Title: Comic 3 packs
Post by: Pete The Greek on May 30, 2004, 07:25:55 PM
Incase some of you were under a rock

C.C. Baroness, Cobra Soldier (http://http://www.joecustoms.com/board/files/comicpak-1.jpg)

Snake Eyes, Kwinn, Scarlett (http://http://www.joecustoms.com/board/files/comicpak-2.jpg)

Clutch, Stalker, Hawk (http://http://www.joecustoms.com/board/files/comicpak-3_708.jpg)

Man these 3 packs rock. If these packs sell, I wonder which guys they will release next.  The only guys I want are the October Guard. Then I can customize a Team Canada against them in a hockey dio. :D

Thank you Pete! I've heard everyone talking about these but have been unable to find these picks.

There's a great mix here. That will be the definitive Stalker in my books, and having a Hawk that's faithful to his comic look is awesome. My issue is with the sizes of the Scarlett and the Baroness heads. One's too small, the other's too big.

Still, I'll be grabbing at least three of each pack.

You know, i've been pretty appalled with the new stuff that Hasbro has put out in the last few years but i've got to say, they have a winner on their hands here. I'm really taken by these sets (mostly because of the Kwinn figure) and i'll definately be tracking them down.

Pete, i'm with you...a comic version set of the Oktober Guard would be dy-no-mite!

Nobody knows so far. Mastercollector was suppose to have them in May.

I have heard 7 three packs will be made.  This should be interesting.

The headsculpts look great! That must be the best CC cloth mask head I've ever seen. Scarlett's head will be great for a custom, and so will Baroness as well.

I'm praying to the GI Joe gods that these end up in a Canadian retailer.  How about Zeller's gets off their ass and gets aggressive with Hasbro and get these.

Or will these be available to smaller retailers, like a certain Bounty Hunter?

Well a smaller line like that with very few package assortments might be picked up by alot of stores...if there is only three in the first wave I think Wal-Mart and the rest will get them...they must have seen them....if Wal-Mart orders the corps....then I am sure they will get the 3-packs...but o......now that I think about it the two packs flopped again....they were regular modular at Wal-Mart for some time...mine never replenished ever...they got one shipment and that was it....maybe that will have a negative influence...???

Ha....Consumers was junk...at least in Kamloops where I grew up...the best place bar none was K-mart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They always had an endcap full at the low low price of $3.97....and they always seemed to have the newest guys first...always!!!!

And here is something someone might find interesting...on April 11th every year two things happened...my birthday...and the new Joes at K-mart...and I am not kidding...for about 4 years in a row right after my birthday party I would ask my mom to take me to K-mart to spend any and all the money I got on Joes...and while I was really into collecting I lucked out with the Joe display beig full of the new guys....all coool....alll luck!!!!!!!!!!!

Now that the con is in full swing - is there any word if Canada will get these?  This would be the first new Joe item, that I would purchase to have one in package to display and one to open - plus another to customize.

Mike - have you seen them on an order list at all?

Damn I want these!

Well I took the comic six pack figures that Justin Bell took and added them here. Very nice.  But why two Stalkers?  Anyways, Hasbro stated they will make more if these packs do well.  I think they will as they come with a comic book :D

Zap, Grunt (undercover), Snake Eyes (http://http://www.joesightings.com/con04/pics/con-night2/conpics-30.jpg)

General Flagg, Steeler (http://http://www.joesightings.com/con04/pics/con-night2/conpics-28.jpg)

COBRA Officer (that comes with Steeler and Flagg) (http://http://www.joesightings.com/con04/pics/con-night2/conpics-29.jpg)

Horror Show, Stormavich, Stalker (http://http://www.joesightings.com/con04/pics/con-night2/conpics-25.jpg)

Rock n Roll, Short Fuze, Flash (http://http://www.joesightings.com/con04/pics/con-night2/conpics-27.jpg)

Do you really think we'll get those 3 packs here in Canada? I don't know about the other parts of Canada but I think there's a law here in Quebec (Not sure if it's federal or provincial) that prohibide selling/distributing toys/videogames/whatever if they're not in a bilingual package? So we should be lucky that we actually have the VvV line over here and they took the time to translate the package... anyone else noticed that we have the SAME card back since VvV 1? Just bought a Jinx/Slice and the backer card is again the wave 1 backer (promoting the VvV wave 1 figures...).

Sure they could do another generic backer card that they would use for the 9 announced packs (and any following...) but I wonder what's the situation with a comic inside... we don't get the VvV comics the americans get in their VvV packs... would kind of suck to get a "comic pack" where they had to actually remove the comic... Does Heritage still exists? lol

I think the fact of the bilingual packaging law is the primary reason we see very little other than the main line here.

It just isn't financially feasible for them to do bilingual packaging on everything just for us.

They do it for the main line - only because TRU and WalMart want to carry them

It's also why we never see the exclusives up here.

So, in short, what I am getting at is:

If you want the comic packs, buy them online or prepare for a road trip, because you won't be seeing them here.

I finally decided to buy them on eBay today from a shop who seem to deal a lot in MOC figures on eBay (over 7000 refs) and said in the description that they were MOC on C9+ card... well... C9+ is a damn high grade for a package so I figure that he probably opens himself a lot of cases and they're uncirculated (multiple packs for sale, including over 20 VvV Snake-Eyes/Stormshadow that I picked one up at the same time...) and that it was worth the 7 extra bucks he was asking for it.

I Got 2 Snake/Scarlett/Kwinn 3 packs, and the American VvV Snake-Eyes/SS pack... with a pretty decent shipping/handling fee of $11 to Canada (most eBay sellers would charge easily over $20 to ship and "handle" this kind of package over here...).

This thing (comic 3 pack) is really a great idea from Hasbro who just got back the rights to all the Marvel comics line. I'll definitely grab them all if they hit our Canadian regular market.

I got sets #1-3 from smalljoes. The figures are not bad (1000 x better than JVC style figures I have seen lately) but the tight 0-rings make the guys stand funny.  I am trying to loosen the o-rings right now. Clutch's body is horrible (Mace's body).  The figure looks like his has a hump. Other wise, can't really complain about them.

Oh, Beav from Joecustoms posted this for the Oktober Guard 3 pack

Well, GI JOE HQ has the following posted for preorder in terms of wave 9-11 for the comic 3 packs

Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow & Red Ninja
Duke, Roadblock & Gung Ho
Serpentor, Scrap Iron & Firefly

Looks like they scraped the Breaker, CC and Scarlett pack.  :x

I'm pretty sure the figures in that set were hand painted originals. If Hasbro really had the v2 Snake Eyes this long, I'm sure they would have released it. They're released every other mold of his except for Ninja Force (which is for the best). Afterall, look at the Alley Viper, and the Viper's legs.

These sets do have some promise. Serpentor in his dockers and bare chest would be a cool lift from the comics, as well as a Firefly similar to v1. But losing the Breaker set sucks hard.

I am sure they were hand painted.  But 6 of the 8 have been released.  There is small hope of them redoing a new mold for Snake Eyes.  The V1 one is getting over used.

It's funny how my expectations for this set are almost the opposite of what we're getting here.

I was most looking forward to a bare chested Sperpentor with removable cowl. The figure we're getting is a complete throw-away to me.

But the Firefly in that set, with menacing new head sculpt and v1 colours, is awesome. Who knew they could release the tenth someodd incarnation of that Firefly mold and it catch the eye better than any previous incarnation since the first?

I'm also big into that Scrap Iron. The Urban set Scrappy had some odd colour choices, like a black shirt with a blue collar. This one works for me, and can finally replace my broken-handed v1.

Storm Shadow is also superb. I don't get it, it looks like a straight repaint but the mold has detail showing like never before. Snake Eyes doesn't win me over, though. If you're going for a new head sculpt, why not base it on a later issue and give him the v2-esq visor? But I suppose you couldn't skip over issue 21.

The last pack even appeals to me. There's no way I'm using that Roadblock over v4, but I appreciate the head. Duke's definitely useful for a headswap if I manage a spare v1. Destro's the only one I'm not sure about. The studded collar is wicked, but otherwise it looks like a steel-coloured head, not a metal mask. And he looks upset.

These Comic 3-packs are still the best figures Hasbro's put out since the line ended, for someone who doesn't like the JvCs. It's good to know the line's been successful.

About 3 years ago I would've been more into this pack. As it is, I'd like to see new sculpt JvC style versions of these guys. There's something I really like about figs who won't lose their thumbs if you try to arm them and won't lose their crotch if you try to pose them and won't turn yellow if you store them in your drawer.

I'm hoping for a new sculpt Steeler and a true new sculpt Clutch.

Thanks to Realboss I have comic packs 6, 7 & 8.  These are pretty amazing and really show what the packs are all about (characters never before released, great headsculpts, specific-issue uniforms etc).

One thing I am interested in knowing: are Short-Fuze's legs a new mold?  at least the lower part anyway.  I compared him to my 97 SF and the lower legs on the new one are longer.  Also, the waistpiece...I know it is apparantly the OG one from 82 but...I remember them being even more bulky.  Like ugly, out-of-place bulky.  I wonder if Hasbro actually resculpted the lower half of SF's body to emulate the 82/83 look?  The left leg's thigh pouch is slightly different as well, with a bit more detail.  Even the bootsoles are different.  Hell, even the upper arms might be new...I don't recall any of the 83 retro-fits having the arm pouches on the side.  Unless I'm way off here, I think Hasbro was shooting for a strict '82 look (but with swivel arms :).

Yes, I went to NYC to visit my sister and made a stop (or 3) at TRU. It's an incredible store. It's three stories tall and has a Ferris Wheel. The toy racks are so high that you need a ladder to reach the top shelf. With the strong dollar, the prices are super-low. They had over 20 ninja packs (and my sister says they had about 30 Infantry packs while they were available)
