14-7 on each side and parties as small as two.  But ultimately it is what you guys are most comfortable with.
Best time to get married-Mid to late Spring.
Also, try to set boundaries on who will actually plan the wedding-everyone and their neighbour want to give their two cents and control.
All the best and just keep in mind it's suppose to be a happy day not a stressful one-your union and the celebration of is the most important thing to plan the day around not whether aunt Bertha won't sit with Uncle Gus....etc

At my sister's wedding it was family only in the wedding party.

Nobody will feel slighted if you stick to that.

Hey, if you decide to have a son, and he accidentally sets the living room carpet on fire, go easy on him.
